I'll try to make mine short since I know you have so many responses.

1. Better double experience playlists. Namely, Team Snipers more often. It is honestly the fairest playlist out of the bunch. The spawning system fails super hard during rocket games. :/

2. Team Snipers in general. That playlist would be great.

3. I personally think that the Head to Head playlist needs to be redone. When I think of 1v1's, I think of something competitive. There's absolutely NOTHING competitive about having fusion cores scattered about all of the maps. What's the point of crouching behind cover to avoid bullets when there's an explosive less than a foot away? Also, when it comes to the actual games, can we have it so that during games with no radar there is also no waypoint? It's incredibly unfair for the person winning. Also, using a system that balances host better would work. Currently it seems as if the host can shoot across the map while off-host can't. Also not fair. My main problem with Head to Head is the way the maps themselves are done though. PLEASE remove the fusion cores. They should be non-existent. Instead of giving players kills because their grenade landed close enough to a core, you could give players kills because they learned how to bank grenades off of walls properly.

Last complaint about the maps: Why are there so many damned swords? In maps with a sniper rifle (such as Guardian or Blackout), there should only be ONE weapon that can counter it, such as the mauler (since it's the weakest of the close-range power weapons on host). There shouldn't be one sniper rifle, and then two maulers, a shotgun, and a sword on the map.

I realize that you guys try to engineer your gametypes and maps toward the casual player, but do you think you could make it SLIGHTLY more competitive? Also, no camo and OS on 1v1 maps. It makes the maps too unbalanced. If you are interested in what I think about the Head to Head playlists, feel free to message me back and I could forge some maps that would be a bit more balanced, and I would do my best to fix the gametype too. Thanks.

I think the option for having a little more say in map variety in matchmaking would be nice, plus it would be nice to see more heavy variants of maps appeared in RBTB o and please put some more flame based weapons in, its nice torching people on construct but i could see it being used on other maps.

Betrayal Booting glitches up sometimes. During play I once accidentally killed a fellow player. My brother ended up getting booted for my accidental betrayal. This occured while we were both riding in a Warthog.

I've seen a sniper glitch occur on a LAN game in which the headshot did not register. Most people blame this on lag, but since this was a LAN game it is questionably a glitch.

Magnum damage seems a bit low imo. The magnum has a slow rate of fire, and only 8 shots, with a 5 shot kill. Perhaps changing the magnum to 4 shots a kill will promote use, and allow for at least two kills per clip.

The Plasma Pistol is another weapon which seems underused. Thank you for toning down the homing capabilities from Halo 2. Sadly, I believe you forgot to make up for the weaker homing capabilities leading to the current lack of use for the poor Plasma Pistol. I am a strong believer in the old Halo CE motto that every weapon should stand on it's own. IMO a good way to promote plasma pistol use would be to slightly increase the damage of it's normal shooting capabilities from 26 shots a kill to around 20 shots a kill. I also remember 3 homing shots were capable of killing in Halo CE... Was this removed on purpose?

Stronger trip mines would also lead to more use, and make up for the noisy, glowing appearance.

Increase gameplay speed. Many players from both Halo CE and Halo 2 find Halo 3 a bit slower in terms of gameplay speed. This can be increased in many ways. The easiest way is to increase running speed to 110%. Changing weapon switching speed, melee speed, grenade damage, and weapon damage can increase gameplay speed as well. Bungie should test such possible changes, and poll the community.

Sticky aim is too strong. I noticed a new attribute added to the current auto-aim system. When placing my crosshair over an enemy I notice a sticky effect which slows down aim sensitivity. This sticky effect is highly inconsistent and leads to many missed shots on campaign. The auto-aim also pulls in too strongly in cooperation with the sticky effect, and messes up leading with snipers, grenades, and rockets. Perhaps some testing is needed to determine whether or not to tone down the sticky effect found on the auto-aim.

Tone down the melee damage for the Assault Rifle slightly maybe. Many people find the Assault Rifle an extremely powerful weapon in combination with a melee attack. The 6 bullet melee combo for the AR kills faster than the SMG/melee combo and leads to a lack of use in close range weapons like the SMG. My math may be incorrect so I rely on Bungie for testing.

