My thumbsticks will be your Doom.... sorry 'bout that.

I was playing Halo CE yesterday and as I was delighting in leading most of my Marine squad to the grav-lift under the Truth and Reconcilliation I recalled a weekly update a while ago where Frankie said that the staff was working on HUGE pieces of moving geometry in the game (basically something that's never been done before in games). I recalled this weekly update cause I was gawking at the beautiful graphics of Halo and the size and scope and relativity of the appearance objects on this level (T&R). I'm talking about the gass-giant and it's moon, how on half the ring it's night-time and the other day-light and most importantly the huge Covie Cruiser that is stationary overhead!!!

Does anybody think (that it would be cool and even a possibilty) that we get to see one of these things move within the gameplay? Like in low Earth orbit on one of the Earth levels or how about boarding one from the outside while in space (like in the books)? It would be cool to look up and see a huge cruiser move into place and start converting our own atmosphere into plasma and start glassing the surface.
Any other ideas on what these moving geometry pieces could be? I know he said it was something like an escalator (i think, i can't remember if he was just using that as a metaphore or example)??? What d'ya say?

I think, done right, that could have huge impacts in gameplay and atmosphere. If you think about it, most large peices of goemetry, like say, the game level itself, are very static. But moving them around hasnt really been done much. Think what it would be like to be MC jumping down onto that giant moving cruiser in space, and looking around to see an ARMADA of Covenant ships! Take down one by blowing your way inside, killing the comand crew, scuttle the ship and jump to the next passing cruiser Freakin awsome. What kind of kick ass low or zero G Multiplayer levels could you come up with if you had bases floating or otherwise moving? like MP in a giant asteroid belt, huge asteroids spinning and colliding as you jump from peice to piece fighting. Kick arse.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. But as for that other stuff... it's already been Bungie-firmed that a low level gravity level will be in place (whether for Campaign or MP or both who knows) i think it's strongly considered to be the moon. But you got me thinking about a book called Ender's Game where they practice with light-guns in a zero g room. There's obstacles in the way and bouncing(jumping) off walls, objects and each other -is the only way to move. That would be great for MP! As for the -getting-to-play-what-happens after that nifty cinematic (jumping outa the frigate and hitting the cruiser) it would be a total space shooter but on "rails" -high velocity course towards the covie cruiser and no way to alter your trajectory but you could aim anywhere around you so you start with the turrets on the Huge Moving Cruiser beneath you and of course don't forget the Elites that are going EVA to intercept.

I think that there should be a level in Halo 2 right after the movie where MC jumps out of the ship where he is fighting on the top of the covenent cruiser that he lands on.

the low grav level could be on the old halo's ruin as a programmer in bungie (i can never recall his name) said that we go back to there later.

Yeah, Enders Game was an awsome Sci-Fi novel, I hear they're making a movie out of it....

I heard about the low/ 0 gee thing from Bungie too, it was a ways back, but holy -blam!-, thats gonna kick ass, especially if it optional to set gravity for each level\gametype. Your probably right about the on rails thing for that space battle, I just like to let the ol' imagination run around. They also mentioned some MP level that had a giant bouncing castle, that will add a whole new level to my grenade lobbing hottness.

Man I hope they got moving ships in the game somewhere somehow, whether Covie or Human. I always drool at the scene from the E3 new mombasa city demo where the longswords swoop in and take out the plasma cannon... sorta reminded me of when the pods land on Halo (second level "Halo"). I want Bigger and badder!
