Tsavo Highway Guide

First thing you're giong to want to do is make sure you pick up extra BR ammo from the rack just to the right of the level start point. Take the Warthog, get a passenger and a gunner, and make your way through the caves. After you exit the tunnel, drive by/over the few grunts, jackals, and the brute. No need to kill them, they won't do any harm as long as you keep moving. After you reach the crest of the hill, head toward the two jackals with snipers. Either run them over or let your gunner finish them off. Once they're dead, hop out and trade your AR for a Beam Rifle which you should then give to your passenger. Get back in the hog and continue forward, pausing briefly to let your gunner take out the jackal above you. Take the path on the left but make sure to stop once you reach the rock on the left wall. Now start backing up and pulling forward repeatedly to avoid the Fuel Rod Cannon bursts coming from the brute positioned near the downed phantom. Once he has been taken care of, step out of your hog and use your BR to finish off the grunts. Look around for the Fuel Rod Cannon and trade it with your passenger for the Beam Rifle.

Head down to the right but stop when you reach the rocks along the right wall. Get out of your hog and climb to the top of the rock pile. Look for the brute down and to the left with your Beam Rifle and headshot him until he's dead. Then take out your BR and finish off the three or four grunts (you wouldn't want your hog getting stuck, would you?). Get back in the hog and head down the hill. Here's the tricky part: you want to drive your hog on top of the rock in front of you. How do you do it? Aim for the center 'section' of the rock and try to stop on the top. Let your passenger and your gunner take out everything in this area except the jackal snipers on the right (they won't bother you as long as you stay in the hog). Once the coast is clear, back your hog off of the rock and follow the left wall all the way around the area. Just as you exit the area you'll see some brutes and grunts. You can splatter them if you want, but I prefer to just avoid them.

Once you pass this area, you will come to another rock that splits the road; take the right path. You'll notice you're in a bit of a depression in the ground here; you want to stay near this depression. When you reach the other side of the rock, look up and to the left for the Chieftan wielding the Fuel Rod Cannon. Let your crew take a couple of shots at him, then turn left and circle around the rock. Rinse and repeat until the Chieftan is downed. Now pull up a little bit, into the area near the truck. Be sure to keep your distance, though, you don't want to get stuck by a grunt. Let your gunner take out a brute or two, then pull back and over to the right behind the buildings where you can safely evaccuate your hog and switch your sniper with your passenger for his Fuel Rod Cannon. (Note: If you're having trouble switching weapons, it could be that you're out of sniper ammo. To fix this, just find another gun to switch the sniper for, which you can then in turn swap for the FRC) Look across the road to find and destroy the shade turret on top of the hill (it will take two FRC rounds). Make sure the area on your side of the truck is clear, then find a PP and hide behind the buildings on the right.

This part is slightly harder. What you're trying to do is take out one of the two choppers on the road by PPing it from behind the building to stop it, PPing the brute to take his shields down, and headshotting the brute with your BR. The second chopper is a bit different; you still want to hide behind the building and PP the chopper, but this time once the chopper is stopped, dash across the street while charging a PP, then hit the brute once the PP charges, and board his chopper. Use the chopper to finish him off. Stay where you are and kill all the brutes at the other end of the road with the chopper. Next, boost to the top of the hill where the shade turret was, and get out of your chopper. Begin chucking sticky grenades over the hill, trying to hit the shade turret below and to the right of you. Once that's taken care of, grab some more stickies and aim for the bottom center of the shield door to destroy it. Get back in the chopper and kill the few brutes lurking just inside the shield door, being careful not to get too close. Approach the tunnel from the left side of the road, but just before you reach it (this triggers the drones to come), stop and backtrack to the truck, firing into the tunnel the whole time. Shoot down the drones that manage to make it out of the tunnel, MAKE SURE TO GRAB A FRESH PP, then find your way back to the buildings you were hiding in a minute ago. Look for the grav lift in the corner of one of them and grab it; in the same building there should also be BR ammo. Get back in the chopper and continue through the tunnel.

Drive along the bridge, but stop before the barricades. Get out and put down the grav lift on the left side of the bridge. Use it to get your chopper across.

When you reach the next area, you NEED to stop before the truck, get out, and look around the right side of the truck to find two grunts and a brute. Killing the two grunts with a BR causes the brute to charge your marines and start a melee war with them. Use this opportunity to assassinate the brute to regain any lost shields. Shoot the two other grunts closest to you, then get back in your chopper and head along the right wall behind the phantom (we're going to skip this part). This next step is absolutely necessary: once you emerge from behind the phantom, drive as fast as you can, taking the left path and boosting constantly. You should make it past the two choppers and the wraith. The reason why you need to boost to the left is to avoid the wraith on the right; if you're fast enough, you can get through the tunnel before the wraith's secondary gun has enough time to turn around and kill you.

