I have only been using these forums for a couple days and I am already tired of going page-by-page looking for specific topics that could show me what I want to know and keep me from having to make a similar post and clutter up the forum with repetitive questions and post.

What happens when the same questions are asked the same times over and over again in post? Well it seems no one even replies to these questions because they have already seen them.

Not having a search function causes many problems and makes the database of information useless to those seeking information.

Here is a quote from Ideal Science website, the creator of this forum.

"This allows the Ideal BB to serve as a massive information base. As your users post more information, there is more information online and available to your other users either through browsing the board, or through the included search feature."

Bungie.net would actually have to request that the search function be taken out of the forum or disabled. It is hard to imagine why they would do this???

I am guessing there is no search function because Bungie wanted the forum to grow fast. If the post numbers are high then it seems like there is a lot of activity here and more people come in. I cannot for the life of me think of any other reason why any forum on the Internet would not have a search function.

Bungie.net can you please tell us why there is no search function?

The bungie.net team is working on a search function for the forums, and it will be here Soon™

What you say about there being a search built into the forum software is interesting. I have no idea why that isn't implemented.

The problem is that any search feature simply wreaks havoc on the system because of how much stuff goes on and has gone on here.

I every one of these daily threads that Achronos cares to post in. It's been said, it's being worked on, be patient, it's harder than it seems because of how much goes on here. And having an attitude about it won't help.

The attitude I have conveys that importance I place on improving ‘their’ system that will make the forum a better place for all of ‘us’.

Anyone who thinks a search function is not needed does NOT come here to learn and has no idea how much repetitive, useless post can clutter up what should be a goldmine of information about Halo 2.

This forum is not just a place where people come to make senseless comment about issues they have no clue about. This forum should be a place where people can also learn and share ideas. Over time this forum builds itself in a huge database of fantastic ideas and information. What good is all of that if you cannot find the information that it holds?

“Be a little patient. I've been waiting since last April, and I've yet to complain.”

By complaining we are addressing an issue that seems to be long overdue.

It is not my objective to be rude or offend anyone. My objective is to say HEY WAKE UP this is very important and we need it so we can use this forum in much better ways.

I know the request for a search function has been requested many times. I do not want to be another one of those people who simple request something and hope it happens. I want to show everyone and especially Bungie the reason it’s needed and the importance of it.

I know more people here have looked for a search function here when they needed it and have come up short. We really need those people to make a small effort… read the whole thread and VOTE. If you choose not to read… at least VOTE.

Again I want to apologize to anyone I may have offended, seems I was misunderstood.

What do you mean by goes on and has gone on here? What stuff?

Though I am not familiar with the Ideal Science forum, I can tell you that I own a couple forums myself. I know what is required to add a search function to any forum and I know that it can be done with ease within hours. Better yet its highly likely that someone can get into the admin simply enable it/turn it on.

We all know the pros of a search function on a forum. However, that doesn't mean it is so easily implemented on bungie.net. Bungie staff has announced that a search engine is coming soon. That means there will be one available when it is ready and no sooner. No amount of complaining, asking, or reasoning will bring it about any quicker than Bungie feels is necessary.

Edit: What Recon said (I need to start typing faster, he always beats me to the post and does a better, more official job of explaining).

Yeah, well maybe if we did have a search function now, you could have looked for one of the hundreds of other posts asking/demanding/yelling at Bungie for. The hypocrisy here is kill me.

The search function would have had to be taken out from the start by request from Bungie when they first bought and installed the forum. Can you tell me why they would do this?

I don't think you know what hypocrisy means. Could you use your superior knowledge and break down the exact part that convey the hypocrisy you speak of?

Here is an example of Hypocrasy if you do not already know.

Here is something you said:

having an attitude about it won't help

Now here is your full post:

I every one of these daily threads that Achronos cares to post in. It's been said, it's being worked on, be patient, it's harder than it seems because of how much goes on here. And having an attitude about it won't help.

Now if you read it and really think about it you will see that you were telling me not to have an attitude because it wont help, while at the same time you seem to have an attitude yourself. Hmmm That is a good example of hypocrisy.

Stop trying to be condescending… it doesn’t work for you.

Regardless of whether or not one is coming or how much it would help, I can guarantee you don't need one, especially not immediately.

  • 02.20.2005 5:12 PM PDT

Firstly, Bungie are using the still-unreleased (well, beta release now, but un-released at the time of the new hotness launch) IdealBB.NET, which is completely different to IdealBB.

Secondly, search probably would be easy to implement. It probably wouldn't be too hard to reduce the load it requires. However, it would probably suck. The reason it's taking so long is because Bungie are trying to develop an EFFECTIVE search engine, rather than an average one that works sometimes but is completey useless on other occassions.

Finally, please post all your points in one post, rather than creating new ones.

If we don't need one then how would you suggest we search for information that we are looking for?

Shall I post asking for this information? This clutters up the forum and in many cases people ignore you because that same question has already been asked a dozen times. This happens because people cannot search the database.

What about my own post… shall I search page by page for it or should I just put them all in my favorites?

There is a need for a search function or Bungie would not be in the process of reinstalling a search function to this forum.

There is a need and its very clear to see. If you don’t see it its simply because you don’t want to, for what reason I do not know.

Why would it suck? It's a very basic function...

I thought the first post I made was deleted. I could not find it... this is part of the reason I think a search function is needed.

The point I made in the other post was a note that complimented the post I made at in someone else’s thread.

Other than the missing search function I like this board and planned on using it on one of my projects. I think I will email them and see if I can get this same forum.

I appreciate your reply, which provides more information than I can find on this board or anyone has posted. Thanks...

Most search engines aren't very effective - it's quite hard to actually find what you want. The b.net search engine will be more effective than most.

I wouldn't know. I was merely stating that IdealBB.NET is completely different to IdealBB and may not have all the features that IdealBB has, particularly since it's still in development.
