I remember in the trailer for Halo 2 a shot of the MC looking over earth (perhaps from a lunar base or a space ship but that’s not what I am talking about) and watching numerous nuclear weapons being detonated. Were they just eye candy or will nukes become part of the game play or a mission? I know that it might be a little bit crazy to use a conventional nuclear bomb when you are near by it. On the other more destructive hand, I know that the there has been development at one point for smaller nuclear weapons to be used on the battlefield such as nuclear artillery that could be launched from miles away and have a reduced blast radius. Obviously the radiation would affect the soldiers nearby but Halo 2 takes place half a millennia away there should be some considerable advancement in treatment of radiation. Does anyone think it would just be cool to wipe out a large group of covies or would you rather give a more personal touch to combat?

Maybe there will be a mission were you set up nuke or something like in the books.
Oh yeah I think Chiefs suit is nuclear and radiation proof so If the blast and heat dont kill him he will be fine.

In the books they talk about 'clean bombs' or ones that do not cause radiation but massive explosions.

I'm not sure why I should replay the trailer if my sound was on. Can you explain Vice? I hear that part where some guy said ".....damn apocalypse here" yet, Im still not sure what you meant.

I know that the nukes were from the covenant invading fleet but I just wanted to see what people think about the possibility of nukes in the game. I think it would become a very hard thing to balance the game if you had such a destructive force. On the other hand it would add a more complete picture to Halo 2 in terms of a complete army that would use something like nukes in a desperate situation.

The covenant use plasma bombs and turrets though so I dont know why the explosion is firery. Unless it was like buildings abd stuff going up but there would be a hint of blue at leat.

There probably won't be nuclear weapons, but weapons of mass destruction that have no radiation and just cause a huge detonation radius.

Nukes in Halo are I think Fusion Bombs, basically a nuclear bomb without all the uranium and plutonium needed to trigger the explosion, which eliminates all near all of the radiation.

In Fall of Reach. It states that the Nuclear reactors of ships immite high lvls of radiation. The MC's suit is radiation proof only to a certain degree. And who ever said about it being Nuclear proof, lemme drop a Nuke on you in MP and see if you live.

I think bungie said or was rumored about haveing a mine bomb where its detonated with a trigger and you can throw them on people or vehicles. And it will stick to them. Then whenever you want press the button and BOOM!!

About the nukes, in FoR, they talk about the TAC nukes delivering a very very clean 30 megaton hit with practically no radiation (im amazed nobody thinks of this stuff...).

onloanfromgod I could smack you.

But onto the topic. The Covenant use their plasma weapons to glass a planet. It takes a while, but they wipe out everything when they do it. Not a square inch is spared on the surface. No nukes, just the God-damned apocalypse Covenant ship plasma weapons style.

Plasma = A fundamental state of matter that consists of highly energetic charged particles. It can only be contained in a magnetic field or another type of energy container. Plasma can be created from superheated gas.

HOT!

Plasma + Earths' Surface = Fire

No. The UNSC are constantly using nuclear weapons in space battles, along with the MAC Cannons that are equipped onto space cruisers, frigates, and destroyers. The MAC Cannons just fire a massive, dense projectile at an amazing speed, much like a huge bullet. Larger orbital MAC Cannons were surrounding the space around Reach and Earth. Shiva nuclear warheads are usually found on the UNSC Longsword fighters. While neither really aren't much to even the odds against the Covenent when it comes to space battles, it's the only thing the UNSC have.

We are trying to save Earth not destroy, nukes would rarely be used. We'd use every available resource before we set them off. And even then we'd not set them off all at once and right under wher a bunch of cruisers are attacking. It'd be a waste of nukes.

In First Strike, when the Covenant begin bombarding Reach with plasma cannons from orbit, what Fred describes sound very much like a nuclear blast. As a side note, although the explosions shown in the announcment trailer appear to be nuclear blasts, you don't need a nuke to have a mushroom cloud. All you need is a really big explosion. Daisy Cutters, the second most powerful non-nuclear weapon used by the US (the MOAB is the most powerful, but impractical for combat use) creates a mushroom cloud, so a giant plasma ball should have no problem creating the same effect.
