all of the people that insist that halo 1 is better than halo 2 or 3 [or any combo of the three] its sensless to impose your own personal views onto the rest of the bungie community. no amount of arguing about replayability, or better graphics, or BR over pistol or anything like that will change someones opinion. everyone has their personal favoite piece of the halo trilogy, and each one brings something to the table that everyone can enjoy.
halo 1 has the most memorable of the three campaigns. there were many unexpected surprises, i mean come on, who expected the flood before the level 343 guilty spark? the AI was innovative, and was quite useful fairly often, though you had to be careful if they drove the ghost. they were witty too, and looked like bungie employees. and the levels had an epic feel to them, which i think no other halo game has accomplished quite as well. the campaign still offers alot in replayability today. it also included a great multiplayer, granted the balance of power in weapons wasnt perfect, it was still enjoyable and foreshadowed something great to come. and you cant forget the funny comments in the make a gametype menu. "are you nuts? we'd get sacked!"
halo 2 introduced many of the concepts we are now familiar with and have embraced as the halo norm. the innovations in the customizability and multiplayer were excellent, and though it still wasn't 100% perfect, it became the most played online game of its time. did i mention xbox live? it also expanded greatly on the storyline, and gave us memorable characters such as the arbiter and the gravemind. the way the story handled with the campaign wasn't as good as it could have been, but it still offers replayability and has many epic moments. without the time constraints, it would likely have been a much better game, and it was good in the first place.
halo 3 took replayability to heart. things like forge, the meta-game, and theater mode allowed people to look at halo in a new way. the campaign was finally playable online, and offered up to a 4 player experience online. the meta-game added a competitive edge to mowing down the enemies. elites were allies now too. pretty cool. the levels offered huge firefights and the AI prooved its worth on both sides. though it never quite achieved the feel of those first days playing halo 1, it got as close as it could, prooving to be a fun experience. the multiplayer prooved itself as well, cementing halo as the top dog again in online multiplayer. even now, it fights vigorously for the top spot, and despite all of the pessimism and false numbers in the H3 forum it is still popular. the intro of equipment and even more customizable options that you had to work for made it more challenging as well.
each game is great. you cant debate that. i just feel its pointless trying to force your opinion on other people. its like i said, everyone has their favorite, and they have their reasons for liking one over the other. i personally can not choose a favorite. i play all 3 on a fairly regular basis. i play halo 1 on the pc more than on xbox tho...
