Some of you might remember my thread I posted ages ago on the Bungie forums that had about 50 pages worth of replies, a 90% agreement in the poll for a new patch and I wrote about 5 pages worth of things that should be patched in Halo 2 for a 1.2 patch. Well, Bungie the great developer they are completely ignored it and never gave it an official response despite the fact it was one of the largest threads on their forums at the time, instead they decided to answer the same lame questions in their Bungie weekly updates every week such as "Where is the Golden Warthog?"

Well hopefully Bungie will actually listen to us this time. Here goes.

Ability to stack powerups: Currently you are unable to stack powerups which is just an absurd gameplay flaw, why Bungie thought this was a smart idea is beyond me, but it should be fixed. If you pick up an OS then a camo, you appear camo but you're flashing like a giant light bulb, however, since you're invisible, other players can't auto aim on you. If you pick up a camo then an OS your camo power up stops working and others can auto aim on you. If you manage to pickup both powerups, don't you DESERVE both the powerups?

Option to disable tips: Ok, in Slayer we have to kill the enemy and in CTF we have to capture the flag. That's great, but do we need to be reminded how to play the game every time we load the map? The tips aren't little bits of text in the corner of the screen, they appear in a giant blue box that takes up half the screen. More annoying is the tips that remind me how to dual wield. I understand Bungie wanted to aim this game at everyone, ranging from grandmothers to your pet dog, but can those of us who know how to play please have the option of disabling this useless feature?

Weapon pallet in Forge: Can Bungie let US decide what weapons we want on our maps? There's some maps I'd like to put Carbines on, but Bungie won't let me. Why? I can understand Bungie had to limit the amount of objects on maps for various reasons, but I'm pretty sure letting me put a Carbine on a few maps won't make my 360 overheat and explode.

Touch return: For some reason touch return isn't TOUCH return. Why? Who knows, but it's lame and it needs to be fixed. CTF is currently broken and I'd go as far as to say UNPLAYABLE. I'm not sure about you guys, but I think being able to return the flag by running above it when the flag is UNDERGROUND is an insanely ridiculous gameplay flaw and the fact that this managed to get by Bungie's game testers really makes me worry about the future of this planet and its inhabitants.

Powerups: Bungie thought it would be more appealing to the kids if they changed the powerups from little objects on the ground into enormous glowing energy balls that take up half the map. Ok, whatever, I can live with that. But WHY did they make it so you can't shoot through them? Currently I have Forged Narrows and positioned a Camo powerup on the middle bridge on the lower level. Cool huh? It's in a nice spot in between both bases. But there's a bit of a problem when your trying to shoot at someone on the opposite side of the bridge with a massive glowing ball in front of you, besides hindering your aiming ability, you can't even shoot the person and grenades will bounce off it.

Hitboxes: The autoaim/hit boxes in Halo 3 still leave a lot to be desired. Bungie should either lower the autoaim/make hit boxes smaller or give us the option to lower autoaim when making gametypes. Maybe let us put it on 75/50%

Flag throwing: The flag throwing is one of the things that set Halo apart from other games. Remember watching the old videos of TDT on BC capturing a flag in 7 seconds because of their awesome flag setup where they'd throw the flag up to the top of the base, run it through the teleporter and throw it up on top of their base? Well Bungie obviously thought that gave good players too much advantage over bad kids so they removed it. Perhaps give us the option to reduce the flag weight or something.

Red reticle distance: Bungie, fix the BR and Carbine so we don't have to zoom in every shot just to make sure the shots connect. It doesn't matter if you're aiming at someone's temple, if your reticle isn't red there's a high chance most shots won't hit. The Pistol in Halo 1 would hit players fine from the other side of Hang Em High, now in Halo 3 half the bullets won't connect from one side of Guardian to the other. Halo 2 also had this problem, why wasn't it fixed?

Melees: In Halo 1 if you stood still and melee it would do weak damage, a running melee would do moderate damage and a jumping melee would do the most damage. In Halo 3 Bungie decided this was another thing good players would take advantage over so they screwed the entire melee system up. It only takes 2 melees to kill someone, there is no damage variation and one melee takes off an entire shield.

Apparently when 2 players melee each other at the same time with low shields, the player with the most health will prevail. ALWAYS. Ummmm, why? Why not reward the fastest player? If both players melee at almost exactly the same time, here's an idea - BOTH players should die. That's how it is in every other game and that's how it should be. In Halo 1 there were many moments both players would die at the same time, for some reason Bungie thought this balance was a bad idea and removed it in Halo 2 and 3.

Sword/Hammer delay: The Sword and Hammer is now useless against good players. Sure, Bungie n00bs can run around with their Swords out advertising it to the world and get some kills against bad kids, but when it comes to good players, if you advertise your Sword/Hammer you're a massive target saying "SHOOT ME" and no one is dumb enough to go near you. If you hide it until you're ready to use it, say on a player coming around the corner, there's no way to pull it out in time to get a kill. The Sword isn't even a power weapon anymore, hell, the Mauler is better than the Sword.

Sniper delay: The delay between Sniper shots feels like an eternity. Seeing multi kills with it is now rare. Getting those clutch no scopes is almost impossible because in a close range situation you can barely fire off one shot before getting killed. The delay between shots should be the same as Halo 2.

Overshield: The OS in Halo 3 is a joke. Not only are you a giant fluorescent target running around shining like a light bulb, the OS is also weak as hell. Why did Bungie reduce the effectiveness? Now, we can make our own custom powerup, which is cool because we can make a Halo 1 OS by giving it 5 second duration, invulnerability and 3X's shield. But we shouldn't have to. The OS should be brought back to Halo 1 style, then we could use the custom powerup for something else such as increased speed or increased damage.

Toggle shield doors: Give us the option to toggle shield doors in Forge.

Explosives: I'd like the option to remove ALL explosives from the maps, those fusion coils that respawn on the walls are extremely annoying.

Description: When editing game types, when you save changes it deletes your description. This doesn't seem to happen for Forged map variants, only game types. Not too big of an issue, but still annoying when you just want to change something simple and quickly, then you have to re-enter your description.

Spectator mode: Apparently it was in the Beta but Bungie removed it. Why? Near all FPS on PC have it and it's a great option. Especially for 1 vs 1, you can have players spectating, the winner plays on and the loser switches places.

Custom game list: This would be great, especially for players outside North America who find it hard to get players at certain times of the day for a custom game. Bungie didn't include this because they want to FORCE US to play match making. The think players won't play match making and it'll take longer to find games. Well GOOD! If players want to play customs over MM let them. I don't know why Bungie wants us to play the game their way.

Dedicated servers: Every multiplayer game on PC since Quake 1 has an option for dedicated servers. I can't think of a multiplayer game on PC that doesn't have this option, many games on Xbox also have this option, some of the first ever games on Xbox Live had this option such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Unreal Championship. Halo 3 would benefit so much from dedicated servers.

I'm not talking about dedicated servers for MM, or dedicated servers run by Bungie, I'm talking about being able to setup our own Xbox's as dedicated servers. This would get rid of host advantages and it would be awesome for online competitions and tournaments to make sure players are on a level playing field and aren't cheating. Bungie should be ashamed of themselves for excluding such a simple option that would give the game so much more potential.

These would run off a map/gametype cycle and companies with fast internet connections such as ISP's would host servers which gives the ability for bigger games with more players.

Rockets: If someone shoots me with a RL next to me, they should die as well. I'm sick of people using the RL like it's a shotgun. In Halo 1, the splash damage was huge. This meant you had to be careful with the RL and make sure you're far enough away from your target so you wouldn't kill yourself. This was perfect. In Halo 3 you can pretty much shoot someone point blank in the face with it and lose a bit of shield. That's ridiculous. Players should be punished for being careless with the RL.

Shotgun: The shotgun range should be increased a tiny bit, right now it really doesn't have an advantage over the Mauler and it still seems inconsistent at point blank range.

You are so right DAMN I LOVE THIS PYROTEQ

Cull the playlists - specifically DLC, Multi Team and Rocket Race, and make all Objective gametype playlists legendary required. Being able to lower your weapons over live would be nice too - it would dramatically increase the quality of machinimas and would allow creation of some very nice screens.

Different variants of each map in matchmaking, ie- different weapons and vehicles

Firebomb grenades in matchmaking

  • 06.04.2008 8:04 AM PDT

big deal, wanna PHIte about it?

