Is there anyway for the dedicated server host to see what's going on in the game? This is running on Vista by the way. Any programs or "hacks"?

This is supposed to be a forum for discussing and getting help for Halo 1 and 2 for PC, not how to find Google.

Thats a guide for the original halo dedi server. The halo 2 one is completely different. As far as the original topic, the best way I found so far is to use the statsfolder function as I haven't figured out how to get onto my dedicated server yet. Many have suggested put the server on a second administrator account and connect using another user login.

Sorry to Hijack this but since there isn't a create topic button and since Microsoft says "server help is in bungie's forums," I figured putting this in a topic called "Halo 2 dedicated server" would be the next best thing.

I have been running a server for a while now (only 1) and all of a sudden I get the following error message.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d157/lucian78/h2servererror .jpg

I have no clue why my product key seems disabled all of a sudden. I installed the halo 2 game on the server machine to see if there were any updates that aren't on the sites but it gave me a product key error on that as well. Yet, on the machine that I usually play halo 2 from, I can logon and play no problem.

Any ideas?

Does Halo 2 the game have "network settings" as an option like in the first one??
If it does then you should try changing your network ports to something other than the defaults.

Also is there a readme for the Halo 2 dedicated server?

you should look at that too......

H2V is very picky about its ports and doesn't let you change it. Also I've read the "readme" and it's support link sent me on a wild goose chase for tech support through a few other sites until I finally came here.

Also the problem seems to be with the product key and not any ports or ips as the same product key doesn't start a server on another machine I have. I can play Halo 2 on the machine that already has it installed but when I try installing halo 2 on another machine it gives me a similar error message.

As much as I wished changing ports would solve things as in Halo 1 dedis I doubt it will.

I'd rather not go out and buy another copy of H2V, especially if they're taking a "the solution is buy another copy" approach as their "tech support." I didn't come for marketing gimmicks...

You have to buy another copy of Halo 2 in order for this to work.

With this new copy you will be able to intall it on another machine and thus have a new cd key.

sorry but they are right. Its the same with the first Halo. You cant join a dedicated server if you have the same cd key as the server.
EX: If a person creates a dedicated server for Halo on one comp. and then installs Halo on another computer using the same cd key as the deicated server and then trys to join the server to play to will say: Invalid CD Key.

Microsoft is just like that....i guess.

sorry.

The first halo had no restriction on CD keys and dedicated servers. As a matter of fact its possible to join the server even if its on the same machine simply by changing ports.

As I said in the first post, this error should be resolveable without blowing any more money on a product thats already giving me crap...

If not then I'm frankly unimpressed by the tech support and customer service.

I know that......

What i'm trying to say is this:

If a person with a computer(C1) installs Halo with let's say cd key "a" and then makes a dedicated server has it running but then one day decided to install Halo on another
computer(C2) using the same cd key: "a." If you try to join the dedicated server from C2 [Using the same CD Key-"a"] then you will get the message: Invalid CD Key.
