Ping, is the term for how long it takes for your PC's signal to reach the server's and get back. 130-160 isn't necassarily bad tho. how fast is ur connection?

Do the test,,,,,google it ( internetspeed )

Or try downlaoding a file and look what the speed is.
Mine is around 300 KBPS wich is not much

Hmm, is it Qwest DSL? I had that and it was terrible. For $42, you could get internet with Comcast at about 6 times the speed - I switched a few months ago.

Otherwise, try the internetspeed test angelslayer suggested. Also, ask your ISP how many people share the pipe in your area. People using the internet can sometimes 'bump' you off on DSL if you are trying to play a game where a constant connection is vital. Sometimes DSL signals cut out midstream because of too much activity on the line.

You need to connect to a server that reports a lower ping.

If you are using cable internet, then you might consider a few speed tests. also, call up your ISP and ask them what your upstream / downstream capabilities should be. A good cable ISP will give you a downstream of 3000 kbps or more, and an upstream of at least 640 kbps.

I play halo PC online with pings about 80 or so, my cable internet seems to have better performance at different times of day. peak hours are the worst.

Heyyo,

Pings of 130 shouldn't get you kicked. That's not a very healthy ping, but not enough to get you kicked.

I think it could be a firewall issue. They tend to lag down your game bad if your firewall ain't setup right, so check into that.

He's on msn internet service.. big company like that? low speeds due to massive amounts of people onnit. so your game has a higher chance of slowing down.

All internet connections need a modem...

DSL and cable have an external boxy modem, while 56K uses internal PCI cards or the motherboard's 56K modem (heh, used to be that 56K was on an external modem, too).

Could you still get charter if you have dish network? Or do you have to have cable TV to have cable internet?

to b honest i wouldnt let u on my server with a ping/latency that high. may b its ur machine m8. some peple believe that ur latecy is ALL to do with ur isp but the motherboard and other factors can effect it.
post ur system specs here including ur isp

that is pretty good. you can go here to test your internet.
http://www.dslreports.com/stest
other wise your windows firewall and norton or what ever you have can be conflicting. or you have another internet program running and connected in the background

Very slow. 256 is still pretty slow, but 128...err, that's like ISDN speed :o

I have supposedly 3000, but I'll go test it now. But yeah, I think your internet needs an upgrade.