These suggestions are sincere and intended to prolong the life of the game series I have come to love, Halo. I truly believe that this franchise is in trouble if it is unable to regain what made the last two games great. These suggestions are not un-realistic, so hoplefully they will be taken seriously. Suggestions are given in order of importance:

-fix spawning: not sure how, but at least an H2 spawning system please
-reduce BR spread: enough said, every competitve player agrees
-MORE SYMETRICAL/ARENA STYLE MAPS!!!! You claim to know we need them, but where are they?????
-return objective options back to H2 style: Flag returns, Bomb arming indicators, etc
-enable ability to spawn with more weapons: specifically the carbine
-fix custom overshield glitch that makes it not work right unless the player has full shields

Thanks to Bungie for asking players their opinions. Please take them to heart and try and save this game and return it to the top of the XBL titles, where it belongs.

- Halo 2 Grenade Reload "Glitch" as an actual feature in the game, like GOW's quick reload
- Sniper More Accurate at 5x
- Team Snipers Playlist that doesn't include, Lasers, King of the Hill, Pistols, Camo and Shotguns
- Fix the "Preparing" screen that shows in theater for 5 minutes when watching a cut-out clip with a friend
- A Few New Campaign Levels (Not after the final mission, just inbetween previous levels)
- More Achievements
- Future maps to have smooth textures and not over detailed with things everywhere to get stuck on
- Hit Percentage/Bullets Shot In Post-Game Stats

I think that certain actions should take priority over others. For instance, trying to hijack a vehicle should take prtority over picking up weapons and equipment. Then picking up the oddball, bomb, or flag, should have priority over picking up weapons and equpment. There is nothing more annoying than picking up the wrong thing and having to sit and try to pick up the right weapon or a weapon rather than a bubble shield.

Dislike cheese? I dislike you.

Well i think that Bungie does a really great job, listening to the community. So with that being said. the only thing i have a problem with is, playing the same maps. so what im proposing is that they change the veto system. instead of loading a map then vetoing. why not having a choice of three maps. the maps will coraspond to X, Y, and B. on the controller. and the maps with the most votes loads up and we play it. The other thing i would like to see is increasing the number of times the LEgendary maps show up in Team Slayer. thank you for making this thread. -Tony

FTW!!
Also, I would like to see a little more variety in the grenades on the maps. I would like to see the ability to have more than just two types of grenades on the maps. This does include the incindiery grenade which I think doesn't cause lag. (I haven't seen it and my freinds and I use them in custom games all the time) Which brings up the questions: "I can has maor flamthrower" & "I can has fuel rod bazooka???" I have heard that the reason the FRC isn't in matchmaking because it causes lag as well. Once again, I'm yet to see it. Finally, my last request is a permanent infection hopper. I less than three it. Thank you for all you have done, bungie, you roksoks. That doesn't mean that I don't still wish I could have a .44 revolver though. I guess downloadable weapons would work, would it?

  • 06.04.2008 8:07 AM PDT

"Check it to the end."
- Sniper Spade

Choice of ALL weapon startouts. To bring back H2 Snipes.(If it can happen in random, why not have the choice?)

To rewind and clip in a Campaign film

More than one Double XP playlist a week? {to give the community a choice}

Specter > Prowler. Bring it back.

Change the shotgun vs. shotgun factor so that both will die instead of one person being lucky

i agree, play lists such as big team social have 4 times the players as ranked big teams, the social play lists drain many players from ranked.

My GT is actually lockepyker - somehow I got linked with my g/f's tag...so that should answer your first question.
Since you're here, take time to visit my file share. I mean, I have beach grifball in there - and you know you want some of that . Thanks!
See you in the rumble pit!
~LockePyker~

My ideas for improvement:
2 palettes in forge. Remember how in the old maps you could place "useless" objects like computers and other small, decorative items? Those sorts of things are totally missing on the new maps. I suggest having a Gameplay palette, with your standard shield doors,ect...and a 'Decorative' palette with smaller items less likely to be used during gameplay. The ability to switch between these palettes would be awesome. How many machinima artists out there agree? Wouldn't it be nice to decorate the maps for machinima? This would be like putting props on the set, ya know?

Also I'd like to see less snipers in the slayer playlists. Make snipers its' own list so that those who like it can always go play w/e they want, and the rest of us don't have to listen to them. Please.

