On The Covenant, at the end, with the two Scarabs... thats where I am right now. I need advice on how to advance though. Should I use the Hornet, or the Scorpion? And do those Banshees respaun? Because If they do Im pretty much screwed...or is there a certain number of them I have to take out so I can get to the Scarabs? Someone with experience on this part of the level please give me some advice. I know the rest of the level is a cake walk after this...

I highly recommend blowing up all the banshees with the Scorpion, and THEN use the Hornet to blow up the Scarabs. Problem is, the marines will often take all or all but one Hornet, so once you reach that area, grab a Hornet and hide it right behind the ledge next to you so it won't get taken or blown up, then just blast the Banshees and the top of the Scarabs (to kill all the Brutes on top) with the tank. If you're lucky, while blasting the banshees with the Scorpion, the Scarab on the right will expose its back, use this oppurtunity to blow it up if you can.

Thanks for the info, with that strategy, I was able to get all the way to the end of the level, but a flood killed me at the last second with an AR. I was pissed but Im pretty sure ill get it next try, now that I have working, solid stratagies to beat each and every portion of the level. I should, with any luck, have The Covenant completed by the end of tonight.

best of luck to everyone!

I came close to beating Floodgate on my first try. Hopefully in time I'll have all of the levels complete!

I had the weirdest moment today. You know in The Storm where you have to kill the Hunters by giving Arby the rockets? Well, I gave him the rockets and I got his sword in return. What shocked me was that the sword had a near infinite charge (I don't know the exact number, blind was on, so was all skulls except for Iron). I managed to kill both hunters with the sword, the Chieftain, and a Brute. I should have a video later on today.

Just had it heppen to me now. I killed Arby to give him my wep, but he dropped a PR and a sword. Sword was unlimited.

And finally beat Halo, just too long for GeeVee. Your strategy worked pretty well Tyrant. i was trying to figure out a way to skip all the fights along the way, and yours works great.

I actually got a good amount of experience in on the Ark. I made it up to the group of enemies just before I would encounter the first Wraith.

I made it through the crashed Pelican area with no shields, recovered them, and with no Marine assistance spent all three of my rockets to destroy the two parked Choppers and parked Ghost so the enemies didn't have a chance to use them. I ended up luring the Chopper and Ghost that are already occupied over the hill and got rid of them...well, actually the Grunt landed on his hood. It counted as being flipped and so I PPed it which pushed it in the way of the Grunt's grenade throw.

Considering the fact that I had no experience with those areas with SLASO settings, I'd say I did well.

That is good but don't get too cocky, it's the last few battles which make The Ark completely unmerciful, lol.

Good stuff, just remember the points where the Flood will ambush you from afar and adjust your strategy accordingly. If you can manage to snag the Chieftain's Hammer from before, even better.

Glad I could help :-) Alternatively, you could give Arbiter the rocket launcher. Just makes it take longer though, and the Flood respawn continuously.

i tried a bunch of different weapon combos with Arby. The rockets are alright, but his melee with the rockets never seems to do anything. His dual PR seems to work best because his melee is strong, and he can drain the shields of those pesky elite forms.

Note: Dont give him shotgun

Fighting your way would be rather useless anyway. I usually fight to clear areas of enemies before moving forward, but since on this level they continuously respawn, it would just be a waste of time and valuable ammo.

Speaking of which, has there been some sort of recent update to campaign? I was doing a practice run on the Covenant last night SLESO (Solo Legendary Eleven Skulls On) and noticed after i took my laser back from my Marine, it was only 37%? It used to stay at 100! Seriously what happened?

Anyone know why the Chieftan in the first tower doesn't always drop Invincibility? Sometimes he has a Flare, or nothing at all. I need the Invincibility to get out of the Tower. Its nearly impossible killing everyone at the front after I descend the tower.

Oh Okay :-)

While I don't know why it doesn't always show up, I figured out a better way to exit the first tower even without it.

If you fight your way throught it, which as it turns out is remarkably simply, then upon exiting, there will only be a couple of Jackals and a few Grunts. Your Marines will also be there to help. I did this twice yesterday, and the interior battles shouldn't give you any trouble as long as you take your time :-)

Chieftans are the only enemy who can still follow your movements very well while you're cloaked. Unless they are distracted by something else, they will continue to face you.

That's true, sometimes he won't drop it, but you don't NEED it anyway, getting it is just a bonus.

Yes, Weapon Chieftain's are difficult to assassinate, even with invisibility. I find the best way to do it is to jump over top of them, turn around in mid air and melee before you even touch the ground. I didn't do this in my run on The Covenant, but it's what I WOULD'VE done if he didn't charge at me prematurely.

And you are right. The invincibility is just a perk and not a must. Especially if you kill everything in the tower beforehand, you shouldn't have any trouble with the decent.

Is there a way to kill the Brutes at the bottom of Tower 3? I got passed them once today, but they didn't spawn and I reached the Citadel, but a Banshee killed me while I was attacking the Wraith. But when I went down the tower I ran out of PP's for the Brutes.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

I'm going to mix things up a bit. I've already done Floodgate and Halo S.L.A.S.O style but Cortana... I always get very close to the end and die. I might try the hardest missions before anything else.

  • 08.26.2008 4:03 PM PDT

Loose talk is noose talk.

SLESO sounds fun. Maybe we should all have a CLESO day for the hell of it.

There are two strategies I know of for killing the Chieftain at the top of the 3rd tower. One is to use laser shots (2 or 3) and the other is to use the invincibility to engage him in a melee war and assassinate him.

Well if you REALLY want to, the hardest two missions are, undoubtedly, Crow's Nest and The Ark, with The Ark being the hardest. However, I would not recommend doing them before the other levels, just because you'll want to practice your techniques from the other levels before you tackle these beasts.
