Psi-ops has ragdoll physics, and they look great. Halo 2 should have them too.

if the ragdoll physics were like Rainbow 6 3 that'd be awsome. it seems like the original halo has very weak physics. if your standing on the edge of a floor (like on derilect) and you get shot to death there, and half of your body slumps off the edge. it just looks really bad, like the body gets all stretched.

Blueneb- have you played Riddick or Rainbow Six or Psi Ops? notice how the dead bodys flop around. thats ragdoll physics

Halo should not have ragdoll physics.

Simply put.

I'd bet on Bungie implementing an entirely original and innovative system regarding dead body physics. Halo is a testament to the amount of potential in a group of creative individuals and what they can accomplish in creating something unique and groundbreaking. I simply cannot see these same developers settling for an over-used ragdoll engine.

Edit:

Also, keep in mind that for Halo's time its physics and animations were astounding and still hold up with the best of 'em today. As far as Rainbow Six 3 having great ragdoll physics? I beg to differ - they're clichéd and ultimately boring. I have nothing against RS3 and I do, in fact, own it.

Ragdoll physics just don't seem to fit into the Halo universe nor Bungie's clearly defined sense of style.

I hope you are only refering to the characters like in the example you gave, because Halos physics beyond that is greater than any I know, still.

and may i ask why the hell not! Halo did have weak physics. dead bodies do not flail around while flying thru the air like they did in Halo

How about if they put rag doll physics in, then showed us to see if we like it or not? If we didn't they could just take it out and replace it with their stuff.

I think when your respawn time is up, you should press fire to respawn or something. Like after you blow sky high, you wanna see yourself land right!?!

Your corpse should also be able to slide down hills.

I have to agree.

Guided ragdoll physics (conrolled/predetermined flopping patterns [designed to be cool/funny ahead of time]) though- that I think would be interesting.

I was talkin about the character physics, i love demolition derby with 'hogs to see them fly

But i now that i think about it, i really agree with Byrum and P1acebo. i dont think H2 should have the same type of character physics as R63. Master Cheif doesn't need to do the splits if he lands in a corner dead, like i often see in R 6 3

rainbow six 3 had ragdoll physics. its unbelivable how screwed up it can get. sure, its cool to see diffrent dieing positions, but i dont think this screwy animation is worth it.

I agree with P1acebo. It's just not Bungie's style. Nor Halo's style, for that matter. I do NOT want to see Halo 2 looking like Unreal Tournament in terms of physics. It looks to me like they are working on a relatively realistic physics engine. A realistic physics engine is a must-have in a game with destructible environments. Maybe they should use the Havoc physics engine. Nah...they wouldn't do that. Everything they do is completely original. I must commend them for that.

If you could link us to a page to confirm this, it would be much appreciated, otherwise I cannot take any stock in what you said.

Halo did have a form of Ragdoll physics. Throw a grenade at a marine and he will fly away after it explodes. Now that aint scripted sista! They did it to an over all method and then scripted the movements of the guy as he was flying or falling and what not. Thing is that rag doll physics sometimes look well...kinda normal.