Supposedly this problem is already being addressed, but DLC Objective is 99% Avalanche. It's a cool map, but so is Ghost Town and I don't think I've played more than 10 games on GT. Come on, mix it up a bit.

Lastly, how about when you've earned enough exp you get promoted to higher levels? This might cause a surge in boosting, but I've played >4,000 games, and since I don't think I'll ever hit that 45, there won't be a reason for me to be playing much longer. Except for new maps, which are always cool.
These are my only ideas for improvements, overall H3 is far superior to anything else out there. I can't wait to see what you guys do next....

The less than a second latency of online play is a better system to play off of than more health.

You realize this system is just as host based, right? because if you're fighting host, or someone with a better connection to host, and you each start firing at the same time, his BULLETS will register first, giving him slightly more health if the melees happen at the same time.

So would you rather have the BS of both, or just one?

-HaVOk1228

I would honestly like to see the AR be made more effective afar and less so up close. Right now if you are not host for some reason getting shots to land past twenty feet or so becomes an exercise in futility. I don't mean that I want it to be more accurate while in full auto mode (heck no they could easily make it less spammy by going back and making it scatter even worse while firing for extended durations of time) but when you take your time and fire in single or the closest thing to single shot (pulling and releasing the trigger force upon you two bullets to be released, the second one is never right down the center, you know, that place which is likely where you are aiming if you are trying to hit something afar). So either fix the trigger release resulting in a second shot issue or make that second bullet dead on accurate like the first. It will not do a thing to make it more potent in spammy firing but it would make big maps, or heck even any maps have the AR as a viable option as opposed to automatically fleeing to the safety of the BR in every situation.
If it were not for the fact that the AR already has such a shallow magazine, having this forced lost shot of this forced two shot burst would not be so bad, but having to operate with only half of an already restricted amount of ammo means that trying to the use the AR past full auto spam range becomes rather punishing as you try to foolishly pulse the trigger and eventually reload before your foe rushes up and just empties his magazine on full auto. Or worse yet you get rapidly torn to death by someone screaming how much of a newb you are for trying to use some self control on an AR in "near single shot mode" as he rapidly sprays and lands torrents of BR fire that scatter all around you as he hopes and prays for one oddly placed bullet to find your scull. Which would not be so bad if perhaps attaining a head shot with the BR meant you had to physically aim at the head (simply aiming for the center of mass with the BR both gets you your freak head shot once the shields are drained and the ability to spam wildly with high weapon effect while striking the torso).

Bleh that rant went on for a while and I apologize for the blatant nagging going on in it but I figure if bungie is asking, why not. I do have other requests for change though they parallel a number of the other requests here and I do not wish to spam. Besides, even if they are actually using this to draw up inspiration on how to change the game I doubt they would go so far as to try to try and make their ideal medium range weapon and actual medium range weapon (right now it is just a big bully up close being more powerful at spamming than the weapons that can only spam, and an airy nothing afar unless once again acting like a bully towards the even shorter ranged weapons).

EDIT:
"i agree, play lists such as big team social have 4 times the players as ranked big teams, the social play lists drain many players from ranked."

-Perhaps the lesson to be taken from this is that much more of the population either plays with buddies or enjoys easier going social games. With playing on the internet it is impossible to find a way to play true tournament style clashes of skilled players. Every player is either enhanced or hindered by the fact that playing online introduces lag (be it major or minor) into the game and thus makes the game always somewhat host/ superior connection bias. Thus two players of equal skill could clash and the major deciding factor in the duel could be the fact that player A has bullets that are firing when he sees/ knows they are firing and player B is left in the dust by those seemingly insignificant milliseconds. There is a reason game tournaments take place in lan settings, and it is not just to make sure that restricted modifications are not being used.
Anyhoo, perhaps social matches really o just hod so much more for the gaming masses. You say they rob ranked games of players but doesn't that just mean that people don't want to play those ranked games? I don't bother to check the numbers of players so I can't say for certain but based on what you have said it seems that bungie's premier efforts of matchmaking lose players to more free social games. Now is this not an interesting development, considering they chose to banish custom game access you could get from an open custom game server list in fear that it would keep players away from their precious matchmaking jumble. Especially with how frequent jumps into social games (especially big team social) are simply used to recruit players for custom games.