The mauler/melee combo is another common complaint among players. Supposedly, the combo kills a bit too quickly. Perhaps an animation delay should be added. The player cannot melee until the maulers recoil animation settles. Then the player cannot shoot until the melee animation finishes, and the mauler returns to proper position. A good delay between shooting, and a melee would, and vice versa could help.

Friendly Fire options could use a change on certain playlists. I gained a great deal of negative experience due to accidental betrayals during the Living Dead weekend.

Please balance out other weapons and implement them into matchmaking. These weapons include the Fuel Rod Gun, the Sentinel Beam, and everything else etc. Also please fix the equipment jumping glitch and re-implement the Flare, and Radar Jammer after proper balancing fixes. For instance the fake radar jammer dots move too fast, and it is easy to pick out the real players on the radar. Slowing down the fake dots to proper running speed would help. Please also fix the Flare's glitchy behavior. For some reason the Flare goes through certain objects, and walls, and even blinds players looking in the opposite direction. Fix the flare and add it to matchmaking again please.

Fix the maps. There are still many map exploits in Halo 3 which require good fixing.

Map balance could still use some work. The weapon balance in Halo 3 is great, but sadly the asymmetrical weapon placement doesn't go well with fans. This leads to a large amount of dislike for maps like Epitaph and Snowbound. Some players dislike the asymmetrical balance on these maps and prefer more traditional layouts like that found on the Pit.

A large portion of Snowbound is also played out in the tunnels due to shotgun camping. IMO promoting close range combat is great, and camping isn't too hard to counter. Sadly, other players seem to be impulsive when it comes to mindlessly rushing deadly shotgun campers. Either remove one hit close range weapons like the maulers and shotgun from Snowbound, or download player made versions of the map with overloaded shield doors. Many players dislike camping and blame shield doors. This will help open up the top of the map, and make for funner team games. HC Snowbound is nice, but many people hate the Ghost whoring, and miss the Spartan Laser. Perhaps you can make an entirely new weapon set including the Spartan Laser as a central weapon. Might try removing the ghost entirely as well.

Epitaph is another map which suffers due to the large number of power weapons and power-ups crammed onto the small map with asymmetrical balance. Players also dislike the lack of mid-range weapons like the battle rifle and carbine. Make a simpler weapon set similar to that of Midship, and players might like playing the map. Also consider using the player made Epitaph with overloaded shield doors for team games. Players just don't like the asymmetrical shield door placement when it comes to team games like Doubles, and normal Team Slayer gametypes.

Also, please fix the spawn system. Even 1up complained about the horrible spawn system in many of their articles based on the Beta, and final versions of Halo 3. Get your testers together and fix these bad spawns. Reconsider spawning teammates next to others already in battle. Please also consider quicker respawns so changing variables won't lead to bad respawns.

There is an animation glitch when using Swords, Hammers, and shotguns in which you shoot and see the animation, and hear the sound, but since latency plays a part you are already dead. Please fix these animation and sound glitches.

Again, many players constantly suffer from severe lag despite using an Open NAT, and constantly complain about WTF moments. Please check your netcode, or specifically recommend faster broadband connections around a specific speed, like 5 megs. Please also increase advertising when it comes to using an "Open" NAT.

That is all. Thank you for this opportunity to speak so players can try and help to improve Halo 3.

Well this may sound a bit strange or who knows maybe it can be a great help. What if ,like in the campain, there is the ability to switch out guns from 1 player to another...that would be a great help from people that maybe are not as accurate on certain weapons than the other person. So basically, its like retreiving a weapon for someone then giving it to them.

Who knows it could be very useful in a CTF game...and if they had the weapon already in thier inventory then all it would do is give them more rounds and bullets...

Like in Black Hawk Down and the Socom games you have the ability to get ammo from other people instead of picking up ammo off the ground....

