Will this be available on Kindle, do you know? It seems like most new releases are, but there are a few tomes that I've been eying that aren't available on Amazon's Kindle.

"I aim to misbehave" - Captain Malcom Reynolds.

excellent news! I've finished my University course now for the summer (I have my degree in animation! :) ), so I'm going to update myself on all the novels

I just came to a conclusion that The Cole Protocol may be hinting to the Marathon Universe. Just look at the image of the Halo 3 Security player.

Thoughts and opinions are great. I personally would like to see the Marathon Universe be expanded after the Halo Universe.

bungie r niec guy, he r dont do anything to u, he only gave away free beta codes is that so wrong? microsfot was all liek 'YO BUGNIE PUT UR COEDS INTO DIS BOX AND WE R PUT LOCK ON IT' and bungie was all like 'oooo okay :D' but little r bungie no, microsft r hav bad lock, and BADDD BADD people gots in and stole ALL beta codes D: now we dun has none left, if nething, blame microsoft 4 bad lockss and allow bad peoples to steel code

People are ..really happy about this from what I see, but I can't be too excited for this one. I've never even heard of Tobias S. Buckell, and Nylund even showed interest in writing the book. I'll wait for some decent reviews from people here before I pick it up..

FINALLY!

I hope it's better than Contact Harvest.. That was way worse than all the other Halo books out so far.
Seriously..why all the Contact Harvest hate? The Flood still remains the worst of the Halo books, and Contact Harvest is second best for me. Go Joe for writing that one.

Seriously, has this entire site gone bonkers since I left?!

Dude is this the 6th book or is it going to be released really late in the year which might make it the 7th. Since the release of Harvest i been watching the online book stores (mainly amazon.co.uk) and there is another book already named from the time just after the Harvest release called Halo:Uprising . The release date was originally March this year but was moved to April and then to OCTOBER 8th. Any chance you can get on to the other guys and girls and find out more about this for us all.
Cheers
Russ - S80
P.S instead of asking for Recon like every1 else usually does can i play couple games with you guys instead of asking and not geting the recon. Would be more fun to play with you lot rather than bugging you loads for the armour

Books and more!

That link shows the order of the first five main Halo Universe novels. Other novels, comics, and guides are shown also.

ok well I love the halo books and have read them each about 4 times now but I read that this book is about the Gray team and that it takes place DURING the games...?
I'm a little confused because if you go through all the books and do the math you find out that there starts out with 33 Spartans after they are augmented but then they lose Sam when they get their first suits and Kurt goes MIA to train the Spartan IIIs so that only leaves 31 left. Then during The Fall of Reach and The First Strike you find out that 3 Spartans go on the Space Station to take care of the Nav comp. which leave 28 left and it makes mention that Fred has 26 Spartans in his squad when he goes to the ground battle which leaves only 1 Spartan left out there some where that was never apart of the original mission to steal a covenant ship...
so unless this book takes place BEFORE the actual fall of Reach then I don't understand how it could be possible...

I mean I thought about after wards when Fred, Will, and Linda get back to earth after their rescue in The First Strike being the Gray Team but then that really wouldn't make sense because The Ghosts of Onyx covers their story...

so please, if anyone could help me figure this out then could you please do so?

  • 06.28.2008 10:42 PM PDT

Realy cool !! =P

  • 07.03.2008 7:24 AM PDT

If I'm remembering correctly Gray Team was mentioned once or twice in Ghosts of Onyx as an entire Spartan-II team that was truly MIA. No one had known what happened. Sounds cool, especially since now it seems to me like the 6th book won't be the last like Bungie originally made it to be.

We were never given an exact number of Spartan-II's that survived the augmentation, it just said roughly half. We also were never told exactly how many Spartans made it to Reach and how many perished there. But yes it is safe to assume that it takes place before the actual Fall of Reach because the book is called the Cole Protocol which was a protocol used to not let the Covenant find Earth and that protocol has been around since the Covenant first made contact with the humans.

well actually if you turn to page 61 of The Fall of Reach you will find a passage that tells you exactly how many Spartan IIs survived the augmentation...
"Not everyone had been lost. John glanced around the launch chamber: Sam, Kelly, and thirty others still stood at attention in their black dress uniforms. They had made it unharmed trough the last-mission wasn't quite the right word. More or less."

and if you turn to page 12 of The First Strike you'll find a passage that tells you exactly how many Spartan IIs went to the surface of Reach during it's fall...
"He activated his motion sensors, boosting the range to maximum. His team appeared as blips on his heads-up display. With a sigh of relief he saw that all twenty-six of them were present and pulling into a wedge formation."

and as mentioned in both The Fall of Reach and The First Strike John, Linda, and James go on the Space op at Reach...

so if you do the math then there is only one Spartan out there during the fall of Reach that was never there...

but then it still contradicts itself because later in The Ghosts of Onyx on page 172 of the large print you find that there are two other Spartans beside Sam and Hurt that went missing or were confirmed dead and they were Randall and Sheila who both went MIA before the fall of Reach so they couldn't have been there either meaning that there is an extra spartan that was not there in the beginning...

don't get me wrong, I want to read this new book too it's just that I noticed all thes contradictions and needed to tell someone about it...

Yea it's been a while since I read those books so I guess I forgot that. Well no series is perfect so it only makes since that something this big would have its contradictions. But for all we know Gray Team could just be one person. I know that it never said in the books how many people had to be in a group to make it a team.

  • 07.04.2008 2:13 PM PDT

it's ok man, I've read them like 4 times each so I have a whole bunch of random knowledge in my head from them and they all seemed to contradicts themselves and just needed to tell someone about it...

and if anyone has any questions there's a really good site called Halopedia that is basically a knock-off of wikipedia bt specially for the Halo universe
here's the link for it... http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Names Atomic. Actually it's Jason but as far as you're concerned, it's Atomic. I'm a community guy. I love almost everything about the bungie/halo community. Oh, And I blog.

I'm pretty depressed about this book. Now the fans of my Gray Team machinima series will complain if it isn't to a T with the Halo Canon.

Is there any word on when Joseph Staten will be writing another book to go with Contact Harvest, if ever?

I honestly enjoyed that book quite immensely and found it tremendously well written. I'd like to see that side of the Halo Universe explored.
