Update on "The Covenant" walkthrough:

This level is a bit tough. No not the level itself, but the number of inconsistencies it delievers. And by inconsistencies, I mean glitches that keep me from being able to use the same steps every time. Of course I can tell these "glitches" were not intended and need to be fixed. Here are some of the things I mean:

1) Invincible Hammer Chiefain. He must die in order to activate the tower, so unlike Sierra 117, there's no skipping him. And in order to get a full BR up there, you need to use your invis before the lift itself. Needless to say, if this happens you're screwed.

2) Spartan Laser Ammo. Sometimes when you give it to a Marines, it still comes back with a 100% charge. Other times it's less than 40. You need at least two to kill the last Chiefain as well. This makes it difficult to judge when you should actually use it.

3) Stuck Pelican. It seems like the designers just got bored here, and at the end of the mission, the Pelican usually glitches into some sort of scenary after a few minutes. Sometimes even right behind you. This makes it near impossible to take out the Scarabs.

I find sniper and beam rifles have absolutely no effect on Chieftains. If you're gonna kill them, it needs to be either in a melee war, or by shooting their helmet off and getting a headshot.

Oh my run, the Pelican did get stuck behind me. But I took them out still. But it was a risk going out with both them shooting at me.

Best Regards,

I've been doing a great deal of research, and I may have found a "cure" for at least two of the glitches I mentioned in an above post regarding The Covenant.

1) Invincible Chieftain: I've noticed this only seems to occur after he uses the invincibility powerup. So what triggers him to use it? I'm not sure exactly, but so far it seems like if I try to use the beam rifle against him, he eventually activates it. However, if I use the BR from a great enough distance and keep enough of his Brute comrads alive so he doesn't berserk, his helmet can be shot off. This needs more testing, but I think I've got it down. Correct me if I'm wrong.

2) Low-Ammo Laser: What sucks about this glitch is that it effects you long term and because of the Blind Skull, you won't know whether or not it's happened until it's too late. This is when you pass off the laser to a Marine with a 100 perecent charge, and then take it back with roughly a 40 percent charge. And while using two on the Wraith in the beginning isn't necessary (just takes longer to have you Marine destroy it), you will need 2-3 shots to kill the Chieftain in the third tower. This method also hasn't been tested enough, but I believe it works. Pass your full laser to a Marine, then immediately take it back. You should still have 100 percent. From there, every time you take it back from a Marine, you should still have the same amount left in it that you had when you handed it off. Still needs further testing just to be sure.

3) Pelican Glitch: As of the present time, I still don't know any real way around this except by eliminating all air and ground forces and using the Hornet to attack both Scarabs from the back.

Why do Grenades randomly explode when there on the floor? I mean I killed 2 Brutes in the motor pool, stood on ones corpse and sudddenly his Spike Grenades explode at my feet and I die.

Also, a few times while I'm collecting Plasma Pistols, some of them fall through the floor.

Like on my Successful Covenant run, in the 3rd tower my Carbine sunk into the lift.

Just like my beam rifle on Sierra 117. Inperfect geometry and lazy, unperfected programming is the conclusion I came to. I highly doubt it was intentionally placed in there.

Number 1 reason I get killed in the Motor pool. It get annoying, but you'll get a feel for it of where it's safe to stand.

Or you could use the method I placed in the OP. Yes it takes longer, but in my experience you have a greater chance of success.

Also happened to me. If it gets stuck in the floor, use a grenade. If it sinks, you're sunk, lol.

It doesn't seem to happen nearly as much in the entry-way.

Happened to me to... I recomend placing "X" gun on the glass part of the lift, not the tan metal part. Im not sure but I have never had it get stuck in the glass.

2. I always use the invisibility to get past the Drone / Hunter fight when you enter the last tower. It's the only time I ever need to use equipment in the whole Covenant.

3. In case anyone has trouble killing the first Fule Rod Cannon Cheiftan in the first section after your 3 ODST's have died, you can easily kill him by standing in a glitched spot where you can shoot him and he can't shoot you.

4. If you want to see any of this in action, I think I use most or all of it in my final run of The Covenant, SLASO Style. I will put it in the #3 spot in my file share if anyone wants to take notes.

The glitches certainly do become a pain after awhile. Thank you for posting your suggestions, Ninja.

how tough is that scarab battle at the end? is there an easy way to win, or is there a lot of luck involved?

Ok, I just got to the Motor Pool. And a beserking Brute charged me while shooting me! I PP'd this Brute and he started charging me. Suddenly I realise he had a gun in his hand facing down and he was shooting around the truck at me!! That sucked. Also, I developed a good strategy for the room with the waves of enemies.

I really don't find it that hard. The most effective way to do it, that I find, is to grab a Hornet and hide it behind a ledge for later, then use the Scorpion to blow up all the banshees and all the enemies on top of the Scarab, then take the Hornet, land on top of the first Scarab, blow it up from the inside, grab The Hornet again, get the hell out of there and then do the same for the second Scarab. If you're lucky, while shooting the banshees with the Scorpion, the Scarab on the left will expose it's back. Use this oppurtunity to blow it up if you can.

Yes, this has happened to me to. It will also happen on The Ark if you plasma pistol but do not headshot the Carbine Brute in the first Prowler area.
