The hardest part of Sierra imo was clearing the snipers around the dam area whilst hoping not to expose myself to the other snipers or any of the grunts down below. Other than that, I think the mission is quite straight-forward.

Btw, can the chieftain's invincibility be of any use in Crows Nest? It's just that I've watched Tyrant's and Matclan's videos and neither of them use it.

I think I use it. I think, I used it to assassinate the Plasma Cannon Chieftan.

Assuming you mean armor, me (not that you really know me, or even know of me for that matter).

Sierra 117 doesn't seem too bad, but I'm dreading Crow's Nest and the Ark. CN just seems like it has a lot of very difficult parts, while The Ark is extremely long, leaving little room for error. I could be wrong about that though. I actually still have to finish The Covenant, but getting out of the third tower is a bit tricky.

EDIT: Ermm, I am alowed to post about the first section of this post, right?

The Ark is shorter than Crow's Nest. It seems like it's long, but it's not. And most of the level is safe-travel, kind of like The Covenant.

Crow's Nest, though... now that's a tough one.

Beat Sierra on my 13th attempt! 7/9! I only managed to get to the dam on 2 of those 13, and died the first time through a highly unlikely set of circumstances involving a hiding Carbine Brute! It did however teach me to make a mental count of the enemy numbers and tick them off as I kill them. Then luckily on my successful attempt the Chieftain decided to throw himself off the dam in an attempt to kill the Arbiter, making my job easier no doubt!

This competition has really made me appreciate and enjoy the campaign again, and I'm determined to beat Mythic now! Time to practice the final two.

Gratz! Which method did you use? Or did you cook up your own?

Thank you! I mostly went on your 2.0 guide up until the dam, but found I had to improvise a little more then due to lack of ammo. My human sniper fell through the ground when I accidentally swapped it out for a plasma pistol, so I was forced to use the BR to take out the snipers around the dam - using most of my ammo. Then somehow all the carbine weapon crates on the dam itself managed to get knocked into the water behind so I only had the ammo left behind by the jackals on my side of the dam.

All good fun though, I've come to realise some crazy stuff goes down in campaign.

???

On average it takes me 40-50 minutes to do Crow's Nest. It takes me anywhere from an hour to 90 minutes to do The Ark. Did you play the same game I did???

Got 3 hours?

I'm getting to the dam at the end on Seirra 117 nearly every time now. But I get so nervous about failing again that I try and go the 1.0 guide route. But I keep getting killed by one of the snipers on the other side. I hardly ever seem to be able to get a Bubble Shield either. So i'm stuck with trying to pop out and shoot them, but they keep getting me.

Ah well. 2 days left. I think I may be getting to the end of my rapid-learning-of-ridiculously-hard-level streak though. Sierra 117 has bogged me down for nearly a week and a half now. Crows Nest in a week is looking doubtful, let alone The Ark

Those times aren't updated. Pahat has loads of new runs on his file share. Like S117 in 11:04 and Covenant in 20 something.

I know. HSH knows. His runs are already in the Queue. They just need to be recorded and posted about. They've been a bit slow the last few months, but ya know, they have lives :P

Plus, since they're all there in streaming format for you. It saves the trouble of d/l them to H3.

Okay. Back. Assuming that submissions after Friday are valid, Sierra is already out of the way. I didn't win for Cortana, but thats nothing new. Happy to see even more people reaching 7/9, maybe soon we will see 21st. =)

Awesome. Crow's Nest is down and out of the way, until Friday that is. Anyways, I completed it on my first try that I had Iron turned on. Can't believe I got it done so fast.
Stats

That makes (8/9) complete.
Only The Ark before I'm a conqueror.

Good luck Caruban. I wish I was having as much success as you. Random plasma grenades seem to be the bane of my life at the moment.

Remember if they miss, try walking forward, as grunts commonly overthow their nades. Also, whne you see blue, jump to the right or left. I never get hit anymore.

Thanks and Mole has a very good point about the 'nades. Grunts tend to lead their grenades in the way your moving. A simple dodge to the left or right does help. But definately backing up usually ends up with not so great results.

Also I've learned to always know where I'm at in relation with certain objects during battles. Several times I've tried to avoid a grenade and I walk into a box, tree, pillar, the Arbiter ( I will never forgive him for that), and boom , back at the beginning of the level.

For me, the catch skull makes mythic what it is. Keep trying and good luck. :)

Good luck to you Caruban, if you really tackle the ARk hard, you may conquer it in two days as I and green salsa did. Just keep trying. After the scarab, things get easier. Even after the frigate, things get a lot easier.
As for the Mythic comment, the skulls I feel define it are Mythic, Black Eye and Iron. The others add greatly to it, but these alone are hard enough.

  • 07.28.2009 11:10 PM PDT

-Laus Deo-

I find that blackeye, especially on the covenant missions, is what makes it so difficult. You have to be so conscious of taking as little damage as possible. And I am amazed by some of the record times that people are reporting for some of the missions. I would have to work hard to complete them that quickly on easy!
