Finished Floodgate, so now my quest for Mythic begins.

Good luck to everyone doing the Summer Recon Challenge. I think I will next attempt Halo and then work my way up to the harder missions.

See you at the finish line!

Just worked out my schedule and I'll still be in the country for the first 3 days of next week's Sierra 117 challenge. So, of course I'll be giving it a go and hopefully submitting an entry. :-)
And then when I get back although I'll have missed the last two i think I'll do them again just to make up for lost time. :-P

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

Where are you going to?

Oh and it took me 42mins to kill the hunters on the covenant and it took me like 20 mins to defeat 2 scarabs. LOL

42 minutes; you have much more patience than I do. Was it at all possible to avoid them? I can imagine that the scarabs would take a while though. I am dreading trying the covenant, as I don't know if I could bare getting near the end and then dieing.

If I feel confident enough then I might have a go at the last Mythic Recon Challenge, at least once I have a few more missions under my belt.

I'm guessing that my entry for The Covenant was disqualified for being named wrong. :| Only just realised it was named wrong, after submitting it earlier this week. I couldn't see anything about naming conventions mentioned here, so I made the stupid assumption that adding 'Mythic Difficulty' to the description would suffice.

Ah well, I guess I may have a go at Cortana some time.

From my experience, the hardest part of The Covenant was near the beginning. As long as you take the rest of the level slowly, then you should, for the most part, be fine. I failed once about an hour into it, but my next 'long' attempt was a success. But I would suggest doing a non-iron-skull run-through first. :)

Well it was me an elite with a fuel rod, arby and 2 hunters and lots of drones i had no choice it was hectic if i went in to take out the hunters melee i would have died. I also had no weapons and the scarabs were easy the 1st one turnt its back to me and i boarded the second easy.

Ohh and congrats on doing floodgate you beat my shameful first time of 30mins.

Thanks Muzza. On one run through of Floodgate I reached the shadow of intent chapter and the Arbiter simply vanished. That made the second section much harder. My aim throughout though was to rush through the first few areas and only slow down when it came to dealing with them in enclosed spaces. I would never have known it was possible to run through the last open area (prior to the crashed ship,) without taking any damage.

I just need to look at the guide for completing Halo now.

  • 07.17.2009 6:44 AM PDT

Tryed Cortana earlier without iron and got 3 deaths. Though admittedly the first one was deliberate, because I had a feeling that I was gona complete it without iron on, and if I had I'd be so P'd off. The other 2 were also easily avoidable, munched on by an infection form (lol) and got caught by an elite form in the reactor room. So I'd say I'll finish it very soon.

It is actually alot easier than you first think, so long as you know the route around the place.

Mythic Conqueror 13 has changed his name from "towelie54" to "Penatonic". Just saying so Tyrant can update his name on the OP incase people search for "towelie54" and find nobody.

Im off to go do Cortana.

As long as it's fast enough to be done under a week.

Avid gamer since 'Pong' (yeah - I'm that old).

Halo Campaigner since the early days of Halo: CE

It's how you play the game that counts most.

*sigh*

I failed at completing the Covenant on time. It wasn't do to a lack of practice and time. I had plan B ready when plan A didn't work - and option C when B went bad. My last run last night was going beautifully for a change. No Prowlers stuck in the entrance of Tower 1, no weapons eaten by the Elevator Floor Monster, Arby didn't stay dead at the Hunters (run past the Hunters to the next room - then return toward the entrance - Arby comes back to life). The Brutes were easy work in both Towers. I was able to get a Laser and Fuel Rod Cannon for my Hornet and Tank Passengers (still had one charge left on the Laser after Tower 3). I couldn't take out one Scarab because it wouldn't turn for me - but after clearing most of the critters off of the first one - I decided to fly the Hornet onto it (I didn't save the second Hornet - I know how to work around that) regardless of the number of enemies still left (time was running out). Landed beautifully narrowly avoiding getting shot by a couple of Brutes. Jumped down and took down the shield and core - carefully jumping off of the Scarab and avoiding getting run over by the Warthog (my ticket to landing on the second Scarab).

Sounds all to familiar - doesn't it!

So I grab the Gauss Hog - and head back to the cliffs - watching out for enemy ground vehicles. Sure enough - one approaches - and I use my tried and true tactic of sliding and jumping out - putting the vehicle between me and the oncoming fire of the enemy vehicle confident my passengers can take care of the situation.

The enemy vehicle slams into the Jeep - which slams into me - and kills me.

FML!!!!

I look at the clock - and only a half an hour left until the deadline.

