Since everyone else is taking the time to counter his arguments, I thought that I would join in.
-"The assault rifle is useless and takes 1/2 hour to reload" Yes, the assault rifle is generally considered to be the most worthless weapon in Halo 1. Just substitute it with the more accurate plasma rifle. And if you absolutely must use the AR, firing in short bursts works wonders, especially at medium range.
- "The ghost handles like -blam!-" I know that the ghost may seem to be more "slippery" in movement than it's H2 and H3 counterparts, but it really isn't that difficult to drive.
- "You can't aim and drive at the same time with the tank (how retarted is that)" It's been a while since I've driven a tank in Halo: CE, but I thought you could. Strafing might be a bit more difficult, but I haven't had a problem dodging fire and killing the enemy with the tank.
-"It takes 150 bullets to kill an elite" Again, burst fire helps a lot. On Heroic difficulty, I can usually kill an Elite Minor at medium range and still have anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 a magazine left if I fire in bursts of 3 to 5 rounds. If you're using a pistol, it should only take about 1/2 of a clip to kill an Elite Minor on Heroic.
-"The pistol has that stupid flip toss animation after each melee" How could you not love that animation? I miss it. Why did you take it out of Halo 2 and 3, Bungie? Why? :(
-"There are like 75 hunters on each level" If I remember correctly, the level that had the most Hunters was Silent Cartographer, which had 6. Compared to the Hunters in Halo 2 and 3, the Hunters in Halo: CE are very easy. If they see you, simply run up close to the Hunter (dodging fire as you go, which shouldn't be difficult), then let him charge you. When he tries to melee you, side step. He'll charge right past you, and his orange back should be exposed. Fire one pistol or sniper round into his back and he'll collapse. Easy.
-"You can't even freaking change your controller settings in mid game...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" This has been stated before, but Halo came out in 2001. I think the reason you hate the game is because you started playing it with modern shooter expectations.
-"Turrets and vehicle weapons have HORRIBLE aim." The Scorpion machine gun does, but everything else is fine. The Warthog turret may not be quite as accurate as those in Halo 2 and 3, but it is still a beast of a weapon. Even at longer ranges, it could cut down infantry and light vehicles with ease.
-"and the list goes on for miles" Please post them. I'm enjoying this. :)
You should have started playing the game with lower expectations. The game is 7 years old, so of course it's going to be outdated in some ways. But if you don't expect the game to have the level of quality that modern shooters have going into Halo, you're going to have a great time. When I played Marathon: Durandal when I downloaded it from XBLA, I didn't expect modern graphics and gameplay that come with shooters these days when I started playing, and I absolutely loved it. Your impossible expectations probably ruined an otherwise great experience.
