alright Ive been haveing this issue where while playing H2V Mouse sensitivity 10 is way to low. Low enough where it takes 3 mouse slides to turn around. In haveing this issue i read some forums and found this.

First you need to turn on V-sync. (This causes mouse lag for some it did for me).

For Nvidia users:

1. Right click on your desktop
2. Click NVIDIA Control Panel
3. Select Advanced Settings
4. Click Manage 3D Settings
5. Click on the Program Settings Tab
6. Click Add
7. Select halo2.exe ( c:\program files\microsoft games\Halo 2 )
8. Scroll to the bottom of the settings for Halo2.exe and force Vsync ON
9. Click Apply
10. Play!

For ATI users:
1. Right click on your desktop
2. Click ATI Catalyst Control Center
3. Click on 3D
4. Click on All Settings
5. Scroll down to "Wait for vertical refresh"
6. Move it to the right until it says "On until application specifies"
7. Click Apply
8. Play!

Second in order to fix the mouse lag I Went to http://forum.overclock3d.net/showthread.php?s=e327793189712e8 2bdacc9c4ffc99950&t=8561 and overcloscked my USB mouse.

I personally thought 1000mhz got rid of most the lag but i still had messed up handeling.

Then third i went into my mouse properties in control panel and went to Pointer Options and turned off Enhanced Pointer precision.

This in the end cranked up my sensitivity and fixed the mouse lag hope this helps someone out.

Edit: You also need to enable triple buffering and thread optimization

This is what i did works PERFECT NOW Deff Pwn.

Yes, fixing the usb polling rate worked for me when I did it close to a year ago. No one listens.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Thanks so much for this info. It took me 2 tries to get the polling rate (Vista is on E: not C:) but it eventually worked. However, I still get mouse lag. :(

I set it to 1000 Hz. Also, changing refresh rate doesn't help either. :/

Intel Core 2 Duo 3 Ghz
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
Vista Home Premium

I changed max frames to 0 and it made no difference.

I'm getting about 1/4 second mouse lag which makes aiming with BR very hard.

H1 and Halo Custom edition name: madkiller92

This is helpful, but I have another problem on my 8600GT. Whenever I enable V-sync, I get FPS drops, sometimes locked at 30-45, instead of 60-75. And the new nvidia driver forces the v-sync on for all my halo games.

Whats ur average framerate without v-sync

now it's about 50-70. 50-60 with v-sync.It seems I was just having a random 5 min FPS drop...
And for H1, disable decals, use v-sync, disable threaded optimization, and enable triple buffering.

Nope. Didn't help. Even Microsoft told me to give up, but I'm still holding out for a fix.
What really ticks me is there are NO mouse problems in XP with the patch. Stupid Vista.

Same issue on my game... I have mouse lag on one other game that i play, Counter Strike Source, but the FPS is just fine, everything is smooth. Same with Halo2, everything is smooth but the mouse and keyboard, takes like half a second before it moves. I can play Fear, WOW, bf2142, doom, and quake4 without lag.

Ive tried all the tricks listed here in this whole thread, none worked.

Specs:
Intel core2duo E6550 2.33ghz
2GB Memory 800mhz
Geforce FX 7300GS

  • 06.22.2008 4:40 PM PDT

I had the same problem too, I had halo 2 since last year but could not play it because my pc could not handle it. But after all the upgrades I did and also the graphic card it plays beautiful now!!!!! But ya I did had to enable THREADED OPTIMIZATION, TRIPLE BUFFERING, and VERTICAL SYNC in nvidia control panel all ON. Works perfect and no mouse stutter or lag at all. Worked for me! THANKS for this forum I would have never known about this fix.

My PC info:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+ Windsor 3.2 GHz AM2
4GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) G.Skill
eVGA GeForce 8600 GTS 512GB DRR3
I feel like im advertising lol

Not to well, but it helped a little. It still takes me 3-4 times of picking up my mouse and rolling to turn around at mouse sensitivity at 7. And about 2-3 at 10.

Sorry to here that, wish I could help.

But I also I think Microsoft should make a fix for this problem. I feel sad for those that don’t know Jack S*** about computers and will never get to play Halo2 PC because of this issue, lol funny but true.

You might look into the registry/config. There must be something left to change.

Yeah, but what? I'm clueless when it comes to the registry.

Heh this is lame... I tried for another hour last night to get this damn game working smooth again but ended up in the same ballpark. Mouse/keyboard still take about half a second to react to my movement or keypress. I've tried everything from turning off the vista theme so it's got the old school 2000 look to startup in diagnostic mode with nothing but nvidia and drivers running. Ive even tried other settings in the nvidia control panel, even as global settings and no change. Almost wish there was a way i could return this game cuz i cant even play it.... Anyone have any suggestions?

No idea. I have an open support case with MS, and the guy I talked to, Alok, is still researching the problem. If he comes up with a solution I'll post it.

im guessing u upped ur polling rate i know microsoft has a big roll in it but i thing a big thing might have to do with ur mouse. Im betting the higher the dpi it supports the better but cant be sure since my mouse is set and i cant change it like the Razrs...

Oh and i have no idea why but when ur setting it up at 60 hz it still lags for me but when i set my refresh rate at 85 its perfect. I allways have to reset it each time i boot up halo 2 no idea why but it helps a lot for me ?

Slaying noobs since 2007.

I've seen that problem with certain types of monitors Node. But it usually does it whenever doing the more intense colors.
