Halo 2 might be cool on mac, because there you have a stable system, much like a console (it gets old, you throw it out), so when they develop it for the macintosh they have a solid idea of how it's going to run. On the other hand, gearbox might have learned their lesson last time around and will develop a solidly-coded (net and graphics) version of the xbox game. I'm also wondering how they're going to pull off the xbox-live-designed online game (those of you who have actually played halo 2 on the xbox know what I'm talking about, optimatch and voicechat and all).
What I remember about halo PC was online lag, but it seemed to be less because of system speed or network speed, but more because of difference of interpretation. Like I said before, the math of Halo and Halo 2 netcode depends on all their systems being the same, so the events your computer interprets might not be the same as what another computer, or the master server, interprets. Ever naded a warthog coming at you and seen it start to flip, and then revert back to drive? That's caused by a miscommunication between what's happening on your computer and what's happening on the host computer.
I think the experts would put this best, and I mentioned this article once before, but here y'all go. Enjoy. Those of you who aren't heavy on the techno mumbo jumbo... you can look at the pretty pictures:
