Also, I just don't like the overall attitude of the gamers of Halo. The majority of them are cocky, 13-16 year old dicks who think they are the best in the world and either are not, in which case the trash talking is heavy, or they are, where the trash talk is even worse.
*Note: I feel your pain. I am so tired of the individuals who take joy in trash talking those that are not of a parallel skill to their own (or better for that matter; *coughsoreloserscough*).*
All I can say there is take advantage of the player review system. Avoid them for the appropriate reason and let the system do its thing. Psychologically, it may be hard, but do your best to ignore those immature people who act a fool. Their trash is only as harsh as how you react to it. At one point, you may even find it somewhat funny to see their petty attempts to put you down as you remain unaffected by their taunts.

Finally, I am unmotivated to succeed at the game. I have reached Colonel Grade 2. The last few times I played Halo, I went on fairly good LW sprees. I know how the ranks work, but I have been playing for a 41 for over three months now. I lost my desire to play the game when I realized that my skill had nowhere to go. I am attracted to Call of Duty where my rank continues to rise, and I am constantly motivated to achieve. In Halo, it is "If I win a few HUNDRED times, I get a bar under my three stars!" whereas in COD, "If I kill this many people in combination with my challenges and match bonus, I'll get this awesome gun!" "If I get this many headshots, I'll get new camo for my gun!" I get the objective of the TrueSkill system, but although it is a fair reminder of skill, it kills my motivation to play the game.
*Note: I am not trying to undermine your choice of reward. I am only clarifying what I believe is why it is a good how it is.*
I have Call of Duty 4, and I understand how you gain various guns, perks, and camos every time you achieve certain goals.
The thing is though, while you are the high ranked player with all the choices of guns and perks (along with your experience from playing the game a while and familiarizing yourself with each map), you have an even bigger advantage over newbies that choose to play.
