Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

I just got an 8600 GT, and Halo is the only game that doesn't run right. The framerate is constantly below 30fps, and the distant textures seem to glitch a bit. I'm using the current WHQL Forceware drivers for Vista, which would be 175.16.

I did hear though that people with 8800's were having trouble too. Can anyone point me to some working drivers? I know someone has this figured out already.

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

The only problem I have ever had on my 8800 GTX was that -useff doesnt work(as in the card doesnt support it) so if for any reason you want to use it don't bother. Other than that I never had a problem.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Turn off decals if you're using Vista.

Thanks, it works fine now.

Though I wonder why decals would be a problem for this card/driver release. I should probably inform nVidia, so maybe the'll look into it for a future driver update.

I've pretty much given up on companies adding desired features, but you're welcome to submit some info to nvidia if you want to.

Yeah, I'd be concerned about that. My laptop with integrated graphics can play it fine with decals. So if a dedicated card can't, thats not good. It has problems with the shiny surfaces though.

The 8 series are great for gaming, and can play decals on halo very well, but for some reason, ONLY on halo 1 or Halo Custom Edition (and ONLY on vista) it lags with decals. If turning of decals isn't working for you, also use triple buffering, vertical sync, and the direct x tweaker works very well.

Hello! Star Wars FTW. Also, join the MAW group. Please?

I've noticed that myself. Good to know it's not just me, I guess.

This is why I dual boot XP and Vista. For me, everything runs better on XP.

Weird. I have an 8400, and my settings are set to the max, but I don't have any framerate issues. Kinda ironic seeing as to how the 8600 and 8800 are supposedly "superior".

lol... they ARE superior. For everything other than the crappy port that is Halo 2.

The difference between an 8400 and an 8800GT is astounding on any decent game. You're lying to yourself if you think otherwise.

Go play crysis and you will see quite fast how much faster an 8800 is.

I'm afraid that when I actually do get money, I'm going to go overboard and get a 9800GTX.

But I'm waiting for those pretty little Radeon 4000s.

Live for nothing die for something.

I got a 8500, plays Halo 2 fine on Vista.

Would anyone mind telling me how to fix the Active Camoflauge? Also, it seems that I have the same problem with Vincent like the textures glitching. Same Graphics card and same driver.

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz
2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-6400 800MHz
160GB 7200RPM Hard Drive

The decals off solved the problem. So that's out. All I need is the Actice Camo problem.

Good. AMD needs all the help they can get, and playing 650 bucks for a card that's not even double the speed of a $200 one is absolutely ridiculous.

And those price figures are based on the GT280 of course.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

If anyone is curious, some dude on Ebay is selling 4850s (512mb) for about $225 USD, so my guess is that the 4870s will be very reasonably priced, unlike the GTX280.

they might be. Even ATI's going to charge a premium for a slightly higher priced model. The sapphire 4850's are going to be 200 a pop on newegg, from what I heard, and I"m sure the 4870's will be 10% faster or so from 250+

If ATI keeps with this sort of price scheme, I see my next build being a dual GPU system. *drools*

Does anyone have the Shader 2.0 patch to make the AR more shiny and stuff like that?
