how exactly do i CHANGE MY PASSWORD?

i will explore to find out how until someone posts how
1. Sign into Windows Live at http://home.live.com/.

2. If you are not already at the "Home" screen, then find it and click on it.

3. Look on the right side of the page for a link that says "Account." Follow that link.

4. Under the Password section, look for the link to "Change" your password and follow that link.

5. Change your password and save the settings and you're done!

Spreading smiles like they're herpes.

I had a buddy who got his account stolen (not sure how) but he said that by changing your account to a Child's Account, if someone does steal your account, they cannot change your password. He said the only way to change it is on the domain XBox that created the account. Is this true?

If the "encrypted link" does not take you to a PayPal.com site, it is likely a phishing site. You can report such sites to the United States Department of Homeland Security, who will investigate and shut down any illegal site. Here is more information on reporting illegal phishing sites.

Browsers
I recommend using a browser with a Phishing Filter (Fishing Filter) built in like IE7 or Mozilla Firefox 2 or Firefox 3. I recommend Firefox 3 as its the securest and fastest browser out there

Awesome thread Foman, thanks for putting this together.

I'd like to agree with the above quote, I would say FF3 is the way to go, also, since it's open source, you can check for add-ons to improve security, there are features like Ad-block, which block all spam within the browser window, not just pop ups. Also, a bungie member has his own bnet FF extension for easy navigation through bnet.

If it took you to PayPal, then it's not a phishing email and it's got nothing to do with XBox Live.

(I would give PayPal a call, though -- if you didn't authorize a $347 eBay transaction, sounds like you could have some problems.)

How do I check for keylogging?
There are several Spyware Detection Programs (some are free, but you have to pay for the best ones) that can find and remove spyware, adware, and keylogging programs.

Another trick you can use right away is to go into your Windows Control Panel, look at the "Add/Remove Programs" list, and look for unfamiliar programs. Then check out the programs and see what they do. Here is a list of the most popular keylogging programs. But you should also be aware that many keylogging programs have benign names or do not show up in the registry. High-quality spyware removal programs are the best method for getting rid of keyloggers.

WEST PHILADELPHIA, BORN AND RAISED. IN THE PLAYGROUND IS WHERE I SPENT MOST OF MY DAYS. CHILLIN, RELAXIN, BEING ALL COOL, AND SHOOTING SOME B-BALL OUT BY THE SCHOOL. WHEN A COUPLE OF GUYS, WHO WERE UP TO NO GOOD, STARTED MAKING TROUBLE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, I GOT IN ONE LITTLE FIGHT, AND MY MOM GOT SCARED. SHE SAID, "YOUR MOVING WITH YOUR AUNTIE AND UNCLE IN BEL-AIR."

my friend got his account hacked and he got it back, but I still know that another guy is out there and I know his GT. what do I do? also I have video proof: <link removed by moderator>

Concerning those pesky Paypal emails, if you have any business to take care of at Paypal, just go to Paypal.com and log into your account the way you normally would rather than clicking the link in your email. If there is any business there that requires your immediate attention, it will be brought to your attention when you log in. It's also always just a good practice to check your balance once in a while to make sure it is what it should be.

Alright, thanks. I don't think I need to worry about keylogging too much though, since I only go on Bungie, Yahoo, and YouTube. And I don't answer any of that spam mail.
