My laptop has a cheap ati graphics card, amd athlon@512 MHz, and halopc plays like a dream...with a few visual sacrifices.

Yes you can play it. Ive even heard of people playing with a 450MHz processor. Just play halopc on safemode. There should be something about it in the manual. But who reads manuals?

If you installed the game, there should be a halo readme in the file where halo was installed (you may have to dig through your computer's HD for it)

In there, youll find a list of command prompts. One should be safemode. Go to command prompt (youll find it on Start Menu>All Programs>Accessories> "Command Prompt" and do what the halo readme tells you to do for safemode.

Oh wait, the other thing is that you could get that message just because of the computer. Click the "dont show me again" checkbox and click "continue anyways." I got that too, i just forgot about it after i cliked the "dont show me again."

no need, your problem is that your cpu is less than 733 MHz. in short, you need a new motherbord, processer, ram, ect.
oh to hell with it. replace the whole computer. you can get a new one from dell for only $500. put your old viedo card in there and you should be able to play halo

Yeah, you need a new computer. Even for cheap, one will run much better than what you've got.

However, take my really old PC:

P3 590MHz
128MB ram
14GB hard drive
GeForce MX440

However, the only saving grace for me is my graphics card, even though it is still really crappy, it allows me to play Halo on low settings with little lag. I used to have a Rage 128 Pro in that before the Nvidia card - get at least a new card, it doesn't support directdraw and many other key things...

If you run safe mode, the game itself will be intact. But there will be some visual sacrifices: the sound wont be as varied (no crickets in the night) the particles wont show up, no blood, very little smoke, and you won't be able to read in-game print (like the instructions on the SPNKR)

Youre confusing safemode with run in 256 colors. 256 colors means only 256 colors to choose from. But safemode wont do that.

Oh, and i wouldnt buy a computer. Even though they are cheap nowadays, its still at best a 400 dollar investment...unless youre rich.

Wait, ive been confusing processor with cpu. I think.

My bad...

...maybe you do need to buy a new computer...or at least get a new cpu.

But i still think safemode would work.
