Crow's Nest beaten! So much for me not beating it.
Submitting in a second.

Oh, and an interesting thing happened during my run. Whilst on the elevator to the Jump Pack Brutes, a Regenerator glitched and froze in mid air. Strangest thing I'd seen for a while.

Oh (again), 14,777 Campaign Kills. Enough 7 references for you? : )

Tell you what, after I beat Crow's Nest, we'll see if I have more 7 references than you. =)

Wow Gazas thats awesome. Props to your dad for knowing that you have to beat these last two missions!

As for Crow's Nest, I've beaten it SLASO twice offline and I think it is not that difficult at all if you take it slowly. I know Tyrant has already done 2 excellent guides, but here I'd like to outline exactly how I do it foolproof with tips along the way.

1. Stay far back and BR the hell out of the grunts and jackals in the first hallway. Your AI should clean up w/ grenades. Then BR/nade the grunts and jackals as you head to the hangar.
2. In the hangar, you must be quick to start or your AI will get fried by plasmas. BR/nade the jackals immediately as you run up to the right and assassinate the 2 grunts. Pick up BR ammo above and knock out the window to BR the 3 grunts headed up on the right. Then immediately go to the left side of that room, knock out the diagonal window, and BR the 3 grunts on the left. Check the left 2 grunts on the deck to make sure they are dead. This will leave much of your team alive and will aide significantly in your survival. From here, move down to the floor with your marines and pick off grunts with your BR as they land. If you can, hide behind the panel on the right and PP/BR combo a Brute or 2 as they land since they cant dodge. After this, the enemies shouldnt rush you anymore, so run & jump up to grab more BR ammo, pick off remaining grunts/jackals, and PP the remaining brutes. Remember you have PP back where you killed the jackals and grunts in that little hallway.
3. Grab 2 brute shots in the hangar and 1 in the big hallway as you head to the drones. The splash damage easily kills the drones, so sit back and shoot away. Use your BR when u run out of BS and restock on BR at the crate to the left.
4. Grab 2 PP and head to the Motor Pool. While many consider this a very hard fight, it is extremely easy if you stay in the hallway before. Here's the trick: crouch down on the bottom ramp so that you can only see their legs. Shoot a charged PP shot at them and they will not dodge! Do this for all brutes, luring them in to melee only if you need shield. Once 1 or 2 brutes are left, the Chieftain will charge. PP/BR combo him or assassinate him for the invincibility. Save it for the end of the barracks.
5. Take hammer and BR. Hammer the drone passing you in the 3rd row, then wait and hammer the next 2 that come out. This gives you 3 PP and full health for the next battle, so lose the hammer and take the PPs down to the barracks.
6. Charge w/ 2 PP and take out the shields of the 2 brutes not holding the human. They will most likely attack him, giving you time to kill them and the brute holding the poor guy. Peek your head out to PP/BR the monkeys, but beware the jackals on the top-right. Climb up and stay on their ladder and BR their hands then faces, or nade them if they are stuck between a box and the fence. Use their PP to take out the brutes from a distance (careful of the brute shot). Do this through the barracks until you reach the Chieftain. Open the door on the right, run toward the Chieftain, and activate your invincibility to melee him. PP a couple brutes as you run back through the door and aide your team from the corner room.
7. If you can, give Arbiter the Plasma Cannon and stockpile all PP and Plasma Rifles for the jet pack fight. Bring a Regen if you can. Shoot the brutes through the hole on the left side of the elevator with PP as they land so they dont dodge. Be quick to BR any brutes w/o shields so they dont kill your AI. Let your AI do as much of the killing in wave 1 as you can so you have more Plasma shots for the dangerous second wave.
8. Juggle the 2 Camos and Regen to the next fight. Melee the grunt on the turret quickly for shields. BR/nade the jackals and grunts until you reach the snipers. Activate Camo, head up and assassinate them. Take your other Camo up to the control room. Use 2 deployable covers on the right so the grunts only come up on the left. PP one brute while you stick the other and head back to the ramp. BR grunts as they come up. Poke your head out to the left, PP the turret brute, return and switch to BR, then peek out and BR the mofo in the face as he is getting off the turret. For the Chieftain, activate camo and assassinate him. If his back isn't toward you, melee him in the face and he will try to hit you. Swing around and nail him in the back.
9. BR the grunts and jackals in the next room. I feel its safe to run through, but at this point, you might want to play it safe and kill everything.
10. In the hallway, let the drones pass, and BR the grunts as you head toward the back to finish them off from afar. BR all grunts in this room as any live ones will stick you. Use nades to check corners and behind boxes.
11. In the hangar, I usually run to the right, BR/nade the 2 jackals, and go straight to the elevator. If you think this is too risky, go up to the top room and BR everything you see in sight. Then go down onto the left side and BR/nade the final room until you are sure everything is dead. Walk briskly to the elevator and congratulate yourself on a mission well done.

