Either smuggler is a hint at a new map. Or a hint at what will be post Halo 3. Flood somehow escapes from Installation 04 via slipspace, after it was fired in Halo 3.

1. Nice update.
2. Welcome to Bungie Alex, TA's awesome!
3. What was that part, "The Smuggler", all about? Are you guys making a remake of the Halo 2 map Containment? Because that talk about the containment area, 2401 Penitent Tagent, and the hostile species did remind me of it since it had the wall containing the Flood.

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

Alex Pfeiffer, you have an excellent taste in games.

Total Annihilation and Half-Life 2 are the games I would consider the gold standards for their genres.

Sorry Bungie, the Halo series are an amazing part of the FPS genre. But Half-Life 2 is the best of the best.

the updates are better, but the bungie fav's are still, choosing one person at a time as it looks for somebody called Mr Vociferous is seen a lot on the fav's recently, i know that if everyone could send in there pictures into bungie fav's it would be chaos. But i have also noticed Mr Vociferous pictures has had some recon armour in them. So in this week's update says people don't get recon for being on the fav's, so this is my question, how did this person get recon? if they are a bungie staff member, sorry but come on give some other people a chance to get on the fav's.
Most of the pictures on bungie fav's have only about a 4 star rating, but have an amazing amount of downloads, i do admit the elite killer was good, but i have a pic, over 100 downloads now and has a 5 star rating, im not advertising but its already on the files forum http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=20550993 but come on its funny, and people like funny, not people showing off to people what they will never get (recon if you were thinking) so if you have read all this, what do you think?

Zerogreenchief is eh pretty cool guy, eh trolls people and doesn't afraid of anything.

What was the Smuggler nonsense about?

  • 05.31.2008 5:42 PM PDT

huh, back to halo 2... sounds like fun

  • 05.31.2008 5:52 PM PDT

I wish I was still legendary.

that smuggler bit is creepy. lets make a group about it!

  • 05.31.2008 6:18 PM PDT

761 armless & legless corpses float inconspicuously around the inside of hangar 96. I say they are inconspicuous because it is their arms & legs which demand my attention. I did this, or I could have stopped it. Which is it? It doesn't matter now. I did this and could have stopped it, but nothing in nature ever follows a Gaussian curve. Sure, they'll tell you it does. They say every 5 minutes someone dies in a car accident, but how often are there 761 armless and legless corpses in one hangar?

My deciphering of the Smuggler bit:

2401 Penitent Tangent, at its last known location, was rampant, and in the clutches of the Gravemind. The destruction of Installation 04, as shown from 343 Guilty Spark's survival from Halo 1, would not be enough to destroy an important enough Forerunner artifact as a Monitor; and the lighting of a ring wouldn't even affect a non-sentient A.I. In Halo 2's ending, Delta Halo was never actually lit: it misfired, and nothing more was said about the Flood on it.
Most people have completely forgotten or disregarded the fate of Delta Halo. However, what actually did happen to the Flood? It is ridiculously unlikely that they would send all their available ships to combat: they would most likely try to infect more beings. With control of High Charity, the Flood are undoubtedly left with unrestricted access to data banks containing the locations of all their planets. And the beings on them.
In the case of 2401 Penitent Tangent, it is probable that it's fate went along the same lines as Mendicant Bias. As Tangent wasn't as advanced as Bias, it didn't even take as long for Gravemind to convince it to join the Flood. This leaves the Flood in a powerful position: in control of multiple Covenant forces (and a crashed human one), with a Forerunner installation, complete with its' Monitor.

Why are you all convinced the Fight is Finished?

Nice update ^^... WtF was the last bit about.. I got to that and started analysing four hundred different meanings to what that could've been about and i came to the conclusion that all of those four hundred reasons were WRONG. So I came to a second conclusion. I'VE MISSED SOMETHING?!? AND by the looks of it.. something big o.O

If 2401 is a year , 2512332 hours = 290 days

So 2401 - 290 = 2111 ??!
More like 286.79 years.

Smuggler is one of the 3 new maps being prepared for release.

From the Weekly Update 5/23:
Upon returning, Smuggler has become a picture perfect nearly majestic play space with sinister undertones. Pristine construction is foiled by a staunch reminder of how often the best laid plans can fail.

Sounds like a Forerunner containment facility that has been taken over by the Flood. Expect a mix of Forerunner architecture combined with Isolation like Flood infection terrain....286 years worth of infection.

Thanks for digging that up! Clearing the air about an ARG. With that being said, awesome update & hopefully we will get some campaign stuff or co-op stuff soon too, I mean Halo 3 still has 250 gamerpoints untapped! ;)

The Cutting Edge<-- the best halo community on bnet
Eroding Pixels <-- My portfolio
The Custom Experience <-- the best halo community off of bnet

horrible update it is really hurting the forging groups that are keeping custom games alive by bumping maps that have been worked hard on and keeping those maps that have been not changed one bit.

CHANGE IT BACK!!

R.I.P. Halo 2 11/9/04-4/15/10
If you havn't played Halo 2 online than you are missing so much. Plus if you have played a good amount of Halo 2 online, I might have a better chance of listening to anything you say.

hopefully we can get pics of the new maps this month.

-"Wake me when you need me."-

I was thinking just that. The flood would still remain in control of Delta Halo, and even though the gravemind has been killed, surely another one could just form? The elites no longer have a large fleet defending Delta Halo, so it would be very easy for the Flood to be able to break out. Maybe there really is no way to stop the Flood except by lighting the rings, and people retreating to the Shield (which I am sure is what u see at the end of halo on legendary! Which also means next time we meet chief he could well just happen to bump into the other surviving spartans who are in the shield during these events (Ghosts of Onyx))...maybe this whole split from microsoft, and Frankie leaving to work directly with mgs is just trying to distract us that Bungie are still working on the next Halo game, I mean, they've done a pretty damn good job so far why would Microsoft move to else where now?

-"Wake me when you need me."-

...or it could just be a new map...but I like my theory more :P

Someone finally gets to an interesting point. I doubt that when a compound mind finally forms (Gravemind) and with all of its memories seemingly intact, it decides that it'll concentrate all of its efforts on attacking Master Chief and the Arbiter. It has control of slip space technology. My guess is that the moment gravemind could, it began hurling flood pods in every direction of space possible, if not raining them down on covenant and human worlds with the data it collected from human and covenant ships. And btw, who has evidence that the arc was destroyed? When halos are lit, they only affect organic life. For all we know, the arc is still infected with flood, as well as delta halo and there are pieces from the halo 1 ring also floating around.

Relating this to the update, I would like to think that the smuggler part may relate to a new map, but also to something else in the future. Good update!

Video games don't affect children

If PacMan had affected us as kids then we'd all be running around in dark rooms, gobbling up magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music......

...... Been to a rave lately?

I hate these teasers

lol math. 2401 is the year like as in.... the year 2401 as in 393 years from now

I liked the update, the new features on Bungie.net are nice, I'm not a huge proponent of the BR anyways, welcome Alex and yes TA ROCKS OUT LOUD. Interested to see what Smuggler is about, personally not ready for another ARG after all the sweat blood and tears of Iris for nothing in return. We'll just have to wait and find out