I will complete this today. I know so many ways now around some sticky situations - and may try a few more during a practice run with Iron off (I just like doing Campaign). Hunters alone are now easy for me - I can melee them in a similar fashion as I do the shielded Elites - work your way around to the right side of the Hunter - bash-back-rotate toward the back.

Rinse and Repeat.

Getting the Drones out of the Elevator area? Go to the front of the Tower and go up and get the Auto Turret. Deploy in Elevator area - but not too far forward if you want a Drone stuck in the rafters to bash your way back to health.

Ah well - I'm more into this for SLASO than I am for Recon.

Congrats to those who did finish the Covenant on time! I'll see you after Cortana!

I'm still worried as hell about the Ark. I doubt i will complete it in time.

Halo 3 (31st), ODST (14th) and Reach (4th) Mythic Conqueror. (Mythic is Solo, Legendary, All skulls on + scoring on and no deaths/saves).

Staff Writer and speedrun record holder at highspeedhalo.net

Ignorance is the true enemy of all things.

Rocking Bungie.net for over 8 years!

Cortana done! First time finishing it so I wasn't expecting a great time. But its not too bad I don't think.

That makes... 4 so far? Who is next?

Apart from the randomness like Tyrant mentioned in this weeks post, I thought it was relatively simple mission. Plenty of ammo, plenty of equipment and just a bit of luck gets you through. I stuck to the 2.0 guide mostly but in the "Hive" room, I used a different, rushing method. Namely: Goatrope's

Instead of sticking around killing enemies, I jumped straight onto that panel, onto the second tier and around to the room with the two camo equipment. Following the 2.0 guide, this means you have 3 at your disposal here. Then, I would run out that room towards the ramp and jump onto the level above (using a sword lunge at an enemy if I thought I might fall), waiting until I was on there and running before activating the camo (so I'd have a clear run of camo right to the exit). Hop over any combat forms that need be, round the little spiral ramp, then across the ledges (not the cave at the side) at the top of the room straight to the exit. Now, with so many camos available here, even if you fail the jump or get knocked off further up (like I did! DAMMIT!) you still have plenty more to go back and try again. At least for me, that little cave and the running back up the ramp to it all seemed relatively safe. Once I'd got the technique down, I no longer failed in that area.

So, moving on to Sierra 117 now! I had a non-iron practice run that only had like, 3 deaths in it. Then straight after that I was able to get right to the damn in a proper all skull run. Before foolishly dying to a plasma grenade that was thrown up to the ledge. After I'd taken out all the jackals as well! :(

There is a lot of fighting in most Sierra routes, and that makes the level long, and there are Jackal snipers, which are a real pain in the ass as always, but I'm not really seeing why its considered 3rd hardest. The Covenant was more complex and up close than Sierra is. Sierra mostly seems to be mid-long range with a relatively low occurance of 'being in the line of fire. I excell at mid-long range. Which, I guess, is why I'm finding the level OK at the minute.

I'll see if I can complete it tomorrow and then move swiftly onto Crows Nest. Cus I know I'm gonna need loads of time to practice for The Ark.

Hi

Finished Cortana, though 4 minutes slower than my first time. At least it's finished. I've also beaten Sierra 117 and Crow's Nest by now... am I alone in saying I prefer Crow's Nest over Sierra 117? I can't stand the snipers...

Just the Ark left for me to complete. That's going to need some practicing.

Sierra is easy, until you reach the downed Pelican area and the dam. Those are the places where all hell can break lose, particularly if Arbiter decides to take a dirt nap.

  • 07.17.2009 4:06 PM PDT

I will probably start Cortana tomorrow. This is the only thing that is keeping my interest right now in Halo 3. SLASO is so much fun. Probably will take a break from halo tonight and play something else to calm down from The Covenant. I do not know why, but I just do not like playing SLASO w/o the iron skull on. I just do not care about playing the level carefully when I know I won't have to restart the level. With the skull on though, I play more carefully. Does anyone else play like this? I think I will try Sierra 117, Crows Nest, and The Ark w/o iron on though.

I'm too tired to complete Cortana tonight, I did a test run to see how far I'd go, died right at the end from a Tank form, I sliced his ass two times and nothing happened. I'll do it tomorrow, I'm always very bad when it's night time.

Dang...got all the way past the sniper forest on Sierra before dieing. Stupid Snipers hide in the hardest places. I thought they were all down but one remained. I think I;m just gonna go straight to Crows Nest, as Sierra is just a matter of killing snipers, which I seem to be pretty good at. Unless the damn is 3 times harder than the snipers, I should be fine.

The dam is more like 5x harder than sniper forest. At least in the forest you can take weapons by force. You can't do this while on the ledge at the dam.
Otherwise it's not so bad until the endless grenade spam gets on your nerves and you begin to run low on ammo reserves.
