just bought Halo Combat Evolved because I had never played it and I like Halo 3 so much so I figured...what the heck.
This is easily one of the top 5 worst games ever.
-The assault rifle is useless and takes 1/2 hour to reload
-The ghost handles like -blam!-
-You can't aim and drive at the same time with the tank (how retarded is that)
-It takes 150 bullets to kill an elite
-The pistol has that stupid flip toss animation after each melee
-There are like 75 hunters on each level
-You can't even freaking change your controller settings in mid game...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
-Turrets and vehicle weapons have HORRIBLE aim.
-and the list goes on for miles
This game was so highly praised that I can't believe how bad it is. It's mind boggling how terrible this game is. All I can say is thank you Bungie for seeing the THOUSANDS of flaws in this game and fixing them by the time you got to Halo 3.
What a waste of $10
Ps. The pistol has zoom! Were the Bungie developers drunk when they made this game?
Angry rant concludedI don't know where to begin, so I'll start with a list:
1. How the Hell can you play Halo 3 without playing the first two games? The storyline is an absolute mess to players new to the Halo franchise.
2. Yes, the assault rifle is useless, but the pistol is the best weapon in the game. It's ironic how the pistol is so powerful it takes the role of a main assault weapon and how the AR is relegated as a back up weapon, but it works.
3. Who needs boost? The Ghost is fine the way it is.
4. Um, last time I checked, you can actually shoot and drive the tank at the same time, the controls are just different.
5. Actually, it takes just a few with the pistol.
6. The pistol flip whip is the greatest animation ever. Way more interesting than just a smack from the bottom of the magazine.
7. Seventy-five Hunters? I know you're exaggerating but there were only over twenty Hunters in the first game, and you just need one shot to the back with a pistol, making them one of the easiest enemies to kill. I was disappointed that Halo 3 didn't have as many Hunters.
8. Halo came out in 2001. That was seven freaking years ago. Halo 3 has plenty of conveniences we take for granted today, but that's not a fair comparison.
9. Aside from the tank's secondary machine gun and the Shade turrets, they're all quite accurate and deadly.
10. Please, continue with your list so I may give a rebuttal. :)
Like I mentioned in #8, the game came out in 2001, damn it. I wouldn't expect you to appreciate it considering you never played it for such a long time. The first Doom and Quake games were considered great, but no one would expect someone who has never played it before to be impressed over such outdated gameplay and graphics. I can't emphasize enough on this.
However, the game wasn't that amazing to begin with. I love my Halo but it's so over rated; it was simply an above-average shooter that had an innovation here and there, but it wasn't revolutionary or that outstanding. It was just a solid shooter, not the critically acclaimed title that everyone likes to over rate. By the way, Bungie also made a bunch of more flaws in order to remove the ones from the first game (and that's for an entirely different argument).
Finally, the pistol's zoom owns everything. Halo was more impressive to me in 2001 than Halo 3 was in 2007.
