Subject: My Quest for SLASO (Updated 5/22/2008)

Just finished up Tsavo Highway. I implemented strategies that Jew man man and Tyrant used in addition to my own.

Has anyone else noticed that there is music cued by the death of the Chieftan at the end? Because that was what let me know I was just about finished.

5/9. Over half-way there.

Loose talk is noose talk.

Well, here's the full story:

Last night I loaded up the Storm, but I left Iron and Blind off so I could develop a strategy for beating the level. Up till the Hunters, I had little trouble (Died twice, stupidest reasons in the book, also I had the luckiest time with the scarab EVER). Before attacking the Hunters, I gave Arby the rockets, but he ended up dying in the major fight with the brutes before the Hunters, which led him to lose the rockets and take out his sword. I didn't notice until it was too late.

When I did notice was when the Hunters were screaming at the top of their alien lungs at me, killing every single marine they set eyes upon. The Arby tried futility to kill the hunters, with only a sword to boot. I spent the next 30 minutes trying to kill the enemies before I gave up.

Now I have learned, take things SLOW.

From my experience with that level, yeah. The Hunters will take a while to kill. If it weren't for the fact that the game spawns additional Marines to assist, the fight would last even longer. But I do think the Arbiter can damage them with the Sword. I'm not sure, though.

Problem is, that he attacked the hard armor shield arm part, not the orange flesh.

Hello, Community!

Hopefully if you're reading this, it's because you're interesting in kicking your campaign experience up a notch by cranking up the Legendary with all skulls activated :-) Need advice? A guide? Maybe even a friendly community to cheer you on and help guide you through the process? Then give our Mythic thread a read, and Godspeed on your Mythic journey!

Best Regards,
The Tyrant

Nice job! I'm implementing new strategies with Tsavo Highway now. It looks like in the area just after the bridge (where the Marines are trapped) you can kill off the first wave of enemies without triggering the Phantom. This allows for safe passage across the area in a chopper before the next wave arrives with the Chieftian.

So I was just working on Sierra 117 again for the first time since we did it CLASO and it was...pretty easy. I died in the area before the dam. I got hit by the last Brute before I'd go over to a Pelican because I got stuck on part of a rock when trying to evade his melee.

But with that aside, it just felt like a cakewalk.

To all CLASOers. Today (Sunday) I'm giving you the day off. Feel free to work on your SLASO or practice Crow's Nest or just have fun :-) We'll meet up again Monday 5pm EST.

For some reason Bungie hasn't updated my games since Friday. My file share on here doesn't contain my actual run of Tsavo Highway or any record of it existing, but it is currently in my file share.

Man, you guys rock! I can't believe you had a huge amount of patience to pull this off! For now, to get acquainted with the effects of the Blind skull, I'm going to beat the game on C.E.A.S.O., with a friend. Any tips before I attempt my S.L.A.S.O. run? I already know about playing Floodgate and Halo for the first two levels.

Tips? Well...

There are very few indicators for your shield status. There will be no beeping noise to indicate it. The most immediate way to tell if your shields are down is if when you get hit you think you see blood. If you just got hit and don't see any, but you think you might have no shields, move away from where you are and check the ground for any blood spatter.

Another way to check your shields is by using anything that switches you to third person camera. (E.g. Driving a Warthog, using a turret, holding a Flamethrower)

Aside from melees, there are two other ways to recover your shields: using a Regenerator or Invincibility.

---

So I'm just past Jackal Forest in Sierra 117, stockpiling my weapons. The game was ridiculously generous. I have a total of four spare Beam Rifles to supplement the one I am using.

Though assumption tends to lead to screw ups, I'd like to think I've got it in the bag now. Snipers are dead. Chieftan is dead. Carbine Brutes are dead.

It was rather funny, though. The Arbiter wouldn't revive. He was in the first building, and I had no clue where the Chieftan was. So I started tossing grenades in to the bottom room. On the third grenade I hear a Brute say "We must not allow it to escape." So I start moving around the cliff, and I hear a Brute make a startled noise, which in turn caused me to stop. I threw a grenade down just to check, and after it exploded, the Chieftan showed himself at the bottom area near where I was standing during the CLASO run. I PPed him and unloaded all of my BR in to his face, nothing. I came back, and his Carbine buddy had joined him, but he couldn't get a shot on me because of the cliff. I unload the remainder of my Sniper Rifle on the Chieftan. Nothing still. I head back, juggling one of my five Beam Rifles and my Carbine. If I see the Carbine Brute, I'll PP him and headshot him. The Beam Rifle is to deal with the Chieftan. I look down at the base of the cliff...and they're gone. I notice the Arbiter is alive, and I see a Flare that wasn't there before. So I looked around and found a dead Brute by a Carbine and not far from it the Chieftan's hammer.

The Arbiter stole my kill!

Edit: I forgive the Arbiter. The Carbine Brute he killed had a Regenerator. My shields are full, but this pretty much ensures I will stay alive.

Tsavo Highway S.L.A.S.O. is now in my fileshare. It looks like the GameVee grab is getting updates so I'm not real sure when it'll be ready there, but hopefully soon :-)

A question: I completed the level Floodgate SLASO earlier today. However, I died once, and didn't click restart mission. I just played it again from the beginning, and ended up beating it. Can I still say I've beaten Floodgate SLASO?

My Campaign history hasn't been updated yet, but I have the game in my fileshare.

Technically you made it from start to finish without dying (or saving) and can prove it, so yes, in my eyes it counts :-)

Though in the future I'd recommend just going ahead and restarting for anyone who wants to watch the film ;-)

Remember how I said assumptions lead to screw ups? That is exactly what happened.

Five words: "Open up and say 'aah'!" I broke the windows on the third story of the tower by walking in to them, but I went to far forward and fell down to the overhang. A Grunt had already noticed me and stuck me.

I'm pretty much back at the dam, but I found something odd. Johnson got stuck at the Pelican, so he's still standing around.

Don't feel bad. Not to long ago I had reached the point where I had rescued Johnson. I waited around for about ten minutes for the Pelican to show up, but it didn't. So I decided that not enough Covenant had died. I poked my head out and saw the Grunt prime is grenade, so I made a run for it. Too late. He didn't stick me, but the blast ricochetted a few other loose grenades and that did the job. I reloaded the level from the beginning (extremely irritated at this point) and made it all the way through.

You'll get there too :-)

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

Hey, just read the news about S.L.A.S.O. being given special permission to have the full videos on GameVee.

That's excellent news.

To think, that last November or so, I was worried that it would be impossible to get the videos onto GameVee due to the length....hah.

Anyway, nice to see the support is still kicking about, and even better to see a lot more players participating with a bit of LASO.

Remember, You Haven't Finished With The Game Until You Beat L.A.S.O.

Arbiter was being a jerk. I spent about 3 Beam Rifles worth of ammo on the Chieftan and I'm thinking: "I really wish the Arbiter would revive. I could use his help." I go over to the right side of the cliff and he is just standing there and asks me "Any way I can help?" He was there the whole time.
