Something smells fishy...

Can someone descriptively outline how to run multiple instances of Halo one PC dedicated server? The dedicated server Readme is extremely vague and when I looked through the forums I saw many unanswered posts; people looking for layouts and outlines on how to run multiple instances. I'd really like a thorough outline or guide on how to run multiple instances of the Halo one PC dedicated server.

Thanks.

Multiple on the same server? Wouldn't they all have the same IP then?

no sorry. on the readme is says: multiple instances which means you can have many dedicated servers running on one computer at the same time. But I'm not sure how to do it. It's not on the same server and I don't know about the IP problem.

Maybe you can help?

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

-port 2304 -exec init2.txt
etc

Make a file called init.txt in your Halo Dedicated Server folder. init.txt is the default configuration file for the dedicated server. Then make another file called init2.txt (or any name you want) and create a new shortcut, then edit the target line and at the end, with spaces, type -port 2304 -exec init2.txt (or whatever you called the file). Change the port number and config file for each instance you want to run. Don't forget to add your mapcycle and sv_mapcycle_begin to each configuration file. Once you're done, you can just click on each shortcut to start the servers.

Right-click on a blank area of the folder contents and select make a new text file. Then right-click the new file and rename it.

how do you create a shortcut if it doesn't have a "create a shortcut option?" do I keep the hyphen before the word port? and there's a space after .exe?

ok I made the shortcut but now I can't do the target thing. can you please help...much appreciated by the way.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Dedicated Server\haloded.exe" -port 2304
-exec init2.txt

All on one line in the shortcut's "target" box. Also, choose a different port for each instance you want to run. haloded.exe defaults to port 2302 and gets commands from init.txt.

-port 2304 -exec init2.txt

and if you made a 3rd one you could use:

-port 2306 -exec init3.txt

but of course you would have to make init3.txt and put your sv_mapcycle_add and stuff in each one, depending on what maps etc you want the server to run.

you're making a shortcut to haloded.exe

-port<space>2304<space>-exec<space>init2.tx t

Ugh. There is no space in .txt

Forum bug putting spaces where there should not be.

Thanks a whole bunch n357! But before you told me this I pondered a while and when I re thought your earlier directions I figured it out. I am now running multiple instances. I have a server running on bloodgulch that I manipulated have no vehicles and just pistols as the primary weapon. If you still play Halo 1 for the PC then don't hesitate to join my servers. I had one before but now there are 3! thanks for your help!

p.s. The servers are called: 300spartans_DS:Pistols (2of these servers) and 300spartans_DS:Shotties.

Thanks :)
