Whenever playing halo pc, mostly halo custom edition, I get a blue screen of death. After about 10-20 minutes of playing I see a bsod then my pc shuts completely down. I tried unistalling/ reinstalling halo and thought this solved my problem.... but did not.

Have the latest drivers for video card: ATI Radeon X800 Pro
P4 3.2 ghz cpu
1 gb ddr .

stupid question(s)
1. how many watts is your power suply?
2. does your computer actuly shut down, or just stop responding in every way and the screen turns black?

1. More than enough: 600 watt power supply

2. Glimpse of a blue screen of death.
PC Restarts.
Log in and says windows recovered from a fatal error.
Something do with sysdata or something..

plug your graphics card into you power suply; i'm quite sure there is a pot on your card you simply forgot to plug in.
of if not, just turn off specular in halo PC viedo settings

Nope I do not have a virus. 100% sure of that. My card is plugged in to my power supply cuz if it wasn't it wouldn't even run in the first place.

What would turning specular off do?

well, i had a similar problem (which means the same exact thing happened), where whenever i turned on specular, my computer would turn off. it turns out, i was so anxious to put my new grahics card in, i didn't realise my card had an extra slot that should be pluged in directly to the powersuply. my previous card didn't have said slot, so i thought nothing of it.
so yes, your card will still run without the A/c cable connected, but can't do specular effects.
any who, just check on that;i just checked online, and i see that your card does have an A/C slot so just make sure it's pluged in.

Well i just checked it out. It appears to be plugged in to the power supply. So I'm not sure thats the problem. And I get a blue screen after about 20 mins of playing and then it restarts. Is that the same thing that happened to yours? I play with everything set to max on Doom3, Half-Life 2. Nothing seems to be wrong with those, my problem has just been with Halo.

I checked microsoft support and there is something that fits my exact problem there. So i'm going to try those to see if it works. Here's a link to what i'm trying if you are interested:

Thanks for you help.

And I shouldn't have to turn off specular with this high-end card. It's flawless with HL2's amazing gfx. And i have other components in my pc to keep up with it.

by the way I added a quote to my profile. Why isn't it showing up?