After you get out of the tunnel, you should see two brutes and two empty choppers. If you're low on shields, kill one and shoot the other one until he starts charging, then melee him for extra shields. Take a new chopper if you need to, then drive down the bridge, stopping before the downhill slope. Watch for the two choppers at the bottom, and when the coast is clear, boost across and into the side of the hill. Ditch your chopper and slowly climb the hill. Remember the PP we saved from earlier? This is where it comes in handy. Inch your way up the hill, looking for the top part of the wratih just above you. When you see it, charge your PP then pop out and try to hit the brute in the turret. If you did, take out your BR, pop out again, and take care of him. If you run out of PP ammo, there's a fresh one by a dead grunt at the bottom of the hill under the bridge - just watch your step, you don't want to get killed by a chopper. Now this time, aim for the top of the wraith with your PP. If you hit it, it should be disabled for a few seconds. Jump over the hill, charge another PP to stop it again in case it moves, then jack it. Melee the hatch until the brute dies, but not a single melee further. Get in your newly jacked wraith and boost down the bridge quickly to avoid the other wraiths. Once you reach the drop pods on the right side of the road, you're out of range of the other wraiths, so you're safe from them.

The final part of the level requires nothing more than patience. It is short, but there are a lot of brutes and you don't want to have to start over after you've come this far. Take your time blasting the brutes until you're sure they're all dead, then move on to the next section. Once again, take your time; I spent a good ten minutes on this part alone. Another tip: keep a good distance between you and the brutes. When they're all downed, shoot the shield door and the level's over.

Whew...

Umm, thanks to StaroceanZero and The Tyrant, I took much of this walkthrough from their guides and films.

My response to minidemonkillza: sure you have...

Anyways, I've been working on the Storm, but most of my deaths have been confusing and a bit annoying. Marines not helping, marine standing directly in front of my Missile Pod when I shoot it, dying for no explicable reason while jumping (nothing hit me).

Any tips on a fast way through the first Lake Bed? I've found an approach that can get me through without a scratch, but the downside is that it takes at least 10 minutes. =/

If a Marine is standing infront of the Missile Pod, rip it off. Or if you have time, manually move him out of the way. When your fighting the Scarab, watch out for its top gun, if your hiding in the area inbetween the missile pods, the top gun can shoot through the bit at the top, the wire stuff. If you hide behind the wall, it can still kill you. Just out run it.

The first lake bed; if you take the Wraith down first (not the AA Wraith). Then hop back in a Ghost and clear the building out, if your fast enough, there will be a Missile Pod in there. Use that to take out the Ghosts. I used the Missile Pod in my SLASO The Storm run.

If you want, I completed The Storm yesterday, so you can watch my video

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

What should I try next?

Nice! Keep going! Try any level except for The Ark.

Good stuff, I just downloaded the vid. I personally recommend The Storm. I also agree with Tyrant, stay away from The Ark for as long as possible, lol.

Sadly we've been getting a lot of people like this lately. Please, if you're going to come into this forum and claim you're so good at SLASO and it's so easy and that you've beaten every SLASO level in under a day, upside down with your hands tied behind your back, blindfolded and your head in a bucket of piranhas, at least have a small bit of proof to back up your claim. This also includes beating it, but on a friend's account.

No video + No game stats = No dice.

Video with Campaign scoring on is the best proof, since at the end of the video it displays how many Gold skulls you had on, plus the silver skulls are easy enough to prove. Even then, you don't NEED Campaign scoring, as long as you can tell the 9 skulls are on. ie. Shields don't recharge, Brutes are promoted one rank, etc.

If there's no video, then you look up Game stats. Go to the person's service record, look under Game History and then Campaign and it will show all the Campaign games they've played including how long it took them to beat the level, the difficulty, the number of skulls on and how many players were in it. You can tell if someone used the Save and Quit trick if they beat the level in an absurdly short time.

Yeah, that Missile Pod keeps disappearing on me whenever I need it. The Scarab fight hasn't really proven to be a problem for me, though. Just kind of weird that I got a fall timer death on a jump that normally works just fine.

I'm going to check out your video and Starocean Zero's. I'm sure I'll fine something useful.

The Scarab battle on the Storm can be iffy. The big thing here is patience.

Keep It Clean.

This sounds like a challenge!

  • 08.05.2008 9:03 AM PDT

Haha! Random amusement...both Starocean Zero and Jew man man break all the glass in the first room by running through it. I do the exact same thing.

But yeah, I was right, I did find something I hadn't noticed. Looks like destroying the Wraith (as opposed to simply killing off the driver and gunner and leaving it there to use later) makes enemies come outside when the door is opened.

I even got an idea on how to make sure I get that Missile Pod...

Oh, one last thing though. Starocean Zero and Jew man man...that BR crate in that room...you can pick up ammo from it by standing on top of it and crouching. No need to flip it. Lol.

The Storm and Sierra 117 are both challenging but also fun do to the layouts. Even though I get royally pissed when I make it all the way to the end and then die from something stupid, it's still fun :-)
