I know its not going to happen, but I was thinking that the one type of typical FPS weapon the HALO universe is missing is a HMG.
I imagine it like a big AR, but more accurate at range, more powerful rounds, and slightly slower firing rate. A belt fed weapon with 100 rnds. per belt, a long reload time and a speed\movement penalty, also you couldnt carry any other weapons mabey. When you crouch, you could deploy a bipod slung under the barrel, giving you more accuracy and contoll.
It would be great for getting a vantage on a base or group of enimies and suppressing them while your MP teammates move in to flank. Imagine getting on the ridge trails on blood gultch and peppering any opponent that leaves thier base, or going all out Rambo style down tight corridors. I know it doesnt quite fit in with the weapons of HALO, but I still think it would be awsome for that total badass feel.
What kind of HMG would you like to see?
You are such a wanker. Heavy machine guns use the 50BMG round thats used in Barret sniper rifles for extreme distance shooting, whereas a M60 or 249 SAW are considered light-medium machine guns that use rounds like the .223 or the .308(sorry dont have the NATO terms).
Raeden and I have been talking about the use of light machine guns being intergrated into Halo 2 for a while. His idea was based loosely on the design of the M56 Smart gun that was in Aliens. It would be belt fed, have poor accuracy, and would cause the user to move slower than they would with another type of weapon. My idea was along the same lines except that I liked that I prefered the look of the FN Minimi to the futuristic Smart Gun.
Also, thats a little unfair if the person carrying the MG cant use another weapon. The machine gunner is only able to pick up weapons that require one hand to use, such as the SMG, pistol, and the alien equivelents. In real gunner groups in the military, the MG palys the role of suppresion and cover while the other soldiers in the platoon are the main attacking group.
