some of you may notice there is alot less servers on halo, and that sometimes you will red x all teh time and they crash all the time.

there is a program pubically released to crash servers by the person doing it only typing in the ip address and it sends a malformed packet to the server ..

I am basically a halo ce player which has a even smaller user base than regular halo pc as you can see here i play it more

xfire.com/profile/rook1337.

this saddens me because I have less of a hcance to get a security patch than regular halo does

Please sign this petition otherwise, we need to prove lots of people still care about halo pc and that this script kiddy -blam!-ary can be stopped.

Ok look, not trying to be the jerkwad here, but this game is DEAD! No one is going to fix the problem, because a) Bungie/Microsoft don't care about a dead game. b) Petitions just don't work. (not to mention they aren't allowed on this forum) And c) you post about a problem that's never been discussed to my knowledge and you haven't given us any proof to go by, no links, nothing. How do you know this isn't a random crash of the server, maybe it's crappy?

If you can bring some sort of proof that this is actually happening then you can bash me all you want. If you can't then take your petition and shove it.

so do you expect over 1500 players on halo to just stop...

and no its not because the server is crappy, its a program that sends malformed packets to crash the server, halo fixed this once (a crappy quick fix that only changed a couple of bits..) for 1.06 and now its been updated to crash halo 1.07 servers.

here are the details for the crash.

http://aluigi.altervista.org/adv/haloloop2-adv.txt

its not a DDoS attack btw, its just a crash program.

This isn't random.

I checked this morning, there's only about 200 servers total.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Custom Edition has more than 100 Servers?

Wouldn't say it's quite dead yet; 700-800 servers and usually about 1500-2000 players (significantly larger than the amount who play Halo 2 Vista).

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Happened to me twice last night. Two servers crashed with the lag icon. Didn't think much of it until now.

Technically I think this is still Gearbox's responsibility, but I doubt anything will be done.

TUI, this is very real just look at the amount of servers up.. and play in a popular server for a while and see how long that connection wil last you.
I am very frustrated with this regular halo pc still has quite a large userbase they should come back and fix it, while I doubt they will I fear this could be the end of halo pc 1.

[also I didn't know petitions were not allowed I found this a important cause, anything to save halo pc]

This makes me ever more frustrated because halo 1 pc is the only game I play

I haven't checked # of servers, but if this is really all true, then yes, it is probably the end of Halo PC as we know it.

Seems to be true. Maybe Bungie/Gearbox will hear us and do something.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Someone just came on our server and said "how is this still up?". 2 minutes later the server crashed. This is BS. I'm gonna call Microsoft.

I'm still not totally convinced, besides no one at Bungie, Gearbox, or Microsoft are going to fix the problem no matter how hard you cry. Try to understand that this game isn't worth the time or money to fix anymore. A surprising amount of people still play the original TFC, but you don't see Valve crawling over themselves in an effort to patch the game for every little hack or cheat some script kiddy comes up with. By the way that was just an example.

Eventually the people who use this hack are going to get bored of it and sit quietly for the next script kiddy to program something else.

io suarez (the main man) sent in a ticket this morning and here what they (GameSpy) say.
We are dealing with a new DDOS program for Halo that some kid is using. We are working to block him, for the time being I credited you 7 days to your account.

Whatever that means....

While they may not fix things, its still worth a try. We cant just sit back and do nothing, Halo PC is a game that is still played by ALOT of people and they need to know this. Petition signed, thank you.

I'm still not totally convinced

I just tried it on my local server. Froze it up completely. It also works on peer hosted games.

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

You should also be complaining to whoever hosts your server about blocking these packets at the router.

That's not a solution Static, and you know that. ;)

I hope that despite the game's lack of support that somebody sees fit to fix the problem. It'd only take one player with half a brain to implement this into a simple system that could knock every server on the master server's list down, over and over.

It's a temporary solution, I know that. But imagine the traffic you will get being the only server. :D

Well what I meant was that since it's a packet that won't look out of the ordinary to any router, it's not going to be stoppable without some complex packed inspection. ;)

1.04 normally has around 50-200 servers up, that now is 10-20 and they keep getting crashed including my server's dedicated slots.
This is utterly annoying, we know who is causing this, someone needs to stop him.
As someone else said, there is normally 2000 1.07 servers and that is now dropped to below 100 up.

Who IS causing this? Give us a name or something. Better yet, an IP address!
