Do you have a second machine that you intend to use, or are you thinking of running it on your main computer?

no u dont and it is best to have a seperate one,
if u want to use it for gaming but not for major gaming just get the crapest pc u have and put a huge harddrive on it, 160gb will be enough. 45 is ok only for ur network.

You could use a server for different things.
FTP is a good example where you can transfer files online.
It could be a game server where you set up a dedicated server.
It could be a firewall. Yeah that right. Get urself a copy of Smoothwall and you can setup an uber firewall.

Smoothwall

Radmin

(radmin means u wont need a monitor if u use this)

Now if u want to bug on linux it could be tricky. Seeing as it is an open source operating system and there are many different versions. But if u do want to put it on i suggest doing some reading as it is complex but you will learn a lot. And wont be a microsoft sucker anymore.

If you have a network with three computers in it, I would download the Halo PC Dedicated Server files and the server maps and run the dedicated server on the 'host'.

You don't HAVE to run it from the host, but it makes things simpler for me... :)