The Rocket are another thing i don't like i shot the rockets close to people and they dont die while i can be across the map and a little explosion kills me. these are probably the only complaints i have there probably more but im half asleep.

I think it would be great if on the website, Bungie made a page describing each of the playlists, descriptions of any changes on maps from default (such as the modified 1v1 maps), with links to the maps and gametypes.

I think it's impossible, but I miss the Halo 2-style Territories. That was awesome.

In Juggernaut, is it possible to register who is the new juggernaut a bit faster? I hate having to wait and watch until the marker appears over the new juggernaut.

I'm a fan of the less popular gametypes King of the Hill, Oddball, VIP, Juggernaut, and so on. It would be nice if there was a way to make these gametypes played more.

How about using some new gametype and map combinations, and some new gametypes in general? For example, how about some 1-sided gametypes on Construct? 3-ball on Guardian? Infection games that aren't designed from the swords-vs-shotguns perspective? I think an infection game where everyone started with snipers could be a lot of fun. I'd love a swords-vs-shotguns variant of Slayer. It was one of my favorite gametypes during Halo 2 LANs.

How about some modified maps to try out? Try repopulating a map from a different perspective. I made a modified version of Construct that used teleporters and gravity lifts to increase movement and mobility between the upper and lower floors, which I thought could be pretty fun. How about using some of the community Forge maps (or modified versions of them, at least)?

Hey, thx for visiting my profile, enjoy!!!
If you need help with anything at all, just PM me or send me a message over Xbox Live, kk??
See ya 'round

1.Sniper playlist definatly

2.Outside foundry with tons of walls to make landscapes or greatly size increased foundry with more items

3.new items for forge that give details to the map, like bars, steam tons, blood spray, wall paints/shapes or themes just something like that.

4.more playlist to chose from for example: team snipers, team shotties, team BRs, team ARs, big team infection (ranked 16 players), medium team infection (ranked 12 players), team rockets, team splayers, team control (bring back, just for the fans out there).

5.game-finder if possible would be awesome.

And that's it, just 5 things, major applause for bungie making halo3 so great and yes we all know lag is out there to take bungie's reputation down, they can't do anything about lag its impossible. Again GREAT job bungie, thx for listening, the persister2.

I am pretty new to the whole XBOX world, but the number of custom their gametypes and quality really shows the creativity of all of the players.

My suggestion is:

Create a rotating slot in the social playlists that changes to a different gametype every week or two. Include Griffball, Infection, etc.......

Maybe even a player showcase list that includes custom gametypes or maps submitted by players (of cours giving them credit). If they are not getting much play then switch to a new one and if they are, then let the creator bask in the glory of entertaining thousands gamers.

You could even do a players choice, where players could vote each week on what gametype they want to see.

I just think this would really get some players involved and think, "Hey, I didn't make this gametype/map.............but I can make it a hell of a lot better." Things would just get better from there.

Thanks Bungie

one more thing that needs improvement is DLC content .....redesigne the older maps from halo 1,2 add to play lists and take parts of the missions from all three halos and make maps from them DlC for the next three years any one ??????? and last thing needs improve ment is hiring me as idea developement come on any good ideas used give me lil cash for lol

I think this would be a great thread for you guys at bungie to check out, there are alot of smart posts about what can improve this game by people who have been playing Halo for a long time. Off the top of my head here are some of the things I would like to see fixed:
- Br Spread: I like the fact that it is harder to aim then the halo 2 br with less auto aim and magnetism but I do feel that this weapon is sometimes a bit inconsistent (srry for sp) even on LAN.
- OS problem (custom power-up): You should be able to pick up the OS when your shields aren't full.
- Maps: This is the big one for me, the Halo 3 maps leave something to be desired. The Halo 1 and 2 maps are a million times better then the current Halo 3 maps, maps like Chillout, Beaver Creek, Midship, Warlock were pretty amazing maps in Halo 3 In my opoin there are two decent maps (not great just decent) and those are the Pit and Construct (Maybe). I think the two biggest reasons halo 3 maps fail is one the unecessary detailed walls making it impossible to get grenades where you want them (plus wtf is up with grenades going off of dead bodies) this pretty much killed blackout. The second thing is the size of the maps they are all huge, we need some more small arena style maps that aren't made so you can drive warthogs on them we already have enough of those.
-Lastly Spawns - there messed up sometimes.
