Woohoo! Finally. 7/9 Done and submitted.

After all the pain, all the hardship, all the missed chances... ya know what way worked for me? Rushing. Running as fast as I could. Damned skipping everything I felt I could.

Skipped 3 of the fights. The first one, the second one (sleeping grunt and jackals) and the one at the river / mini dam. And then went ahead and did the rush to the tower at the dam and the hiding after rescuing johnson that I was talking about a few pages ago. Worked very nicely.

For the second fight skip, I played it fairly stealthily. After grabbing a full carbine, and assassinating the sleeping grunt to make sure I had full shields, I ran down the cave at the left, as you do, then ran straight for pipe section. Not attacking anyone until the grunts had already noticed me. Even then, only taking shots at the ones immediately in front of the pipe section in my way, just over / in the stream. Jump straight onto pipe, then onto the cliff (convenient slopey ledge just to the left of that tree btw). Then around the rock and headshot the jackal..... In the next area!

I've only tried this rush 4 times. And it worked for 2 of those. Only failed for bad execution on one (missed jump) and once for an unusual abundance of Jackals on that side. Obviously works best when the jackals are more on the opposite side.

At the dam, ran straight between the nearest two huts and into the river. Pop out and headshot the Sniper Jackals on your way, then onto the rock, jump to the buffer and over the railing. (much the same as the Legendary speedrun route except without the shield-draining grenade jump). If you execute swiftly enough you avoid the Phantom. Too slow, and you'll probably be cut down.

Then just standard fare for the sniper forest and downed pelican.

Almost had a big headache with the Hammer Chieftain when his Carbine buddy came with him to attack me as I was gathering PPs at the dam. A swift assassination, stealage of invincibility and a rifle butt to the face sorted that out :D

No problem hiding from the phantoms after rescuing johnson. And I even put a few rounds into grunt faces for good measure.

All that, in 33:14. For my first ever time completing it; not too shabby I think. :)

Film is here if anyone wants to see it.

*phew* glad thats over. Whats next? Crows Nest!? ....... ugh. given how long this has taken me, I may not complete that.

I hope so. I belive so. =P

Haha nice, well.. Ive read the rules posted over and over and im still not comfortable.
I just got on XBL on the 10th of this month and missed half the challenge, though Im
not new to SLASO runs, ive done a few offline for giggles.

I can participate in the last two events, but do not qualify for the 10th because of
my past offline situation? Or it must be done in sequence? The contest isnt my
motivation, I want to be a conqueror ..and I figured id start at Sierra anyway to
build skill and work my way through.

Sorry to be a pest.. Im already mad at myself as it is! =(

Ive had good success using tactics from both the 1.0 and 2.0 methods,
somehow 1.0 makes me feel safer.. but in all actuality it is the more dangerous
route in some cases.

As for the Invincibility on SLASO Crows Nest, I have a unique way of conquering
that nasty part in under 45seconds. I was going to film/send it to Tyrant, but doing
it in a full complete run would greatly magnify the accomplishment.

That and being a complete stranger doesnt help much!

Oh, and nice run RC, congrats on the great time too.

Utter frustration drove me to running. Otherwise I would have quite happily killed everything

This is true.

I figured id start at Sierra anyway to build skill and work my way through. I definitely found Sierra to be the toughest and most frustrating of all the ones I've tackled so far. If it frustrates you, pick an easier mission to start with.

Hammer Chieftain? Run up, assassinate, grab invincibility, activate it, run out, type thing? Or something really unique?

Oh, and nice run RC, congrats on the great time too.Thanks. I'm not sure if I want to ever try and improve it or not :/

I found Sierra to be the worst mission by far. My favorite mission was probably Crows Nest, and Sierra was just so frustrating. The Ark was overall pretty easy if you could clear the ghosts out. I would say the 3 most enjoyable levels (in no order) were.
-Crow's Nest
-The Covenant
- Tsavo Highway

I particularly loved Crow's nest because it was in your face, no way out. You versus endless waves of brutes. And spawn killing the fools just never got old. Over all it was a great mission. Same with The Covenant, all fell before Chief. Tsavo wasn't amazing, but it was a great mission. After killing the wraiths, it is just slaughter fest. I have to start redoing these missions and working on faster times.

It is long those lines, but it is very unique.. and pretty gosh darn reliable if you
know what to look for.. That is a big "IF" ..But yea RC, Sierra is no sweat.. Im
rather good at range shooting and out weaseling the H3 Jackals..

I know I cant qualify for the 10th raffle, but I wanted to see if I could sneak
in and start my Mythic Conqueror membership and still get in on the last
two contests. Am I cool to roll out on the remaining challenges then continue
my march to glorious salvation?

Going with the kamikaze strategy for the second fight seems like a hit-or-miss type thing. The first time I successfully got through, but I haven't done it again since. Does anyone know if assassinating the sleeping Grunt alerts other nearby enemies? He makes a noise when killed, and I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not.

  • 07.29.2009 7:58 PM PDT

-Laus Deo-

When I come to do Sierra I will most probably try and rush through it as fast as possible. In a straight out fight I probably wouldn't last very long.

The noise those grunts make when killed don't do any harm. It's just when one sees you, they often telepathically warn eachother and wake up.

