Is Cors Nest after Sierra 117? If so then I might have a try at doing that one. If not then I can always wait until the dreaded Ark!

More information regarding Mythic difficulty can be found at this thread

Nice. I just got done with beating Sierra 117, that makes 7/9 complete.

Posted by: Gazas
It's not on the Blog Tyrant, should I just name it Mythic Sierra and send it to you as SMRC: Sierra 117?

Yeah? What do we name it? It's probably Mythic Sierra, but confirmation would be nice.

Yeah Crow's Nest is after Sierra. We are down to the last 3 remaining missions.

Other news, died at the dam today. -_-

I died just before the dam. There was one Brute left without armour and I had no shields so i needed to melee him. So I jmped forward and deployed my Buuble Shield to deflect his fire, but the damn thing didn't activate in time as it is wont to do so I took a grenade to the face.
Ah well, it was only half an hour's work and I'll probably do it tomorrow.

yeah but when?

If you got nothing by Tuesday, assume you've lost. Actually, just assume you lost anyway.

Seirra 117 is starting to annoy me. Still haven't done it. A grenade here, a brute shot there. The deaths keep on adding up and I keep failing to get to the end. My practice runs (without iron) go smooth but all my real runs keep handing me crazy annoying failures. I even died to a Carbine Jackal today. I haven't died to any jackals on Sierra 117 since the first day I started practising it!

One thing I will mention though; I don't like either the 1.0 or 2.0 guide method for conquering the dam at the end. With the 1.0 I feel trapped on that tiny ledge with no good firing angles on your main threats (the enemies right below you). Constantly grenade spammed or shot at. While 2.0 brings me too close to the enemy for my liking in a mission where for the entirety of it, we've been playing strictly from a distance. Plus going under the dam wall leave you open for two angles of attack. I don't like that.

One method I had a little mess around with in a practice run and had surprising success with, was rushing to the top of the 3 storey tower on the nearside of the damn (protip: pressing the jump button while on a ladder will make you climb it faster). Then just melee out a little square of glass at a time to get a shot on the snipers. Then BR / snipe / range shoot your way to the other end of the damn while the Arbiter cleans up a bunch of the enemies for you. Safe from harm: more my style :)

Then, after rescuing Johnson, high-tail it back up the stairs to the dam and jump onto the ledge where one of the jackal snipers were. Then, smash your way through the glass (it may take a bit of 'wiggling' with the crouch button to get through) and drop down onto the ledge there. From here, you are completely safe from damage. If you feel like, you can even jump back up to the windows and take a few shots at the enemies coming across the dam. I do. Arbiter, Johnson and the marines should be able to clean up enough enemies for the pelican to come anyway.

If you need guys need a visual I'll be sure to include this in my run once I eventually do it. Unless I find a way that works for me better along the way, of course.

Interesting thing about the tall building there. I'm assuming you killed the Jackal Marksman on top of the low part of the building? I'll probably have a go tomorrow.

As for the escape route, I've practiced the 2.0 method at least 10 times and it's never failed me at all. The 2.0 approach method, however, left me dead on the floor. :-P

Since Sierr was never officially blogged, can we still submit? Cause I completed it and I don't want to submit if it is invalid.

Good luck and happy hunting.

========================

Congrats to those who have completed Mythic and those still slogging away. I finally beat Covenant after nearly 3 weeks of trying. Random events and sloppy play held me back. 4 times I made it into the Citadel before I finally beat it - hidden Grunts with the Fuel Rod Cannons. I've never had so many strange things happen like what happened in Covenant. I wish I would have taken a Screen Cap of the Banshee stuck in the back of the Pelican.

So now I must decide - do I continue next with Cortana or move on to Sierra? While winning Recon before it comes out is attractive - I think I'll do Cortana next. I've had enough of the Covenant for a bit. I've done Cortana now a couple of times with Iron off - and actually think it will be easier than Covenant.

5 down and 4 to go.

Good luck to all1

Blargh. Relatively fast run through Sierra, got through Sniper Forest easily and then after clearing 90% of the next area got stuck by a Grunt with the longest throw I've ever seen. From one side of the basin to the other while I was sniping so I didn't see it coming. The first I knew of it was the *beep* followed by the explosion. :-(
seriously though, I didn't even think that Grunts were aware of your presence at that sort of distance unless you were shooting them.

Hi

5 tries and Sierra 117 down.

Has anyone ever seen two Sgt Johnsons as you entered the pelican at the end? I've got a pic here. The one with the assault rifle didn't move. Maybe it has something to do with Sgt Johnson not making it across the bridge in the previous area.

It may be like the two arbiters. If you stopped the johnson from being taken away, then he would have stayed with you. That would mean when you save him, it would be two. I just want to send it in now. i guess I'll take my chance since I'm leaving for vacation.

I turned Johnson into the flood as well. I was also able to 'push' him almost to the warthog; although my XBOX crashed before I managed to reach it.

And related to Sierra 117, I hate snipers!

Fixed :)

And yeah I have noticed upwards of two or more Johnsons. And the thing about turning him into a flood combat form, I've done that to him several times.

My suggestion for Sniper Forest, always let Arby go first. He will allert you of all enemies in the area. Go for snipers first, then carbines. Only have one jackal in view at all times, no more.

Interesting thing about the tall building there. I'm assuming you killed the Jackal Marksman on top of the low part of the building?

In both times I've tried this now, I didn't actually have to. I haven't checked the film closely, but I'm assuming Arbiter took care of him. One more note on that route: each "piece" of the glass will absorb a direct sniper round before smashing. So, if you knock one out and take aim, you'll be able to sit there while the jackal shoots at you (for a couple of shots at least) with impunity.

I was about to finally execute my plan here in a proper run. Almost made it to the building, the doorway in fact.... when I got sniped in the head. Should have used the damn bubble shield to cover my approach!! But, at least I know now.

I knew about the glass being able to absorb sniper rounds, but using the upper level of the building as your main base of operations is pretty unusual. Not to say it can't work, obviously it does. I'd assume the main threats would be Brute Shots am I correct?

That would sound correct. I find the ledge works just fine though, all the enemies below fall with such ease, and the snipers are your only minor threat. Even they fall fast, making this my favorite spot. I even get an invincibilty if Arbiter fails to kill the hammer chieftain. =)