Hopefully this helps at least one person. I tried to include all my little tricks, but if anyone has any that I didn't mention, please do share. Thanks.

Everything sounded good except for the pelican brutebattle thing. With the jumpack brutes. It is best (imo) to just hop on the pelican and spawn kill the brutes. I was wondering if their is some trick though that makes it work everytime?
And Dark, you got the exact same time on both of your crow's nest runs! =P
I DL'd one to see how you approached it.

They are actually the same run. I put 2 down because 1 for the SMRC. And another down because it was a faster time than my original run. Still a pretty slow time compared to Pahat, put its faster than my original.

Oh I see. My original was 1 hour 17 I think. Hopefully I clock in below 1 hour this time.

For my original I think I just scrapped under an hour. I got 57 minutes. This time I cut 17 minutes of that time. The Barracks was extremely easy for me because some reason all the Brutes around the Chieftan charged giving easy assassinations. Even the Chieftan charged giving an easy assassination.
The Jump Pack Brutes was easy because The Arbiter and some Marines distracted the Brutes whilst I picked them off with the Plasma Pistol.
And re-arming the bomb was easy, although I thought it wouldn't be because I entered that area with no active camo. So fearful of how I was going to kill the Chieftan, he ends up running into a wall. Easy assassinations FTW.

Well, I did not do that well on legendary campaign, so I am not going to try mythic. Though, Tyrant nice job thinking of this.

I know right, he's the best. And thanks.

BUT, I will give it Crow's Nest a rest for a day, I can't even get past the hangar. I got to the Motorpool once and the Chieftain killed me with his randomness, just looking at me for five minutes then jumping at me for five minutes.

And the hangar area is so random, I've only been killed by Grunts in that area. Could anyone give any tips? I've only completed this stupid mission once and it's my most hatred mission.

Beliving has never worked past 9 PM for me, I always end up completing a mission when the sun is shining.

Belive damn it! I beat Sierra 117 at 3.20am. Excuses are nothing!
That was the same for me, I only got past the Hanger a few times. If you haven't already, watch my video. And marvel in the floating regenerator of doom.

Ive done pretty well on CN, but then again ..Ive played the crap out of
that mission.. Preserving your marines are a lifesaver ..because it
doesnt put stress on your plasma pistol cache.

The scariest part for me is always the escape to the elevator.. =P

Unlucky!? Im about 3/4 of the way through now with no problems, BUT ONE.

I accidentally stepped to far out and the door to the Motorpool closed with all 13
of my pistols and my Battle Rifle ammo!! I couldnt believe it, my confidence have
shattered.. I was about to quit the run.. but STILL I came through and got it done to
my amazement!

My clever self used the big green long box as sort of a "merry-go-round" in the
corner of where the BR/AR racks are..and, worked them over with only 1 plasma
pistol to my name. I had to used Carbine and Plasma Rifle on the rest.

The Chieftain chased me around for a few minutes, popped his
invincibility and totally screwed me over.. But Im still alive!

Just about to the 2nd motor pool with the Jackal snipes.. =(

See, I called it! ..or cursed myself.. but, an epic fail. I choked at the Grunt/Jackal
staircase room after the Bomb/Fuel rod Chieftain. 3 Grunts were dispatched but
their plasma nades remained...

Needless to say, a careless roll of a frag to the Carbine jackals on the right hand path
caused a 8second chain lightning massacre and sent me home crying.. Im not quite
sure how I happened, I already cleared my HD cache so I cant review the film.. It is
probably better I dont honestly.

