Whilst reading a report from www.halolibrary.com i came across an interesting fact.

The ODST's or Orbital Drop Shock Troops are apparently the best Marine corps that the UNSC has to fight the covenant with, except the MC obviously, and i was wondering, did the MC ever have to go through that training or would he had had even more advanced training to go straight to the level of a SPARTAN II?

Also, are the ODST's a minor version of the MC and if so, would they have regenerative shields and extreme strengh (Due to Bio-engineering), i mean the UNSC would have to make sure that if the fall of Reach did happen, then at least they wouldn't be stuck with crappy Marines to defend Earth with. Would They??.............

You find out what kind of training the Master Chief has to go through in the first Halo book, the Fall of Reach.

As for the Helljumpers: No, they aren't mini-Spartans.

Thanks for that, i haven't read any of the Halo books, i cant seem to find them!

Is there any reason why they can't be mini-spartans though??

no because the Spartans had to get tons of surgical enhancements to be what they are. The ODSTs are just specialy trained humans with special armor (they cant ware MJOLNIR armor because it extreme speed shatters regular humans bones).

i doubt they would have had time to train as a spartan..they were too busy with learning how to use those drop pods.

It's a long story so I'll try to be as concise as possible. ODSTs are just normal humans, elite versions of the marines, so to speak. They have extra armor, extra training, they're hardened veterans, etc. Spartans were selected at 6 for the genetic traits which made them suitable for enhancements.. which make them much stronger/faster.. and as a result able to use the MJOLNIR armor, as the guy previously said.. is 'too fast' for a normal human to use - simply put it translates your thought impulses into movement, making the movement much faster/stronger than you would normally be able.

Erm.. did that cover it?

The Spartans started training at six. And it wasn't easy, bacause they were kids. This was the kind of -blam!- you'd see in the first episode of Band of Brothers. At 12, they recived sugical enhancements. That made their bones nearly impossible to break, their eyesight extremely good, muscles denser, and motor skills greatly improved. The MJOLNIR armor increases strength, and reflexes. Any 'normal' human using the armor would be killed. (I still get chills when I read about the part when the marine tried to move his arm, and it flew back, he broke all kinds of things in his arm.

BTW, check Borders. I've seen several Halo books there, some used, alot new.

NO THE ODST ARE JUST BAD A$$ MARIENS WHO JOINED A VOLANTARY GROUP they didnt go threw any specail training, or any thin they have no sheilds or anythin like that, the MC was put into his training along with the other 60 spartans at the age of 6 years old. so yes i would have to belive that they whent through more training than any ODST, but they spartans did not get there augmentations tell they were 14 or 15 then they didnt get there armor tell they were in there 20's.

Nefron, There are more than 60 spartans, there are a lot more. The MC is Spartan-117, think about these things before you actually write them out.
ODST are marines with better, full body armor. They know how to shoot better than a regular marine. They didn't have any implants or anything like that. Geez

There were initially 150 children chosen to be Spartans. That is how the 117 came around. Half were eliminated by a coin toss. Down to 75. After inhancements, I believe 33 remained. After First Strike there are under 10 Spartans remaining.