I finally made it through Sierra 117. Took me over 1 and a half hour. Gun over Run.

You should definately skip the first battle. This will make it less of a burden to redo the mission up until the crashed pelican area. You save about 15 minutes.
Always leave a shield jackal alive to recharge your shields, 2d fight, 3d fight, pelican fight, dam.
I found the 1.0 stockpile method the best aproach to the dam. Collect Beam Rifles in the forest and take them to the alley before the cutscene ledge. Take out the Jackals in order: Right building, skull ledge across river, plasma grenade building below you, relocate to behind the rock on the right to kill the one on top of the low building across the river. I used the Sniper for these, switched to Beam Rifle for the Brutes after taking out the Grunts.

On a side note: Why are so many people so hyped about getting Recon? I hear about people's accounts getting stolen for this even. It's crazy what happens for digital stuff (= not real)
Sure you'll be happy you got Recon for a while but, in the end it's still just ingame content. Nothing you can take with you. And where do you show it? In multiplayer. Making me wish I was a Gunnery sergeant because I have so much trouble winning being a Colonel. And then you get laughed at, look at this guy, he's just a Colonel. And if you got Recon you better bet your life they are going to try and crack the code on your Xbox Live account.
I haven't got Recon but the multiplayer just isn't fun for me anymore, so what's the reason I would want Recon, none I just want to be a Conqueror and have a Halo Medal to show it.
Maybe it's because so few people complete the newly found Mythic difficulty that the highest emblem shown on your service tag is legendary. (Yes most probably)
The way I see it, Im sorry to say, is that the people who did Mythic aren't getting the respect they deserve just because Halo 3 doesn't show Mythic, it shows legendary... the skulls only to those who take the time to look in the fileshare closely. So, let's all ask for a new emblem!
I'd laugh out loud if the new vidmaster achievements would really unlock Recon and they would require you to do SLASO for it. That would be better for everyone.

Sorry for this small wall of text. Furthermore I would like to say I don't mean any disrespect to anyone, so please take no offence.

I hope the amount of Conquerors will double soon, I estimate about 30 people have stayed so far, most of them being new to Mythic (don't think many old conquerors are redoing the challenges. Correct Tyrant?

Best of luck to everyone!

Let's become a real "Badass" the way Johnson puts it.

Gazas, MATCLAN and I are redoing all the challenges. Although MATCLAN is on holiday at the moment. Gazas and I are currently here and active with the challenges. I also know AuraSolider and Penatonic have done a few of the challenges but not all of them.

Oh and RC Master, congrats on doing Sierra 117. You are pretty close to my best time. I need to re-run the mission and get a faster time now!

Nice job. Nice time. Nice.

It looks like I won't be able to do Crow's Nest and The Ark either. No RRoD but the Xbox keeps freezing again. Just my luck.

EDIT: Gazas, have you tried blowing all the dust out? That really does seem to help with the freezing. Or maybe a more ventialted area?

how exactly do you hyperlink your entry and how does this relate to the actual film in my fileshare?

PS
I played with Pahat Pojat last night, his fileshare is filled to the brim with amazing mythic films, sierra 117 in 11 min. and tsavo highway wih no vehicles or plasma pistols? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It froze a couple of days ago as well and I opened it to clean it. It workes just fine.

Now the same thing happened and I did the same thing, opened it up and cleaned it, although there wasn't really anything to clean, everything was still shiny from last time I cleaned it.

It could be the fact that the console is so old. Maybe something melted in there or something. lol.

On the brightside, you are already in the bonus raffle. Taht is my goal, to be entered into that. Then you have like a 1 in 20 chance of winning.

Less actually, but even those odds are kicking my ass. The bright side can never be too bright.

My dad says that we'll go buy a new Xbox, I think he's saying it to cheer me up but we'll see how it will go.

You know, my parents would probably see me doing it and they'd not let me when they see me turning on the Xbox wrapped up in towels.

Jokes aside, I haven't got RRoD, the screen keeps freezing.

This trick wouldn't happen to be the 'back-in-time' glitch would it? It has similar results to what you described. Hornet -> back of spire -> fly over mountain ->scarabs disappear -> smooth sailing to spire.

Kind of yeah. But the guy used a Ghost instead of a Hornet. So he skipped most of the pre-scarab fight. I'm just wondering how would it work in a full Mythic run of that mission.

Finally beat Sierra... I got so sick of dying on the 2nd fight and the dam that I took it slowly and finally won w/ the 1.0 method and a time of 40 min. I'm looking forward to Crow's Nest and I'm watching Pahat's SLASO run right now (17 min!!!). My fav parts are the hangar and jet pack fight... he's just ridiculous, as we all already know.

I have a couple of questions if anyone could help. First, is it worth using the grav hammer and deployable cover to skip the barracks on mythic? The legendary speed run dies on the first try, so its gotta be a hard jump, but do you guys think its worth learning for a mythic run?

Second, when exactly does the jet pack door open on the right w/ the 4 brutes and how do you know when? Is there a certain sound to listen for?

I'm not actually sure when it opens, I haven't played the mission in a long time so I can't remember what triggered it.

I wouldn't reccommend skipping it, because its better to stockpile for the Jump Pack Brutes.

Also, it seems we got a race going on. Three people are at 8/9 mission on Mythic.
