I have a pentium 4 processor computer with 2Gigabytes processor, 1280 megabytes of ram, a g-force fx 5900 video card, 256 kbytes downstream/ about 34 kbytes upstream. I have tried turning off the spectacular, shadows, details on low, etc.... and still there is lag.
I would like to know if the connection speed is simply not enough or is there something that can be done to reduce the lag. I will be accepting help and comments.
Connected to a 100 and something server, my ping is about 166. Still the flow looks diturbed.

The problem isn't your computer. The problem is the game itself. :-(

One thing you can do to help a little is to make sure your network settings are correct. If you're on low grade cable, don't tell HaloPC you have a T1 connection. If it knows how fast your connection really is, it can make better decisions about what info to send back and forth to the server and what can be left out. A lot of people make the mistake of telling HaloPC they have the fastest connection possible, thinking it will help. But it only makes it worse.

also the fact that the location of you and the server try to find one nearest to you
broadband internet is the best for online gamming like DSL Cable T1-T3

I did read your web's article on reducing lag, that why I turned off spectacular and all the other stuff.

I dont tell halo that I have a greater connection speed in the settings, I am not that stupid...

Is it because the upload rate of the connection? Is it posibble to modify it in any way than simply paying for a greater connection?

How much of a difference makes the location of the player and the server as a result of lag?

The answers are open for anyone to answer...

if you have windows XP that might be the problem. it runs a bunch of services in the backgorund, most of which you dont need. Go to www.blackviper.com, and read up on which services you can disable. Also do ctrl-shift-escape in windows to see what kind of processes you are running. my guess is you just have a vunch of crap running in the background. i have a p3, 1ghz, 512 ram, with a fx 5900 and it doesn't lag. before i went to blackviper i couldn't even play single player cause it was so slow.

Sorry but gearbox made a big mistake with Halo on pc i hope the problem will be solved on Halo 2 ore some other company than gearbox will make the pc version of halo 2... There isn't so much to do but set the graphics down to res: 800x600 and everthing on low except texture detail to medium that worked for me...