WHO KNOWS WHERE THAT AMMO HAS BEEN lol

a way to gain more money in forge, for example, like how many kills in 1 game in matchmaking is how much you add to your budget, or gain money by playing campaign. And the max budget is 1000 dollars so there still is a limit. another thing, make plasma pistol shots a little stronger and leave the charged shot the same just to increase the popularity of the plasma pistol. AND PLEASE BUNGIE, make a 90 degree and a 180 degree clicking utensil in forge. GO MASTUR CHIEF,Digital pheer, and SODAGOD!

Heyo, I'm really glad you guys are broadening this to the community.

I really think there needs to be maps without power weapons introduced into both Ranked and Social Playlists. It could create more balance within the game, and instead of focusing on killing the guy with the power weapon, it would be more of a fair fight. This could include getting rid of shotguns, rocket launchers, spartan lasers, swords, Ghosts, etc. Kinda like the beginner Boot Camp... for veterans.

Either this or, as said, user-created gametypes / maps.

Also, I'd like to see some 3v3. Team Triples? Not sure if it's already been done because I haven't had Gold since February, but it sounds like a good idea. With the introduction of 1v1, Team Doubles, and Social, why not have a 3v3 as well? Or is that just picky?

spawning points i think need to be changed. i know it has been beat to death but the Elite swat issue is really lame. at times it seems easier to kill an elite with shields. it makes swat no fun. kick people out of the game who are lagging real bad. or just stop the game and call it a draw for everyone. ghost town seams backwash laggy when rockets come into play. not sure what causes it but maybe look into that. bring back spike grenades hurting people in a bubble shield from the beta.

HALO 3 OR HALO 4 (HALO 4 can be dedicated to matchmaking only)

MORE WEAPONS/EQUIPMENT

Here are some examples:
-Super snipes for very large maps (requires more accuracy)
-Canons where you have to load it and launch requiring two players to launch
-Helicopters so you can load an entire team in it and transport them to another part of the map
-Battleships so you can have a real war
-Land missiles to shoot far across the map but requires more accuracy
-Tripwire so you can string it across part of your base for flags
-Equipment that will allow you to climb/scale walls

I can go on and on. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HALO 4 DEDICATED TO MATCHMAKING ONLY. THINK OF THE POSSIBILITIES WITHOUT CAMPAIGN ON THE CD.

HALO 4
-100 MAPS
-40 PLUS WEAPONS
-30 PLUS LAND AND AIR VEHICLES
-30 PLUS X BUTTON WEAPONS LIKE A NEW BUBBLE SHIELD THAT DOE NOT ALLOW VEHICLES TO PENETRATE OR ONE THAT ALLOWS YOU TO FLY TEMPORARILY.

************* PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD FOR HALO 4 MATCHMAKING ONLY ************

SUPER/ULTRA FORGE MAP
-where the possibilities are endless - bigger than foundry so we can make bigger and better maps with more items to choose from

PLAYLIST (WITHOUT EXPERIENCE POINTS) FOR CUSTOM GAMES
Do you ever want to join a custom game but can't find one? How about a playlist in matchmaking where you can join an endless amount of custom games and there are no experience points at stake like a real custom game!!!!!!!!!

Fix the matchmaking to take GamerZone into account when finding matches. Including a 1-time only message for everyone to rethink their zone and prompt that they agree to the rules for that zone including that player reviews for Aggressive behavior is taken more seriously in the Recreation & Family zones maybe even start giving out temporary suspensions for it.

Pro & Underground should play amongst themselves!
Serious & aggressive players should use ONLY those GamerZones

Recreation is for having fun not for serious play. If you want to drive around Valhalla and occasionally splatter or kill someone that's fun. Playing to get the most kills is not Recreation type play and has no place for it in that zone.

I'll catch major crap for this thought, Pro & Underground should be their own set separate from Rec & Family. Changing to it should be a one way change. Once there you can freely switch between Pro and Underground. If you change it back Recreation or Family, once you re-enter matchmaking you receive a prompt that you agree to reset your mulitplayer Rank & Exp back to zero but it does NOT change your Campaign stats & Achievements.

