Hello, I'm Daryl. Nice to meet you. See you around.

Me, being a film lover, decided to watch Stanley Kubrick's The Shining last night. If you haven't seen it (but who doesn't know about it?), it is based on Stephen King's novel. It is about a man who takes on the responsibility of being a caretaker of this hotel, which is haunted. Not really haunted, more like determined, as the movie suggests that the "bad" in the hotel isn't limited to the hotel, and something that is part of our world. Blah blah, this isn't a movie or horror forum ;). Anyways, while watching the film I noticed that the woman mentions the word "Sidewinder" a few times. Upon research I found this:

"Description: A family finds the true meaning of horror while working as winter caretakers at the Overlook Hotel. 40 miles West of the closest town of Sidewinder, and stranded over winter, strange things can happen in any hotel, but this one's haunted!"

The dictionary reference says that a Sidewinder is a rattlesnake in New Mexico or something.

What other inspiration could Bungie have had? It clearly is the same name, and it says "and straned over winter".

I believe the reason no one has responded to your question yet, is that you're being too intellectual. Try using the words "Dude", "Hey you guys," or "Check it out, man!"... this will get their attention.

Also I noted that you used quite a few words with more than one syllable. That's a no-no with this group. For instance instead of saying "The dicitonary reference..." say "That big book with the words in it..."

But in answering your question... sure why not. Everything in some way has an inspiration, but you'll never truly know unless you were to ask the original person who came up with the name (not likely).

Good find old chap! lol man, obviously bungie combined the two definitions, because sidewinder is strained over winter, and it bends and twists like a snake. so yeah, i guess you must be right
