Let thy be killed by my blade

While it's a great achievment to do this I would have to kill mysekf because you get nothing from it.

Knowing you've done something most others cannot do? I think that's an achievement in itself, worth more than a few gamerscore which add up to nothing, or a set of armour which many more people have than people who've completed mythic. It's not the finishing it that's the point though, it's a surprisingly fun challenge.

For The Covenant, I just rush up, kill the Grunt that's trying to get the Ghost, I then laser the Shade, take the Ghost, rush down, take the Power Drainer, go up the lift, throw the Power Drainer at the Brutes, headshot them all, assassinate the Chieftain, go down the lift, kill everyone with the Laser, then go down for full Carbines and a fresh PP that's waiting just outside. This is how I use the laser, much easier for me, and if I manage to kill both Brutes that are waiting for me in one Laser shot, the Grunts can even make my job easier by going kamikaze fail-fest.

Wow, that actually sounds easier and better, power drain part especially. the only problem I'll have is entry to the tower, but I'm sure I'll find myself a method.

The problem with this method is you aren't taking the Beam Rifle with you, so if your Power Drain doesn't effect all four Brutes (or at least both Captains), then you've just made things more difficult for yourself and also decreased your chances of snagging that Invincibility.

Are the plasma pistols too hard to hit, or just too risky on brute shot brutes then? I did have the problem on Sierra... I may just use that way but take the beam rifle anyway instead of the laser. Last time I was lucky enough to have everything at the door blow up in one bi explosion straight away, but i know that's a rare occurrence. I'll just experiment and find what suits me better.

Wow, I was comparing my recent Covenant runs with Pahat, and they are roughly the same. Now I just need to work on the Warthog kamikaze to the Hornets and the fast method of taking down the Scarabs and I may be able to match his time.

For that section it can be. Keep in mind that a lot of that scenary can be glitched, just like in Tower 3 with meleeing Brutes through the glass. Splash damage can actually kill you through walls here, but if you use the Beam Rifle, they won't even shoot at you.

Well, that part is up to you and your skill, I don't think hitting everyone with the Power Drainer is all luck.

Thanks : )
I normally have the third tower cleared in under 10 minutes. I need to be at the citadel by around 15. So I have 5 minutes to get outside the tower, get to the Scarabs, down the Scarabs and enter the citadel in 5 minutes.

I agree 100% with both Jimmatt and Shadow. Success is actually not as good as you'd expect it to feel because you know that your journey is over and you knwo you're not working towards anything special anymore.
On the other hand now that the number of Mythic conquerors is much, much less than the number of Recon wearers I say it's still something to be proud of; we do have the stats to prove it after all should anyone ask.

Also to Fatal Liquid; Determination = Success. And that concludes today's maths lesson. ;-)

Thing is though, even if you complete it, the journey never ends. Look at us completers who are still here.

The original journey ends though, and that's the really "special" one because you know that it's what you invested time, effort and patience into. Now Mythic comes almost as second nature; it's not a struggle anymore. An example would be the 30+ attempts it took for my first Cortana run. Last night I did it in one for practice.
Mainly the struggle is gone and that's what makes it special.

Just out of curiosity, what's the deal with Flood wielding Hammers? Are they like the Sword Elites in the same respect that they can kill you in one hit, even if you're at full shields? There are only two in the game that I know of, and one doesn't always spawn, so I've never really found out...

My first Cortana run took me at least 250+ tries. I was determined to rush through it everytime, with no luck. The first try I went slow I got it. That was the first time round.
The second time visiting the mission, I done it first time.

I think, don't hold me to this. But they have 2 attacks. A normal melee attack which wont kill you if you have full shields. And they hit you with a hammer, which kills you instantly regardless of anything.

When I started my quest, I had Pahat and Staroceans videos and Tyrants advice. That was good enough as a guide for me. I ended up combining Pahat and Staroceans methods and altering them slightly for my own good. Then I took Tyrants advice into account to see if I could adjust my methods to make an easier way of beating the mission.

Videos of previous conquerors and a little friendly advice are really all you need though. The Walkthrough is great, but it can be disappointing if it doesn't always work whereas with advice and more proof of success you can sort of build your own little style for things with more of a tolerance for error. TBH I wish I had Halo 3 and an Xbox from the release date, then maybe I'd have found B.net earlier and been in on this from the very beginning. On the other hand, at least that's guaranteed for ODST. I'm hoping to be one of the "pre-walkthrough" conquerors for ODST. :-)

From what I can see, I'm about to get a fourth RROD. Screen keeps freezing. Of all the days, I mean, of all the days or weeks this could happen to me. I'm jumping soon man, I'm jumping soon.

Did anyone else didn't knew you CAN NOT one hit an unshielded brute with your energy sword? I thought it was an instant kill so I tried to kill THE LAST BRUTE ALIVE in the citadel with it, apparantly he thought otherwise and gave me a headbutt which threw my now lifeless body over the edge :'(

You mean you'd prefer that people didn't have a walkthrough? I can see both sides of that particular argument so I won't go into it much apart from:
No guide makes people do it themselves.
A guide would be helpful to the community at large if they weren't sure where to start.

And why wouldn't Tyrant finish ODST on Mythic? I'm sure he wants some new scenery after 2 years of Halo 3.

Only the Arbiter has a licence to slice and dice Brutes. It's his area of expertise so don't even try butting in. :-P
In seriousness, yeah; Brutes are made of adamantium or something on Mythic, melee weapons aren't a good idea when an assassination would suffice.

  • 07.15.2009 2:11 PM PDT

Halo 3:ODST will come as a relief to me. I don't think I've ever wanted a new game more. Mythic campaign is the only thing worth doing on halo atm, and none of my other games are at all appealing right now.

Thought I'd download some of pahat's video's to see if I can find any inspiration for my sierra attempts soon, and all I could think was wow. Pahat finishes the whole campaign on SLASO before I can even finish The Covenant time-wise. :-/