Also on that line of thought would be a means to reset it manually if you get annoyed of being matched against the upper ranked aggressive players, need to have a redundant security feature for this one. Such as if you want to reset your rank you need to do the email confirmation and your email address cannot have been changed within 72 hours of the request, to prevent someone from hacking your account to take your down.

i would really like to c the battle rifle get a power decrease. it is way to powerful! it domidates everything and there is no way to kill someone walking backwads with a BR. give it a lower rate of fire or something.

also, the brute shot seems to get weaker all the time! its a grnade launcher and i think it should either kill faster or get a bigger clip.

  • 06.08.2008 10:09 PM PDT

1. THIS IS MY # ONE GRIPE WITH HALO 3....TONE DOWN THE RANGE OF THE ASSAULT RIFLE. AN AR SHOULD NOT BEAT A BR AT MEDIUM DISTANCE...PERIOD!
2. Fix the BR spread.
3. Take out the larger delay of time between sniper shots.
4. Bring back the variable melee damage. A jumping melee should do more damage.
5. The maps in Halo 1 & 2 were far superior. Bring them back.

In conclusion i feel that this game levels the playing field among players too much. In halo 2 you could separate yourself from people with the amount of skill the game took. I know this statement will probably get me flamed but I think bungie may have stumbled across something in Halo 2 by accident that made the game revolutionary. The button glitches. Here me out before you judge...(By this I mean bxr, rrxyy, bxb, rrbx etc .) The skill and timing that these moves took added so much more depth to the game than anything that bungie added to Halo 3. I use the word revolutionary because of the fact they were combining elements of first person shooters with those of a fighting game. I was one of the top Tekken 4 players in the world so I may be a little biased, but it brought me back to practicing button combinations with that of precise timing, thus opening the level of skill to dedicated players to an unachievable level for most. Most viewed these as ways to cheat but ironically (sarcasm), none these players that had this view were able to do it consistently. I realize that this isnt something that Bungie will implement into Halo 3, but I just felt the need to express this to the Bungie Community. Anyone agree?

One among millions; just the nearest visible right now.

The majority of things Halo3 needed improvements upon are things that should have been changed during the TESTING phase. There are too many of those to count or change after the fact.

Unfortunately, Bungie had three types of people giving them advice back then:
The community, which was more likely to thank you for inviting them than to give you criticism.
Professional gamers, whom will offer criticism and never produce an original idea.
Bungie's own staff, whom were more concerned with innovation than preservation.

This mixture has caused Halo3 to be an experience less lasting than Halo1, or Halo2.
The obvious exceptions to this rule are: less button glitching, The Forge, and Theater modes.
Certainly my experience is different than anyone else, but my biggest suggestion for improvement?

CHANGE YOUR TESTERS, and learn from how they helped you make all these mistakes.
Never let fans tell you which game you made was the best- build them ALL better.
Do not be afraid of breaking tradition unless you're FIXING WHAT IS NOT BROKE.
Be very afraid of making a mistake your testers can overlook, but actual consumers never will.

Come on now bungie! this is getting rediculous. Isnt it obvious that everybody wants spectres. i know me and my friends would. we loved them on halo 2 and im sure we would love them on halo 3. Maybe even a human spectre/prowler. Yeah... The Cougar. The prowler is not quite cuttin it for me. If introducing new vehicles would be such a big hastle then at least use the prowler on Avalache,Sandtrap, or even Valhala in matchmaking. BTB would be awesome for the prowler. We also want an island/tropical/water map. I also want to see the transport hog in use. Pretty much any type of new maps, vehicles, weapons, armor perm.,equipment, etc. would greatly boost the number of people playing Halo 3.

Yes that would be absolutely epic. A halo 4 dedicated to matchmaking would be great. More maps, vehicles, weapons, equipment would be freaking awesome. Variety is exacly what we need. Not saying anytime soon but a Halo 4 would be the greatest game ever made.

Prepare for an Oblivion for which there is no preparation!

So you are saying that Halo 3 came out less than a year ago and you are already bored of it? All this talk of "Halo 4"... If you got bored of 3 this quick I imagine "4" would take you what? a whole year? 100 maps? Please. For the detail and playability of the current maps, it certainly took a while to produce it. 100 maps of the same quality would take a decade to make, most likely much more. How about some more realistic ways of improving Halo.

