Well, I bought Xbox about 3 months after it came out. I kept hearing about Halo, but never played it or saw it...
My favorite game ever before Halo was Super Nintendo's "Battleclash." It was the best first person shooter on the Super Scope 6. I needed something to fill the void I've had with first person shooters since that game came out. Nothing sadisfied me. Doom, James Bond, Half-Life...they weren't very believable as far as games that try to make the graphics realistic.
When I bought Xbox (with Halo), I didn't have access to a car. I had to walk to the Best Buy in the city, buy them, and lug them back. I remember thinking, "this better be as good as it sounds."
Well, I turned it on, and I'll never forget the militaristic feeling the opening scene had. It got my blood pumping quickly, I'll never, ever forget that. Judging by the opening scene, this mother was gonna be good.
And simply put, I went through the entire first level (Pillar of Autumn) possessed, with my mouth open in complete concentration. When Chief reached the last lifeboat, I reflected on how unbelievable that gameplay was. I was laughing like I just saw a ghost pass through my body.
And here I am, typing on the Halo forum after playing Halo 2 for an hour. This game is like coke with nicotine.
