I've been trying to rush Sierra 117 for almost a week, and I've only gotten to the dam twice (sniped the first time, stuck by a Grunt after deploying a Bubble Shield instead of the Chieftain's Invincibility the second). When I manage to skip the second battle successfully, I get to the area before the dam 95% of the time, but my success rate for skipping the second battle is abysmal. I watched Dark's video, but there didn't seem to be much to it other than getting lucky with Jackal Marksmen spawns and the Brute Shot Brute's awareness. Am I missing something?

4 or 5 tries after initially posting this, I get to the dam only to have my ride blasted halfway to Pluto by a Brute Captain's Brute Shot. I tried all the usual tricks for a couple minutes until I finally lost hope and jumped into the river. It's times like this when I just feel like telling this game to f*** off...

Brute Shot problems? Can't you just let the Arbiter deal with those for you?

Good to see you back again, Tyrant. Just in time for a major Reach teaser too. You really have a knack for turning up at the right time. :-)

Yeah, but that would take time. Time that I don't feel like taking. It seems like persistence is my best bet.

Suit yourself then. I'm an extremely patient person and have no qualms about waiting for the AI to either duke it out or position themselved for me to make a good shot.
I suppose you've tried Tyrant's 2.0 method of running under the bridge?

Are you talking about the dam? I was referring to skipping the second area (with the four Carbine Jackals). My problem at the dam was with a Brute who shot the Pelican out of my reach with his Brute Shot. I've been using a variation of Tyrant's method, specifically the one that Dark used in his speed run. Instead of sitting in the room on the near side, I run underneath the dam to the room on other side, lure the Chieftain inside, assassinate him and use his Invincibility to get to Johnson's prison. That's not the hard part for me, though. My success at the dam is 33% (counting the time the Brute prevented me from boarding the Pelican), compared to something like 10% for skipping the second battle. Depending on where they spawn, I try to kill 2 of the Carbine Jackals as I rush to the exit. Of course, they don't always spawn where it's easy to pick 'em off, and when they do, the Brute with a Brute Shot likes to rain on my parade.

My first (and only) completion of Sierra 117 took over 2.5 hours. I can be patient when I need to be, but after seeing Pojat and Dark's times, I've been trying to cut my time to around 20 mins, but I haven't had any luck yet.

Have you tried assassinating the brute in the first area for a bubble shield? It's in Dark's run and it increases your chance of survival slightly. That skip there though is tricky and takes a good measure of luck.

That sounds like a good idea. It's been so long since I've actually played the first battle, I'd forgotten that first Brute had a Bubble Shield. But when exactly should I use it? I suppose that changes with the Jackals' spawns and where the Brutes are as I pass. I feel like most of my deaths there come before I jump from the crate, so I suppose I'll start with dropping it as I wade through the water.

Btw, I checked the run in Dark's file share, and he didn't bother getting the first Brute's Bubble Shield. Guess he's that much better than me.

Nice work! I'll give it a watch sometime... it's been awhile, but I've wanted to do a speedrun of Sierra myself.

Thanks, Arctic. Btw, has anyone ever told you how awesome your username is? It kicks ketsu (Japanese slang for buttocks). Anyway, I'd really like to see Pojat's 11 minute Sierra run, but it's not in his file share. I've got his Crow's Nest, Ark, and Covenant videos, but there are a few too many campaign missions to fit them all into his non-Bungie Pro file share (hint).

Rather than double posting....

During one of my recent failed Sierra speedrun attempts, I heard some unfamiliar NPC dialogue as I was exiting the tunnel in which the Chief has his first Cortana episode ("Could you sacrifice me to complete your mission? Could you watch me die?" Yeah, I've got it down packed... or is it pact? I dunno). I'm not 100% sure what was said, but it sounded like this:
"Sir, you okay?"
"Your vitals just pinged KIA."
It was definitely two different voices. The first one sounded unfamiliar, but that might've been due to what sounded like a bad radio connection. I feel like I recognized the second, but I can't place it. Has anyone else heard this before?

Congrats on the speed run, and now I know whihc are you're referring to. My bad.
As for the new dialogue, no I've never heard it before. Then again, didn't Vince record hearing some different stuff close to ODST's release?

Is this in response to an attempt by yourself? Or just a general comment?
If it's the former then I recommend that you stick at it.

Thanks Hubb. I came up with the username in like 2 minutes though... I didn't put much thought into it.

