i think the host should have the power to lock teams and to unlock them.

teams should be locked ingame. I can't see many legitimate reasons to change your team mid-game. The teams shouldn't be unfair as they should be balanced in the lobby.

exactly, and if you cant deal with being on a losing team then you are a sore loser and dont deserve to be playing online or playing Halo or Halo 2 at all for that matter

WORST IDEA EVER. What if dinner is ready and two people from one team have to leave? Then you'd have to play 8 v 6? That makes no sense. Allow the host to have booting ability and these things will sort themselves out.

You obviously haven't played many CTF games. They tend to be long and often people leave and join in the middle. If you can't switch sides, balance becomes an issue.

Counter strike allows you to switch and I have very rarely seen saome one abuse it. It would be a pain in the ass if it weren't possible. I can imagine the host stopping the game and returning to the lobby to rebalance teams. Switching teams has been a mainstay in FPS since they arrived, and it's not broke.

If lamers aren't allowed to switch teams they'll figure out another way to amuse themselves. You can't design a game that way. It's like trying to make a console that's hacker proof. There's nothing that can be done.

Just have it so you can only switch once. And then so, only if teams are uneven. Hosts should be allowed to LOCK teams in though. Sometimes teams are just unbalanced and evening it out would be nice. Give the ability to the host to lock or unlock the game.

Again I'm talking about once a match is already started. Like in "Unreal the Awakening". Has anyone played that game and understands exactly what I'm talking about.

Have you played Halo PC? lol Just wondering..

What happens when the teams start out even, and then two or three gamers from the red team decide to go to bed, or quit, or just drop out for the hell of it? Now the game is 8 vs. 5.

Do bots come into play? Or do we just ..what? ..Wait for the rest of the red team to quit? I'm open for suggestions.

i think the appropriate term is called "auto team balancing"

its where the computer switches the team a few players are on to balance the teams.

end of argument, and...

/end transmission

What if it's a ladder match? Auto balancing is fine with me.. But many gamers would just drop out as soon as they are thrown on team they don't want to be a part of.

You make a really good point. One way or another people would still be able to quit the game if they weren't happy with the teams. Thus making it difficult to keep a long game going. To answer your question, no I haven't played Halo PC. So I'm unfamiliar with how that works. The only experience I have with switching players during game play is with Unreal (and it wasn't good). Maybe one solution would be to have as many cool friends as possible online. Then only invite friends to your game you know won't abuse the system. Other than that I don't have a suggestion. I just hope Bungie has some....and I'm pretty sure they will.

It would be retarded if you couldnt change teams in the server! Take Counter-Strike (Xbox) for example. You can change teams, but it costs you a death, and you have to wait until the next match to play. And if someone switches over because they are killing his team, KICK HIM!!!!!

And anyway, its the ALPHA test...

Perhaps the host can lock and unlock team switching at will.

It is a horrible idea, because then people on the losing team switch sides to win. Listen, I stay stick with what you got and don't switch back! Besides, switching teams is stupid!

Acutally, I think that what they were talking about was switching sides (defense and offense) in single flag CTF. Just like in the E3 demo, after 3 minutes you stop trying to get the flag and you try to guard the flag. If that's not what they meant, then that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Seriously, people would just be switching from one team to the other whenever they start losing. I hate people like that. They quit or compain just because they suck at a game and they're on the losing team.

Or they could simply "quit" when they start losing. Take your pick. What if you went half way and allowed the larger team the option to team switch. Once teams were even, they'd be locked, and tk'ers (the obvious ones) would be kicked.

I'm hoping gamers will be able to join up in a game mid-game, just like Halo. If not, the games would all end up being very small.. And no one, I repeat no one, likes to wait in the lobby for 15+ minutes just to play a quick game.

you can join in the middle of a game.... It was said in an update...

It is abused on C-S, but it doesnt matter, because the only real stats that are being recorded is your kill per game ratio.... (it does have a matches won and lost thing, but that doesnt determine your place on the scoreboard)

Yeah, if the host has the option to allow tyeam switching, maybe the host will start stacking the teams unfairly, anyone who complains, gets kicked...

That wouldnt be good

Hey Twelve thanks, finally someone came up with an idea that might actually work. That's the best idea I've seen so far.
