The Covenant - When you clear the first tower and grab the Chieftan's invincibility, when's the best time to use it? Also, when you reach the first tower. Is it good to clear out the entire tower before going to the top. Because I found a way to only kill a few enemies and a trick to get to the top. And I still have my invisibility. But this causes more enemies to gather at the front of the tower after I clear it.

I use the invincibility as I exit the first tower. You won't really need it in the second as the power drain will take care of the invis Brutes and you can use the laser against the War Chieftian.

Three Simple Steps for Sierra 117 S.L.A.S.O.

Backtracking: If you'll notice from my video, I spend more time backtracking than anything else. Don't be afraid to do it! A little backtracking goes a long way. In fact, if you're good at backtracking and conserving your ammo, you'll be able to use a BR or Carbine throughout the entire level.

Stockpiling: More than likely you'll only be doing this in the "dam" area of the map, but doing so is vital. As most of the SLASOers here will tell you, the worst thing that can happen is eliminating almost every enemy, but then running out of ammo for those last few plasma-wielding Grunts. My advice? For the last part of the level bring the following:

- a FULL Battle Rifle
- a FULL Carbine
- at least two virtually unused Beam Rifles
- a Sniper Rifle
- at least four Plasma Pistols

It make take some time, but it'll be worth it to you. The name of the game here is to stay on that far ledge as long as possible and at least until the Chieftian is dead. You can bring weapons by "juggling" them to the appropriate destination or by dual-wielding and dropping.

Ranged Shooting: Apparently once you're a certain distance away from the Brutes, they become mildly retarted and will just stand there while you peg them from a distance. Use this opportunity to plasma-charge their armor. It won't home in from that kind of distance, but as long as you can line up your shot it shouldn't matter. They'll only move if something provokes them (like the Arbiter or stray Marines that are just begging for death). From there a simple headshot from either the BR or Carbine will do the trick.

My second level is done! And I can't even believe it myself, it's Sierra 117!!

(0 - Arrival)
1 - Floodgate
2 - Sierra 117
3 -
4 -
5 -
6 -
7 -
8 -
9 -

Am I overreacting?

Awesome :-)

Now can you link us to your gamertag?

It looks like he did the save/quit glitch because floodgate is done in under 5min and sierra 117 in under 5. Maybe I'm wrong and looking at the wrong games but...

What's that now?

EDIT: I just noticed, and I don't know, but I did save and quit for breaks. or is that not allowed=?

lol Sierra 117 in under 2 minutes on SLASO. Can I be your friend?

I didn't beat it in 2 minutes, I saved and quit to take a break now and then, but that's not allowed so I'm gonna do it again.

My "strategic" Sierra 117 SLASO run is now in my fileshare if you need help with it. Link is in the OP. Hopefully GeeVee's site will be able to handle it. It's pretty long.

So, I had a great run going on Tsavo Highway. Got rid of all the Choppers around the front of Wraith hill. But then I ran out of Plasma Pistols and I had no way to kill the gunner in the Wraith. I went around the hill to see if I could find anything to use, and eventually the second Wraith noticed me. I managed to maneuver around and board the back, bashed it to death for full shields, then a Chopper came for me. I shot off my Fuel Rod Gun in to it three times, destroying it. I thought there was a chance I could make it back, but then two more Choppers came after me. I evaded them a few times, but in the end I died.

So, I did some checking, and I found a few places where there are Plasma Pistol just prior to the battle with the jump pack Brutes.

Now, as for Hunters...after some creative thinking just a second ago and a bit of remembering, I think I have a plan for the ones on the Covenant. I forgot to mention something about my fight with the Hunter. See, I was able to get it to follow me all around outside...and I think there would be enough time to hop in the seat of my Hornet and fly up enough so that he can't bother me. Then it's bye-bye Hunter while he gets a barrage of bullets and missiles. Presuming Hunter number two will follow me in the same way after being damaged enough, he too will follow and meet the same fate.

That's two Hunter encounters that can be solved by vehicles out of four (the Ark encounter #2 using Tank and the Hornet on The Covenant)

The Storm at least gives you access to Rocket Launchers and Missile Pods, so that takes care of a third encounter.

Now a solution to the first Hunter encounter on the Ark...that's not going to be so easy.

The invincibility isn't necessary, but it can mean the difference between victory and defeat. If you were smart and you saved at LEAST 2 laser shots for the Armor Chieftain on the 3rd tower, you don't need invincibility and you can use it at your leisure (I used it at the first Flood encounter since I didn't NEED it anymore). There are only 2 ways I know of for taking out the Armor Chieftain. You can laser him (2 shots with no shields, 3 shots with shields) or you can use invincibility to survive his Plasma Cannon and get close and engage him in a melee war. I recommend the former.

In response to the Hunters showing up on The Ark, I'm pretty sure it depends on the number of Brutes you kill. I think after you kill about 2 or 3, you have around 30 seconds or so until the Hunters show up, which is why it's critical to kill as many Brutes as possible as fast as possible in that area.

Will the Brute Shot melees work for the first Ark encounter?

You can kill the Hunters on The Covenant with the Fuel Rod Gun. As for the first set of Hunters on The Ark, it's best to just avoid them completely.

Yes, but it would still be cool if we could find a way to kill them. It'd be better for the walkthrough. I hate relying on luck for anything when it comes to a walkthrough.

  • 08.22.2008 7:48 AM PDT

You can kill them that way, but that also exposes you to fire from Drones, even if it is a few Plasma bolts at a time.

But yeah, I agree on the ones on the Ark in the beginning. The Brute Shot melee is probable...but I highly recommend against it. The other Hunter won't sit back and let you try and kill the other with melees. It'd only work if we could kill one Hunter first.
