Ok, I just got to the Motor Pool. And a beserking Brute charged me while shooting me! I PP'd this Brute and he started charging me. Suddenly I realise he had a gun in his hand facing down and he was shooting around the truck at me!! That sucked. Also, I developed a good strategy for the room with the waves of enemies.

cool. wat is your strategy?

I actually just hang around the top area, but I have no idea what jew man's is.

There is no way I would be able to do this by myself. Especially with freakin' Iron.

Iron is what transforms the game into strategy-based gameplay and pushes it further away from run and gun. I love it :-)

how tough is that scarab battle at the end? is there an easy way to win, or is there a lot of luck involved?

I really don't find it that hard. The most effective way to do it, that I find, is to grab a Hornet and hide it behind a ledge for later, then use the Scorpion to blow up all the banshees and all the enemies on top of the Scarab, then take the Hornet, land on top of the first Scarab, blow it up from the inside, grab The Hornet again, get the hell out of there and then do the same for the second Scarab. If you're lucky, while shooting the banshees with the Scorpion, the Scarab on the left will expose it's back. Use this oppurtunity to blow it up if you can.

interesting. so if you land the hornet on the scarab, it wont fall off?

It will if you don't place it in the right spot. Even then, the Scarab explosion doesn't destroy it.

Hey that's a pretty nice find, Starocean. Never thought about landing it. Where is "the right spot"?

I find that if you land it on the front part just above the doorway going down it usually won't fall off. The scarab will push it upward when it moves in a circle but it stayed on long enough for me to blow it up from the inside and run. I should probably test it a few times though just to find the best way to do it.

Please do. You know I'm a stickler for something that can be repeated ;-)

Also, practice tonight as usual (it's always in the Team CLASO thread in the group).

Tyrant, you deserve a lot of credit firstly for beating the game SLASO, secondly for posting these videos for all of us to see. But your Warthog driving is terrible.

I love insane driving on Covenant. When your driving away from the first tower its downhill, so what ever vehicle your driving it goes faster. Thats how I ended up making my self flash.

At least Arbiter in The Covenant can easily handle the Drones and Brutes with the fuel rod cannon. In the third tower that is. Did anyone read my post on the last page in regards to the "glitch" fixes?

I tried to give Arbiter a Fuel Rod Gun. But I accidently picked up the Chieftan's ammo after getting the FRG from the Weapon Case. So I had to do it without much help from Arbiter. And yes I did reach the glitch fixes.

Have you tested them by any chance? If they work for other people, I will include them in the walkthrough.

Not yet. But I know for a fact, If you kill the first 2 Brutes that charge you in the First Tower, then leave the back 2. Its possible to kill the Chieftan without him charging you. Thats what I did. And he won't use Invicibility. But if he has a Flare, he will use it.

Subject: My Quest for SLASO (Updated 5/22/2008)

Alright! Two missions left. I just beat Crow's Nest.

A while back I mentioned a strategy to make the Motor Pool easier. Well, it worked and you can see it in my Crow's Nest run in my file share. Here's the text version...

When you open the door to the Motor Pool, do not go through it. I repeat, do not step outside. Why? Because that closes the door to the Ops Center.

Now if you're wondering why you would possibly want to go back, keep the following in mind:
- All Drones from the previous area had Plasma Pistols. All those Plasma Pistols are there for you. In my video, I decided to put 14 of them inside the Ops Center and I didn't even need them all.

- There is BR ammo in the Ops Center.

So, it gives you a huge reservoir of ammunition. But that's not all!

From the hallway, you can berserk Brutes and they will eventually follow you to the Ops Center. Shield recovery is good. Just make sure to watch out for those Spike Grenades on the ground. Waste two if you want to be cautious and pick up the dropped ones.

If you don't need shields, then you force a berserking Brute in to a narrow passageway. Easy headshot.

Are there any disadvantages to it? Yeah. The Carbine Brutes are a bit of a nuisance. But they're annoying anyways. So let's look at the pros and cons.

Pros:
Access to extra ammo; less worry about running out.
Enemies will only follow you in to the hallway if berserked. No more worrying about being swarmed.
The area of the Ops Center closest to the door is relatively clear as long as you make sure to move all Marines and barrels aside, allowing for easier evasion of melee attacks from berserking Brutes.
Access to higher ground where the Chieftan can't get you. (e.g. Up on the pipe where the Thunderstorm skull is)

Cons:
Considerably less risky, but seems more time consuming to me.
Carbine Brutes can take shots at you from all the way by the Chieftan.

In regards to the Chieftan, I should note that when he realizes he can't get you, or you're far enough in the Ops Center, he will usually retreat back to the Motor Pool and wait near the truck. This gives you much better odds when dealing with him as you have an escape route which will force the Chieftan to disengage as well as the fact that if you kill Brutes off in the right order, the other Brutes won't be able to fire on you when you come back to the door to get the Chieftan's attention.

However, if you'd rather be watching a visual, like I said...I used this during my run of Crow's Nest, and that video is in my file share.

Wow that was fast! Nice method. I will use that method to complete Crow's Nest. It doesn't really matter if its time consuming as long as its safe and a good method I'll try it.

Also, I'll check out your video :)

Nice work Vince! That actually sounds remarkable similar to the guide I posted in the OP. Read it when you get a chance :-)

And yes, I usually find that to be the better of the two methods.

It's one of the things he is known for. In fact, his runs served as inspiration for my original SLASO run. The man has been doing this for awhile and I still believe he is the first.

I still want to know who was 2nd. But when I finish SLASO, I want to try to shorten my runs.
