The Flood

by Robert Frost

Blood has been harder to dam back than water.
Just when we think we have it impounded safe
Behind new barrier walls (and let it chafe!),
It breaks away in some new kind of slaughter.
We choose to say it is let loose by the devil;
But power of blood itself releases blood.
It goes by might of being such a flood
Held high at so unnatural a level.
It will have outlet, brave and not so brave.
weapons of war and implements of peace
Are but the points at which it finds release.
And now it is once more the tidal wave
That when it has swept by leaves summits stained.
Oh, blood will out. It cannot be contained.

sounds like the flood to me. that's either Bungie's inspiration for the flood or the biggest coincidence since some guy made the website www.mikerowesoft.com

I found the poem at this sight:(sorry if I don't link this right)

maybe they just called the species, "the flood" because the infectino forms flow over the surfaces on their tiny tendrils like a wave?

Makes much more sense to me :)

LOL, YOU'RE ALL SAYING THE SAME THING JUST IN A DIFFERENT CONTEXT.

"THE FLOOD" ARE CALLED THE FLOOD BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM AND THEY "WASH" OVER YOU LIKE A TIDLE WAVE....YOU KNOW?

You're all right stop competing...lmao

I was thinking that the name "The Flood" came from the story of Noah and the Ark, in the Bible, the Flood was used to purge the Earth of all sinners who did not listen to God's commands, so maybe The Flood are the same, they were used to purge the galaxy of someone or something....

"The Flood"

Natural floods, i.e. water can be stoped to ways: naturally, or by an act of God.

The Forrunner are obviously God(s) to the Covenant and The Forrunner are the only ones with the ability to stop "The Flood"...as for a natural end, what happens when The Flood finnally consume all? Do they turn to canibalism? Is this how they are stoped naturally?

I agree with the Biblical explanation. Basically all of Halo has Biblical references. It makes sense that the flood are used to purge the galaxy of all life froms like the flood in the Bible was used to purge the Earth of evildoers.

I'll put down my decision when I hear back from Jason Jones.

Yeah right.

Anyways, both the Frost poem and the Biblical explanation sound plausible to me.

I guess we'll just have to wait for Halo 2 for a little more explanation on them.

How is talking about the obvious biblical references "A discussion of religious beliefs"?

I'm sorry, but nobody can deny the existence of the Bible. They may not believe the contents therein, but they can not deny its existence.

Therefore, I see it perfectly acceptable to discuss the biblical references in Halo, as long as it doesn't diverge into a discussion about which religions are best, etc.

Back on topic:

I, too, have always assumed that it was called "The Flood" because of the similarities to Noah's Ark. Actually, I find this interpretation to make the most sense, although it certainly could have been coincidence, albeit a highly unlikely one.

Fussy? This is about HALO weather it finds biblical references or not. Religion shouldnt be implemented. I agree. But if there is no way to avoid it then i guess thats the way it gost to be.

Everybody who does not agree that Halo was created with at least partial religious implications is either stupid or to blind to see. There are dozens of referneces that match almost exactly Halo gameplay with Biblical information. Read the bible then tell me im wrong!

Also, for those who did not know, the number "7" is not only an obsession of Bungie's... the Bible calls 7 the "Perfect Number". And of course, I think we will ALSO all agree that the Bible came before Bungie.

The infectious forms come at you like a flood when there are a lot of them. Floods are irritating and so are the flood.