I have a few more ideas of my own.
Match Making system needs a tweak. Not necessarily the ranking system, just the ways players are matched. The matching needs to be more than just your rank in the current playlist, but your highest skill as well(or at least lifetime experience). When I go into a playlist (Head to Head) for example, I get matched with someone who has a similar rank in Head to Head. Why should I (Highest skill 17) be matched up with levels 45+? Just because the are the exact same rank as me in Head to Head, does not by any means mean they would be a suitable player for me to face. I'm not saying its impossible to beat them, just rather difficult. Mostly just a waste of time, as the extremely lower level will inevitably lose.

Yeah dude there's not even 100 maps in all the Halos combined! But seriously, we need more weapons on maps like the sentinel beam, fuel rod gun, firebombs, deployable cover,etc...

Halo 3 is a great game, but, like anything great, it still needs improvement. Congrats on accepting your community, despite sometimes childish, instead of ignoring us.

My biggest beef with Halo 3 is the sheer ammount and strength of Power Weapons. These are extremely unbalancing; a shotgun followed with a Melee will kill a person with full overshields. I wouldnt be so negative if they werent so common; Power Weapons are everywhere! The Pit Alone has a Rocket Launcher, 2 Snipers, 2 Shotguns, a Sword, 2 Maulers and 2 Turrets. Its a mosh pit of Power Weapon Spamming.

I suggest lowering the frequency of these weapons. I suggest, for the Shotgun, Cutting its power back. Or, give it a maximum of 4 Ammo per Reload, and 12 Ammo Max (Including the ammo in the gun). There is no reason for a weapon like this to have 36 Ammo, 36 one hit kills. Last time I checked, the Rocket Launcher doesnt have 36 shots.

Power Weapons need to be cutback in all matchmaking playlists. Now, Im fine with power weapons in moderation, just dont overload the map with them. Sprinkle 2, 3, 4, maybe 5 powerweapons around the map. Make people use other weapons then just rushing for the power weapons.

Second is the melee system. Im personally a fan of the old one, as it wasnt a disadvantage. It occured for everyone, so, theoretically, the the system was equal. Yes, you died sometimes, but yes, sometimes you lived. In this new one, you both die. I realize, many people dislike both systems. So, I suggest creating a third system. Basically, mosh the two together. If were at the same Health, or within a certain limit of eachother (give or take a single, or two AR bullet(s)), both players will die. However, in the case of more then one or two, depending on whichever is set, AR bullet damage, the one with the weaker health dies. This gives us a rate of fairness, as it eliminates the randomness of the older system (as, a single AR bullets damage, which could randomly hit you, could result in death by Melee) As the system is now, I am told, if you can be killed by a melee, and your meleed, you die. Thats almost as broken as the other system.

Id like for Elite Bodys to morph into Human Ones in hardcore. Elites are banned in formal MLG, and are harder to headshot, which makes SWAT very interesting.

Snowbound is commonly vetoed due to the energy doors. I say, allow explosions through the doors, just not bullets. This will cut down on Door Camping, and allow people to actually fight in more then just one place.

Give Legendary DLC customers a patch, so we can use all Forge options on all maps!

Give the little kids some cosmetic updates to shut them the hell up. If I hear another complaint that theres no black (which there shouldnt be, its to camoflauging), or the elites dont have a lot of armor, Im gonna go crazy.

Have an option to turn off the Press Button to Speak in Custom. I say, get rid of it. If an idiot wants to spam in BTB, Ill just Mute him. Thats why we have it, why have this annoying extra thing. Pressing The Button is redundant if we have a Mute system, and it doesnt serve any purpose. If a person wants to be an idiot, they'll find a way to do it.

Generally, fix a few bugs. I get a few random ones from time to time.

Thank you for reading. Hope you take some of my ideas to heart. If not, thanks for atleast taking your time to read this, many communitys don't listen to their players. These are my suggestions for a better Halo 3 experience.