Given how rocky that run was, Im surprised I made it that far. Jetpack
Brutes were easy, I found the Arbiter with the Carbine and the Marines
with BR's decimate them as I picked off shields and a few nades..

Gotta love Mythic! *sigh*

Halo 3 (31st), ODST (14th) and Reach (4th) Mythic Conqueror. (Mythic is Solo, Legendary, All skulls on + scoring on and no deaths/saves).

Staff Writer and speedrun record holder at highspeedhalo.net

Ignorance is the true enemy of all things.

Rocking Bungie.net for over 8 years!

8/9! Just under 50 minutes.

Wow, Crow's Nest was a freaking walk in the park compared to the last three. Generally went according to plan, as expected. Certainly not as random as Cortana was! Only had one practice run, a few failed runs, and then nailed it. Awesome.

So glad it was this easy (or I was just lucky?), gives me plenty of time to practice for The Ark. And with all those ghosts? hmmmm

Used 2.0 guide in Crow's nest for the most part. Went more conservative (1.0 style) in the Motor Pool because the clip shooting (that the right terminology?) seemed really easy there. Hammer Brute decided to blind me with a flare, but fortunately I didn't need the invincibility for the Barracks since the Arbiter went freaking ape--blam!- and mauled nearly everything in the last corridor there; including the Plasma Turret Chieftain.

Had a scare at the Pelican pad just after the barracks, after planting the deployable cover in front of the door downstairs, I was just at the brutes spawn point about to go in and grab an invis, and the brutes spawned all around me! Managed to duck back into the corridor and hide behind the door until the Brutes gave up and turned away for an easy couple of assassinations. Also: Very surprised at how effective the Plasma Rifle is at taking down Brute armour. Very useful in that section.

Instead of using the invis there and at the hanger (as suggested by 2.0 guide); I used 1 to rush to the snipers in the Motor Pool, and one in the Control room (activate it, active the bomb, run straight out!). Delay the activation a bit in the control room and you can even get a few seconds of clear running with it in the cave outside. Coming back to the hanger, I just waited for the phantom to leave (to be safe) and ran straight down the middle, under the grating, up and out the hole and across to the elevator. -blam!- scary hearing all the plasma 'nades behind me exploding! But fortunately I made it.

One random factoid: Deployed deployable covers in the Hanger will remain (or at least did for me) for when you come back right at the end. Perhaps someone could make some novel use of the two spare DPs there to make return a bit safer?

Posted by: Naked Eli
I have a couple of questions if anyone could help. First, is it worth using the grav hammer and deployable cover to skip the barracks on mythic? The legendary speed run dies on the first try, so its gotta be a hard jump, but do you guys think its worth learning for a mythic run?

I wouldn't recommend it; unless you're actually speedrunning the level. Maluu is (imho) one of the best Halo trick jumpers. Period. The barracks is the last hard bit of the level (imo, and with my preferred route). Don't screw up a run on that. Plus the jump will leave you with no equipment.

BTW, Urk has failed with Friday postage of the challenge info again. Grr. What do I call my film?

Random sidenote: I am now 19 kills away from 40,000 total registered campaign kills. Awesome. What target should I have for ODST release?

Posted by: TheMoleN1
With the jumpack brutes. It is best (imo) to just hop on the pelican and spawn kill the brutes. I was wondering if their is some trick though that makes it work everytime?

In case you didn't know, (if you're talking about jumping on the Pelican) the triangular hole at the top left, next to the door, facing the landing pad, at the top of the elevator shaft, is open. Jump straight through that instead of waiting for the doors to give yourself a few extra seconds to get on the pelican. And jump straight onto its nose, don't worry about the box.

BTW guys, been a great experience so far, and I fully plan to see it through to the end at this stage (1 left! C'mon, how could I not?). Even though I and many other people have walked away (so far) with only pride of completion; the feel of finally nailing a level on the hardest difficulty Halo 3 has to offer (outside of honour rules) is amazing. Thanks to Tyrant for the great guides, HBO for the hosting, Bungie for the game (and the prizes :P) and the conquers and competitors alike for the tips and such along the way.

Am I getting too mushy on you guys? :D
