I decided to not comment on this thread because I wanted to avoid unnecessary flaming, since half of the people here don't listen to reason anyway... but since it's cooled down somewhat, I'll give my insignificant thoughts. Theories of all kinds aside, I believe that the forerunners are not human because they simply didn't exist in our timeframe. They still exist, in my opinion, but not in this galaxy. They either are in another dimension, time, or they are in another galaxy. No matter your theoretical persuasion, we all agree that human civilization began roughly 4-6 thousand years ago. The forerunners have been absent for at least 40 times that long. It is interesting to note, however, that despite the installation's massive size, it seems to be designed for beings of comparable size to humanity and covenant races. Many have speculated that this denotes the humans as forerunners, yet it proves nothing, since the covenant are of comparable size as well. The other fact about 343 guilty spark calling the Master Chief "Reclaimer" doesn't prove anything, since he makes a clear distinction between human, covenant, and the forerunner. (He tells you "stop being human" when you shoot him.) This aside, what clues do we have as to the forerunner's existence and physical appearance? The only clue we really have is in 343 guilty spark. Granted, he's invincible, and as good a choice for a body as any A.I. would want, but why have one at all? Why couldn't he just be a part of halo's computer systems and run the menial tasks he was supposed to, as durandal, tycho, and leela did aboard the marathon? This denotes that he was meant for a function outside of Halo. What that would be, I'm not sure, but a thought occurred to me that he was meant to alert the forerunner should the flood break out of their containment again. In that case, I don't think Guilty Spark will be alone when he returns...
