I have an idea some sort of system where if somone was labelled a spammer, their posts would show up to their IP or profile only, therefore they wouldn't know to make a new profile or change IP adresses, because they would think the post was actually submitted. Imagine, it would be like banning, except they would think they were still allowed on Bnet. It could be a solution to spam!

Ha! Yes! If they did that, the spammers would leave because they would be ignored!

Let's just wait and see what Achronos' new method entails.

Sounds good on paper, but there are two problems that I can see:

* One: Users IP, for the most part, change each time they connect to the internet. The exception is Cable Users, their IP stays pretty much the same. If you were going to do it by Profile, however, it entails this next problem:

* Two: If the user isn't logged in, they would realise that their posts aren't showing up, and then we'd be right back where we started.

I'm sorry, but keep brainstorming. :)

Well, people don't often go to the forums if they're not logged in, and I was thinking a mix of IP and profile.

IP address can't be used for that anyway and login works fine. This gives me a similar idea, though. When a user gets "the stigma", other users see it when they're logged in and can filter all posts by spammers. Filtering would not be used when not logged in, so it wouldn't be that easy to see whether you're a labeled spammer. Perhaps the "member" by the name would be replaced by "spammer" or something, but the spammer doesn't get any notification or warning upon being labeled and it's against forum rules to let them know they're labeled. Responding to spammers would be allowed, but it would bring the risk of being labeled as well! That alone would discourage most spamming! Filter all spammers would be on par default to help prevent new guys from accidentally letting people know they've got the stigma... "Hey, how come you have spammer under your name while everyone else has member?"

It sounds good to me, the structure is similar to an admin-controlled "Ignore" list. Hardly perfect, but it certainly might block out the dumb ones, which is almost all of them.

Right. Achronos is a genius. I am sure whatever we think of will be nothing in comparison to his almighty plan.

Bungie controls everything. You have no rights. Better get used to it - World Domination isn't far off...

Hey, I have no problem with Bungie having World Domination as long as that thing about "Buying pizza for everyone" on my Halo Soundtrack isn't a full-out lie.

If it is, then I will be heartily annoyed, let me assure you. You can take my freedom, but yes, you must give me pizza in return.

Dear Ender Illes,

Your nose is impeding the freedom of movement of my fist. Please remove it ASAP, as you are violating my fist's constitutional rights.

Sincerely,

Absurd Postulation That There Is Such A Thing As Unlimited Freedom.

I suppose it's necessary to point out that this is purely hypothetical and not intended as a threat or intimidation tactic. It's just pointing out that my freedom to do as I please will probably infringe upon someone else's freedom to do as they please... so whose freedom takes precedence?

In these forums, Bungie has given precedence to those who are actually talking about things Bungie. They're even kind (or cunning) enough to allow precedence to constructive criticism of things Bungie.

The end result is that most of us get what we want... a forum to discuss things Bungie. A few of us get disappointed that they don't get what they want... a forum to gain attention by flinging dung on the walls and hooting words they don't understand.

I like Bungie's way better.
