I'm not much of a PC expert, and I'm having some trouble and thought maybe someone here could help me out. My dad's a little overly cautious about viruses and stuff, so he's made us all limited accounts in XP. This significantly reduces your abilities with the computer, you can't even install new programs. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way around this, and maybe I could install programs somehow...there's a few things, that I would really like to install, but my dad won't even think about making me an administrator. If anyone knows, help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean...

But I just want to install a multiplayer demo for Soldier of Fortune II, I sold my copy, and I have an itch to play it again. But I don't think it has anything to do with a firewall or a virus scan.

There's no way aroound it other than two ways:
1) Getting administrator access.
2) Getting your own computer.

I suggest #2 because frankly, one computer annoys me for an entire family.

it is not firewall or virus scan, you will need at least Power User rights to install stuff. Will your dad not just install the program under his admin account so you can play it?

btw> with microsoft security you cannot do anything unless you are the admin, or good enough to hack the admin account.

If you know his tendancies towards passwords, you can keep trying till you break into his account, and then you can just make yourself a power user or admin. not that I am supporting you do this.....

Yeah, it's very frustrating and irritating. And I kinda figured there was no way around it, just a hope. Thanks for your help.

What's a power user? I've looked throught the account options while logged on as my dad before, and I've never seen that option.

And I have no idea what his password may be.

Power User is the next best thing to an admin. all of the install rights, but not enough to lock and delete accounts. That is putting it very basically. Like I said, you would need to try and guess his password, the basics of hacking, although i belive that is a forbiddin topic here.

Yeah, it's just that when I've set up accounts before, (I used to be an admin) I never saw an option for this 'Power User.' Is it only in the Home Edition? We have office, so maybe it's different.

r u kidding, i built my computer. you can disable it from teh comman prompt. you probably dont even know what that is.

Then why would you say only "from the command prompt" instead of explaining how it's done? Because you're making it up. And even if you did tell me some steps, I wouldn't follow them, because they would probably just crash my computer. I don't know how jackasses like you get enjoyment out of this -blam!-, it blows my mind.

teh command prompt doesn't exist, THE command prompt does.

learn to spell then you can talk...

just cause you have a command line as a regular user doesn't mean you can just break into the admin account and give yourself rights. and btw, it's not that hard to remove the run command from a standerd user login.
