How does everyone think the fact that the brutes and elites hate eachother affect the gameplay? WIll they ignore u and keep fighting or will they attack?

Hopefully, you can have enough interaction with them to turn themselves against each other, and slip past unoticed, say, throwing a grenade in the middle of them, or using an Eite weapon to attack a Brute, then hide.

Elites hate Brutes?

They dislike eachother because they're about on the same level in the eyes of the Prophets. Instead of Grunts at the bottom, then Jackals, then Elites bossing them around, now the Brutes have the same power, and niether are used to the sharing. If anyone else could explain it better, please correct me.

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

Read First Strike, they hint at the distain and hatred. Also, the Elites are a proud race, the very IDEA that they are losing thier place to ANYONE else would garner thier hatred. The Brutes look at the Elites as a weaker lesser race, the Prophets are starting to favor them the way they did the Eltites and this is making the Elites jealous, and hateful. Also, there is a major rumor that there will be a Covie Civil War.... the Brutes and Prophets, vs the rest of the Coveanant. I say this because at the end of FS they hint at the Prophets hiding something from EVERYONE else excpet the Brutes...

Sorta, it's a loosely held alliance, held mainly on faith than comradery. The Grunts are at the bottom, they have no problem following the Elites and Hunters, but they hate the Jackals, they think they are superior to them. The Jackals, have no problems with the others, but hate the Grunts, this is shown in the second book, The Flood, but thier hatred is not too deep since Yapyap, was able to gain the respect of the Jackals he commanded, they even considered him an honorary Jackal. Each think they are superior to one another. The Hunters, well, they are just there, little is known about them but they seem to have no problems. The Elites see themselves as JUST below the Prophets, but now the Brutes have entered the picture, and they are taking thier place... the Elites do not like this, they do not want to be under them, and the Brutes feel that they are superior. In the end, it's all about Pride and Ego.

thats pretty well thought out
and getting elites and brutes to fught would be fun with little grunts just getting in the way and being shot for just being there

i'd by h2 just for that but a civil war would be fun but the grunts would join humans cos every other covie race teats them like dirt.

I suggest you read Fall of Reach and The Flood as well, preferably before FS but... to late I guess.

A_spartan, you dont know -blam!- in a single damn thread. quit saying, "really" or "no way"... its annoying now that i see you post.

yes, brutes hate elites. i think its going to be like in marathon, tho. you are target number 1. if they do any friendly fire on accident, you can get them to kill each other. jsut run away, and stop firing at them. its probably going to be more advanced, but you get the idea...

Heres a little list of who hates who and why in the covenant castes, feel free to save this for future referances.

Prophets
Likes:
Brutes, thinks they are the perfect instrument. see first strike pg 339
And all the others too, they have no major enimies.
Dislikes:
No-one as such

Engineers
They seem to be in a trance and do their job they are not enemies with anyone, not even humans.
To make this easier assume that no covenant dislike the engineers.

Elites
Likes:
Hunters, due to a neutral respect between the two races, stated in the strategy guide
Prophets, due to the fact that out of all the covenant castes they are the most fanatically devoted to the religion and thus the prophets themselves.
Dislikes:
Brutes, due to the fact they are sharing their space as one of the upper castes. not happy about prophets new found favour towards them. they are interfering with their pride and there is mutual hatred between the two castes.
Grunts, see them as inferior cannon fodder and use them as such. Think nothing of them.
Jackals, same as Grunts. In an Elites eyes they are all equally pathetic. it states on the Elite figure that they hold the lower classes in equal contempt to the humans

Brutes
Likes: The Prophets whom they obey without question and seem to hold in equal awe as the Elites do.
Dislikes:
Probably, though no proof as such, every single other Covenant caste.
Elites due to a mutual hatred and each trying to become the higher caste and gain the favor of the Prophets.

Hunters
Likes: Elites due to their mutual respect (but this could be wrong as the elites plasma bombardment was what forced them into the covenant collective) but it seems that hunters only take commands off of elites.
Dislikes: Grunts and Jackals. sees them as a lower caste and will not think twice about walking over them and killing them if in the way. sees them as inferior beings. see fall of reach.

Jackals
Likes: No-one really but will take commands from Elites
Dislikes: Hunters because of their minimal concern for their kind but especially hate Grunts. in the caste system, jackals are equal to grunts, a lot like elites are to brutes. and like the brutes and elites this causes a lot of mutual hatred between the two. The Jackals see themselves as above the Grunts so pick on them and make brutal attacks to maintain above them. they seem to enjoy killing/maiming Grunts as in the flood Yayap thinks of the horrible punishment of being given to the Jackals. so such acts must occur within the society.

Grunts
Likes: No-one at all
Dislikes:
Hunters due to thier non-caring treatment of the Grunts and seeing them as pest like creatures.
Jackals because of their foul treatment of Grunts to maintain a sense of superiority
Elites for using them as cannon fodder, sending them on suicide missions, thinking of them in equal contempt to humans. It's quite clear in the flood that Grunts hate Elites. they wanted zamamee to die when he was injured on PoA

New mystery caste - lets find out :)
