i think it will be a great map, but i know chill out and it wasn't exactly forge-friendly. im hoping the other maps in the next pack will be giant robot inhabitable.

Fond memories of chill out back in the lan days, soon to be Cold Storage. So in this next map pack we'll have CS, Smuggler, Purple Reign...? How about a 4th map for the same price, that would be a nice change of pace. And what happened to the humpdays, did you guys get sick of playing your own game or too busy or what?

I'm not at all satisfied with the BR update.

The BR is still inconsistent and frustrating to use. Knowing why doesn't stop it from being inconsistent and frustrating to use. In fact, knowing it's random by design makes it worse because now I can blame nothing but the game when I get unfairly out-BR'd.

Why can't the starting weapon be used as an all-around tool at all ranges, while all other weapons do their specific jobs better compared to that one base weapon? This inherently balances the game and gives each and every weapon a unique and distinct purpose.

Even if H3 has too many weapons to the point where some weapons are clones of each other (it's like that anyway, so it wouldn't create a new problem), it still creates an environment where you spawn with something that feels powerful, reliable and fun to use without taking away from the effectiveness of all the other weapons. You can still appeal to the casual base that way without frustrating the fans and veteran players.

In my strong, yet modest and thought out opinion, Halo 3's weapon sandbox design is flawed.

Oh, if a Bungie rep. mod, dev, or whatever is reading this, I have a question:

The textures of Cold Storage look as if they will make it impossible to predict grenade bounces around corners, etc. Can someone confirm for me please that the collision boxes for the walls are flat, and only the visual textures vary so much? Thanks.

I miss Frankie (as "-blam!-" as that may sound, lol). And this map looks nice visually, but doesn't look like too much fun, and don't tell me: "don't judge until you've tried it!". As I was right about all the other maps by merely looking at the pictures. Lets hope that the so called "artists" don't have their merry little way with the Midship remake (if there is one).

Great Update! Thank you for explaining the BR, it alleviated some of my anger. I just hope that when you release the next maps, you'll create a maptype for Cold Storage that doesn't involve the BR at all, so it can be played like it was in Halo:CE. Otherwise, it just won't be quite the same. I know most people will probably veto it because they love the BR, but I'll keep my finger from the blue button...

Hitzel, the mindset you mentioned in your second paragraph is the number one reason why I find Halo 3 to be so aggravating.

Anyway, when I think about the idea you mentioned in the second half of your post I would have to say that both Halo 1 and Halo 2 follow that idea, Halo 1 with the pistol and Halo 2 with the BR. And it's an awesome idea.

I wonder what the forge pallet will have in Cold Storage. Maybe instead of wire spools there are giant test tubes with stuff in them. Possibly some placeable flood objects? I do think this might be the first, tight spaced, fully indoor map for halo 3 so i'm unsure how "forgeable" it will be.

***Just noticed something! if you look in the 2nd picture of Cold Storage at the right side, you will see a window that seems to show the blue pillars that are inside the bases in avalanche. Could we have 2 maps that are somewhat connected environmentally. It would make sense as Avalanche takes place on a frozen forerunner instillation and the new maps name is Cold Storage which seems to take place in a cold forerunner instillation. Any ideas people?

People complain regularly about the BR and some even have suggestions to improve it. Of course game developers are the only people with proper merit to discuss what effect BR changes would have on the game.

I think the BR discussion cosely resembles the melee one. A percentage of the community felt like the melee needed polish and Bungie tweaked them.

Thank you for posting the detailed mechanics of the BR. I have been wanting to get my hands on those details for a while now. I don't quite know what to think though. I feel like the margin of error is kind of large but... you guys did make it that for a reason. There are a million other things I could say but they wouldn't be thought out. All I can say is that I wish I could hold a conversation directly with a Bungie employee just to throw some ideas around.

If only everyone had a T3 internet connection, then some of these networking issues wouldn't be such problems.

it is no longer a mid-to-long range killing machine. It is an anti-long range weapon with a focus on mid-range combat that ends up being utilitarian and functional, but not optimal at close range

Thats the best thing in there what a joke why the hell would you want that. making the Br worse isnt going to bring more people it is gonna make less people come. in 4 years of halo 2 there was about 60,000 online. In about 1 year when gow 2 comes out there will be 60,000 kids on halo 3.

Imagine a game of basketball during which every time you shoot the ball the hoop moves one inch in a random direction. Would that change the outcome of a 1v1 between you and Kobe Bryant, no. Would it change the outcome between Kobe versus himself (an equal match-up), yes, it would randomize the outcome.

Now, I dont want to rant on how Bungie should change Halo 3 and make it a viable competitive title, I know it cannot be changed and will not be changed. I just want to shed light on the sad reality that video games (along with much of society) are being dumbed down in favor of casual play with no outlet for someone who enjoys true competition.

P.S. Luke you didnt censor Dan91's post in any way. What he posted was ridiculous (ly funny) in its own way, yet crucifying it here was just cruel.