And I'm pretty sure that those quotes are actually scripted... I haven't played Sierra in a long time but those words are very familiar.

@MATCLAN: I vaguely remember hearing that, but nothing specific comes to mind.

@AT: Really? I've gotten to that point at least 20-30 times in the last week and a half, and I'm pretty sure I only heard it the one time. *shrug* My absent-mindedness is well known amongst my friends (and acquaintances too, probably).

My run of Sierra 117 in my File Share is sloppy. I need to do a cleaner run, but can't be bothered at the moment. Could easily knock of two minutes.

Knock me down to 15minutes. Pahat's is 11.
Might do it one of these days, get back in Halo to warm up for Reach Beta.

Good to see you back again, Tyrant. Just in time for a major Reach teaser too. You really have a knack for turning up at the right time. :-)
Unfortunately, the Arbiter isn't all that useful on Sierra 117 on Legendary. When he pulls out the energy sword, chaos ensues, but in a bad way.

He's actually more useful on The Covenant, particularly at Revelation. This Arbiter spawned at Revelation is invincible. I had a video up a few months ago showing how useful he is.

This is a strategy for Legendary, so I don't know if it will work on Mythic. I gave up Mythic a few weeks ago anyway. :(

Part 1 - Bring a Fuel Rod Gun and a Carbine to the Grunt birthday party, consisting of Grunts, Jackals, and a Brute Ultra and uninvited guests. :P Use the Carbine to headshot the two Fuel Rod Gun Heavy Grunts at the back and then either let the Grunts and Jackals take down the Arbiters shield, or use a Plasma Pistol from the nearby supply case (you have to get it quickly). There is, I believe, a 50% chance that the Arbiter will take out his energy sword when his shields are drained. Wait till the Arbiter has cleared the closer enemies and follow him, or he will stop pursuit. When the Arbiter has reached the Brute Ultra, carefully make your way to his position to get the second pair of Heavy Grunts spawn. The Arbiter will take them out or you can headshot them yourself.

Part 2 - Switch to your Fuel Rod Gun, jump on the supply case, and go on top of the roof. Zoom in, aim your Fuel Rod Gun at the Marathon symbol (you can't miss it!), and shoot three Fuel Rods at the Jump Pack Brute in the middle. It takes three Fuel Rods to kill a Jump Pack Brute (Mythic and Tilt turned on). Then take out the other Jump Pack Brutes with the Fuel Rod Gun.

After you have killed all of the Jump Pack Brutes (zoom in to make sure), go forward and jump down, then quickly climb up the supply case and get back on the roof. If you want, you can range shot that Brute Ultra with that sick Brute Shot before you go forward. Go back and get a Plasma Pistol, get on the roof, and do what Tyrant did.

Now the next part will be very frustrating so let the Arbiter take the damage instead of taking his shield down yourself. Nothing could be more embarrassing then taking down the Arbiters shield only for him to do nothing but take cover.

And do not go through the door. The Flood ruin everything! D: Get on the roof and headshot the Heavy Grunts, who will probably have their attention on the Arbiter and will be facing your direction, for a easy headshot (you should see what happens when you let the Grunts live :P). Now stay there, until the Arbiter starts kicking ass. Then jump down and follow him to make sure he continues the pursuit. He will charge at the Brute Chieftain and his Brute Bodyguards.

Now this will be very dangerous so sit back and keep your distance and let the Arbiter do his work. If he gets knocked off the bridge, he will respawn again and again until he wins. :D

I'm not trying to get attention here. I haven't even completed Halo 3 on Legendary. I'm just a Halo 3 strategy enthusiast and I like lending a helping hand. :)

Wow, the thread is still going strong!

Hey Gazas, MATCLAN, Salsa and whoever else ive talked to in the past (you all probably forgot my flaky arse!) I think it was the SMRC a few months back since the last time ive been active!

Ive yet to get back on H3 since August, I really do hate my life sometimes... But, having a busy schedule has it's perks. Too bad I couldnt get any farther on my conqueror quest.. which has been eating at my soul.

I STILL have my mythic crow in the fileshare, haha..
Fear not, I will accomplish what has been left undone!
Missing out on all the fun really does take its toll.

Don't mind me though, just wanted to say hello & vent!

Welcome back! It's good to see that there is some Mythic interest... not much has been happening lately.

You haven't missed much since the SMRC... except for ODST, but for Halo 3 it has been fairly quiet since.