Speaking of chuckles, let's all lol at IonicPaul, who makes friends with bugs to make up for his lack of human contact.

1. Allow weapon lowering at LEAST on custom games on XBL. I don't want to have to invite friends over to just lower guns for me or twist my hands between two controllers.

2. I have a good solution to the vetoing system. Have a "preferred maps/gametypes" menu. That way, you can activate that as a filter and get matched with people with similar tastes without having to veto.

3. Also, you should be able to veto before the map loads. I mean, come on. Someone with a laggy connection is in the game and is taking forever to download the map/gametype. Why can't I veto then so we don't have to wait so damned long for the first map to load, veto, then wait for the next map to load?

4. Also, when more than half the players veto, have it switch right then. This is just a small annoyance, but it's still annoying to wait for a countdown even though the game has been vetoed.

5. KEEP the broad variety of playlists. People are like "OMG NOT ENUFF PLAYERS PLAYING TEAM SLAYER OR W/E." That's because they don't WANT to play your favorite playlist. They want to play what THEY want to play.

6. Allow backing up in campaign films. Damn, if I miss a good screenshot, I have to play the whole goddamned film again. Angryface.

7. Allow every object from every map in forge. It really helps machinima-makers to put their ideas into reality. This is within reason, of course. A tank on Ghost Town wouldn't even fit. But most stuff will fit. In my opinion, if it fits, put it in.

8. Allow weather effects to be placed in forge, or even in the gametypes lobby.

9. Forge campaign. I want to fight eight hunters, WHY THE HELL NOT >:( Again, within reason. Placing enemies might be a problem, because they're scripted to do stuff, and if they aren't, they break the flow of the map. But guns and vehicles would be leet.

10. Allow people to put weapons in the drop pods.

11. Remake Death Island. THAT MAP IS WIN.

12. Allow black as a secondary color. I think it's a cool accent, but would be overused if put as a primary. Same with steel. God, it's such a cliçhe to use steel.[/rant]

13. Tone up the snow-hornet. God, it's sad that its guns are worse than a 'hog's. In a one-on-one ghost vs. hornet fight, the ghost wins. FAIL. But keep the missiles off.

I know this is numbing because nearly everybody says it, but it means a lot to me that we can do this. Many companies are like "WE MADE THE GAME, STFU." I have to be Tru7hful, Bungie is one of two video game developers that has forums and asks its community how it can improve its games.

Things I'd like to see improved/changed:
Spawning - Spawns need to be worked out to prevent spawning in front of an enemy. Don't believe me when I say in front of an enemy? If you want, I could get some films for examples.
BR spread - More spread rewards luck, less spread rewards skill. Say you 5 shot someone with pinpoint accuracy making sure to lead them accordingly but the last shot, because of the spread, misses. The enemy 6 or 7 shot you, clearly missing a few times, but, because of the spread, was able to kill you because the last shot happened to land on the head. Luck over skill.
Shield doors - Ever have those stare-down contests on either side of the door? Shield doors encourage camping and slow down gameplay literally to a halt.
Also, in forge, the method to rotate objects is clumsy and awkward. There must be an easier way. Perhaps a "rotate 90 degrees along X/Y/Z axis" button can work?

My thoughts, for whatever they are worth.

Speaking of chuckles, let's all lol at IonicPaul, who makes friends with bugs to make up for his lack of human contact.

Hah, everyone keeps editing their posts because they keep remembering things they want to fix. Also:

14. Have a "nuke and pave" option in forge. It's a lot easier and faster than downloading canvas maps, which take up slots and space.

15. Have there be a way to lower your gun without doing all that crap. In certain scenes in a machinima, people might run into a room with their guns raised, then lower them. With the current RB+LB+Left stick+D-Pad down+A, you can't include that without your character looking like an R-tard.

those too.

Wow people! I can't believe some of the things that people are asking for in this thread. Ask for things that are more practical and will actually improve the quality of gameplay. Asking for that cool vehical or more explosions plz, isn't going to help anything. Look at this link and you will see tons of great ideas and genuine fixes for stagering problems in this game.
