Funny thing is, I tried using tape and I actually found it harder... so I just play without it.
Thanks to Tyrant's tip, the first half of The Storm is a cakewalk for me now. I can make it to the Scarab 9/10 times (I die every once in a while from the ghosts in the first lakebed)... but I can't beat the Scarab. Trouble is, I can keep full shields long enough to take out all the grunts and board the Scarab, but once I'm on board, the brutes always see me sneaking around and overwhelm me. Help?...
Oh, funny story; One time I did manage to kill the Scarab with a missile pod and walk into the next area. I went to check if I had my BR or my PP out by firing at the ground, but to my surprise, there was a huge explosion that left me dead... I forgot that I was carrying a rocket launcher. Needless to say, I was not very happy... Well I'll never do that again. Now I know to look at my shadow to tell what weapon I have.
Happy to help :-)
Now for the Scarab. So far I haven't been able to find a way that works 100% of the time, but here's a method that seems to work most of the time.
As soon as the Scarab drops, hop on a missile pod and unload as much as you can. Try to make the back side crumble. From there, let the Marines use it. Between them and the surrounding hornets, they will usually be able to take out most of the competition onboard. Note you may have to wait until the Scarab stands still (which it will eventually) and take out the Brutes from a distance with a PP/sniper combo.
Next is the tricky part. Boarding the Scarab can be nothing short of a pain since it's relatively unpredictable. Odds are if you've waited long enough for your allies to take out the baddies onboard the Scarab, then the flip side is that not too many of your allies will be left either, leaving the odds greater of the scarab itself targeting you.
Here are the two main things you need to worry about. If you're up on the crane, the scarab's secondary gun has a rooten habbit of turning around and hosing you with plasma. To help avoid this, wait until its focus is on the friendly Pelican. The other thing you need to worry about is the actual boarding. Sometimes when you jump, the Scarab backs away, and unless there's a vehicle on the ground, you're fried. Make sure when you jump, enough of the scarab is under the crane so that even if it starts to back up, it won't affect you boarding it.
I have yet to find a way to actually lure it into the right position as I just tend to wait. Could anyone shed some light on that particular aspect?
I love unloading a good 10-15 missiles on the back plating of that thing. I wait about two seconds after it gets down to get on the Missile Pod so that the Brutes with Spikers are out range to fire at me, but two times that I've done it the anti-air cannon the back decides not to take kindly to me. That's the only thing that discourages me from using it, but when it does work, it makes things so much easier.
I usually sit up on the sniper crane, not to board it, but instead to count how many enemies are left on board. From the spot where the sniper is, you can headshot Grunts if you're a good shot. The Brutes are hard to deal with from that range. Sometimes the Scarab will just stand still for a good while and I've actually managed to nail some Brutes with the Overcharged PP and BR headshot.
