Honestly, if I were to narrow it down to one thing that is my favorite part about what I've played of Halo 2, I'll have to go abstract and say "The experience."
Imagine if you will, a group of elites on a beautiful beach, organizing themselves. Three hop into a rocketlauncher warthog, one jumps into a ghost, and the rest run full-bore at the dilapidated wall that used to protect an old electrical facility.
At the same time, the team of spartans protecting the facility are scrambling, grabbing a rocket launcher, manning stationary turrets, opening the storm doors, getting into position.
As an elite, you make it past the wall, past the giant turbine spinning slowly in the sun, and get one look at the surfaces that make up the building.
That's the last time those walls will look so pristine. Seconds later, the rockets, grenades, plasma and bullets flying through the air have torn chunks out of the pillars, destroyed the storm window shutters, blown up the platforms where the turrets had been. In the middle of the courtyard, a burning pile of metal is all that's left of the ghost, its occupent some twenty yards away. An elite with an energy sword had forced his way into the base, and opened a gate on the side, from which a smoking warthog races out. A lucky shot takes out a tire, sending the 'hog rolling...
You get the idea. ;)
